GW: "We also told you that the Light of Terra was unsalvageable, but YOU, QM, said that was BS and changed it up! You did it once, you can do it again here!"
Em frowned down at the hand offered him. His eyes flicked up to the man, and then he sighed. "You sir, are a pirate. Hostis humani generis - and as the legal binding authority on this planet, it is-"
"Oh fuck you," Skar snaps. He pops up his palm and a sudden blaze of witchfire roars to life around his fingers and that's when you open fire. Bullets slam into the ground, whip up, then rip from his belly to his face. His body jerks from side to side, twitching back and forth, his head snapping to the side as a bullet rips through his cheek and leaves a bloody smear. His armored clothes puff with the impacts, blood clouding into the air and he remains standing, literally forced backwards a step, then another step as your two guns buzz happily, their machine spirits full of cheerful glee at doing their favorite thing.
Shooting bullets.
You were a mite worried that your assault stubbers didn't seem to notice the difference between firing at the range and firing at actual people. But then again, a chaos pirate captain wasn't exactly a people, was he?
The smoke rising from your barrels makes you sneeze as you lower your arms, and Ryia takes her fingers from her ears. "You think you got him?" she asked.
"Heh, I-" you say, as Dex groans softly. "WHAT!?"
The three of you jog over. By purest chance, while you've shattered one arm, dislocated another, and put enough holes through his chest to leave him all over blood, the bullets seemed to have mostly clipped meat, whined past the shoulder, and (other than the shot through the cheek) left his head mostly untouched. He was badly wounded and knocked out cold, but he was far from dying - and as you glared down at him, Em shook his head slowly.
"This is a man born to hang," he says.
Ryia snorts and then draws her sword and plunges it into the man's heart. His eyes flash open and he clutches at the blade, his teeth flashing as he glares up at you, trying to stay alive through sheer hatred. Ryia, her face set, grips onto the hilt of her sword, digging it left and right, muttering. "Just...DIE already!" she snaps, then jerks her blade back as the light, finally, goes out of his eyes.
"God Emperor!" Ryia snaps. "I hope the rest of these buggers aren't so fucking tenacious."
Em shrugs. "For most, we'll be using the longer guns." He looks up, to the heavens, where your ship orbits, and to the streaking light of their plasma wake, rippling by overhead.

"Aww, there there," you say, petting the head of the poor, much abused servo-skull that you, Em and Ryia had found in Skar's shack. The tiny thing was terrified as Phi did their work, their tentacles caressing and sliding into various dataports. "It'll be okay." You say, trying to calm the skull, while you spare a glance for Phi at their work. "Are you getting any datums?"
"Don't rush them, dear," Em says, gently.
[Oh, if he thinks you can rush me,] Phi sends to you, chiding and amused all at once, while aloud they say: "I BELIEVE THAT THIS SERVO-SKULL CONTAINS NAVIGATIONAL DATA...AND...YES!"
You can feel their excitement over your shared link. Your eyebrows shoot up.
"FOR CENTURIES, THE HOME BASE OF KARAD VALL WAS KNOWN BY NAME AS INEQUITY," Phi says. "BUT THE EXACT LOCATION IS UNKNOWN. HOWEVER, THIS SKULL CONTAINS ASTROMANTIC DATA AND SCRYING INFORAMTION - CROSS REFERENCING WITH THULIAN SCOUT RECORDS...CHECKING THE SHIP'S LOGS...PULSAR PARALLAXING..." They bob their head and a glowing hololith projects from their shoulder lumens, flaring up a map of the Expanse, hazy and glimmering in the air above their operating table. The skull relaxes, clearly pleased to not be found in need of destruction. You pet it as you watch the stars swirl around, and then frown as the star gets highlighted.
"Dioskouri?" you ask.
"I've heard of there," Ryia says from where she's perched. "It's a dead system - the sun went nova millenia ago, and her corpse is eating the whole system."
"IT IS POSSIBLE PLANETARY BODIES SURVIVED THE STERLLAR DETONATION, IF NOT THEIR ECOSYSTEMS," Phi says, dryly.
"And what better place than a solar system made of asteroid belts and hard radiation?" Em asks, pointing as the hololithic map zooms in, to show a grainy, low-fi projection of the Dioskouri system. You can see it has two suns - one yellow and...oddly distorted. The other an invisible fist of pure darkness, threaded around with a band of shimmering starstuff from her sister. Ryia chuckles softly.
"That's us," she says.
"Us before Em," you say, smirking at her.
"Heh," Ryia chuckles.
"INEQUITY APPEARS TO BE THE MOON OF THE INNERMOST GAS GIANT," Phi says. "ARRIVING AT THE SYSTEM'S EDGE WOULD REQUISITE A TRANSIT THROUGH...THAT." They gesture to the shoal, reef, and radburn markers.
"Unpleasant but doable," Em says. "What is more, the same defenses will work in our favor - they can't have that much of a fleet there, none in any concentrated groups that is." He nods. "A large flotilla would be battered to pieces or forced into small units. It's a system that favors the small squadron, rather than the large pitched action. The Admiralty would have hated it." His lips quirk up. "But for us, it promises quite an interesting...opportunity..."
Ryia arches her eyebrow. "How do you mean?"
"Why rob Karrad Vall's vault when we could put his home port to the torch?" Em asks, candidly. "We have a Dauntless and a brace of Lunars - one for stealth, the other-"
The door to the temple-shrine to the Machine God opens and one of the midshipmen sticks her head in, her eyes bright.
"Sir! Sir!" She says. "The Colossus! She's breached too!"
--- How IS the Colossus?
[ ] Fine (base statistics +3 SP for Tine's homeworld choices)
[ ] Hounded! (rebuild using a plan of your choice with SP based on how badly)
If Houned...
[ ] A brace of sloops (Base Cost + 10 SP +3 from Tine)
[ ] A wolfpack of sloops, brigs, xebecs! (Base Cost + 15 SP +3 from Tine )
[ ] A ship of the line and a double masted monitor escort (Base Cost + 20 SP +3 from Tine)
[ ] A whole bloody fleet! (Base Cost + 25 SP +3 from Tine)
If Hounded (pick one)...
[ ] Brawler (close ranged combat and sheer damage + broadsides)
[ ] Support (a carrier ship, bedecked with fighters, bombers, and areonautic)
[ ] Invader (a cargo and transport ship, carrying regiments from Damaris and drop pods alike)
[ ] Long Ranged Support (lances and...is that? Yes! It is! A bloody nova cannon! Where the hell did you buy a nova cannon!?)
[ ] Write In (If you have your own idea!)
Behind the scenes info: You will be in range to support if she's hounded, you won't just sit back and watch your bonus SP go up in smoke cause it's 2 weeks away. And the base stats on the Colossus are thus! Oh, and more behind the scenes
Sloop/brig/xebec: Raider or frigate | Ship of the line: Light cruiser or bigger. A whole bloody fleet, well, I won't put more than one battlecruiser in there.
Tine full auto bursts with both weapons: +20 for full auto, +10 for the prognostigator, +10 for close range, -20 for 2WW, for a total of +20% for a 55%!
She failed on her logis implant guidance, succeeded on her foresight, and got an additional +20! (75%)
Right Gun: 51 (2 DOS, 4 hits)
Left Gun: 7 (7 hits, 6 hits - 6 is the max)
Dexy dodges right: 72, fails to dodge!
Dexy takes, in total, 4, 4, 7, 0, 1, 9, 3, 9, 3 damage to the chest, chest, left arm, head, body, body, right arm, head, left arm, body!
So, 14, 10, 3, 3, 2, -7 (right arm), -10 (head)
He burns 1 FP to survive the -10, putting him at 0 wounds!
-3 to the left arm, then -11 to the head again!
He burns another FP to survive the -11, putting him to 0 wounds!
Then -3 to the body!
So, his right arm is completely broken, his left arm is broken, and he's got several broken limbs, and only one FP left!

EDIT: Wasn't the Colossus classed as a carrier when we were still selecting which ships to take to Damaris? I don't remember much from the Rogue Trader books to say if there actually is a carrier class in them, however...
Question on the rebuild option: This assumes the base hull is already paid for and then fill in the rest with the additional SP?
I did some napkin math and it looks like to build it as-is(minus the base hull cost) would only be like 16 SP. It's also got an empty prow weapon slot. The problems being the lack of space and power to fit extra stuff in, but given that Dragon has template options, I'm guessing they have thoughts on how to upgrade things to get that extra space and power.
Even the lightest option of a few sloops would give a lot of SP to play with comparatively for a rebuild.

It was, but since you didn't actually take it with you, it subsumed back into a kind of quantum state of undefined shippiness, and since it's a bigger deal now, I figure you guys get a chance to vote again!

Oh, no, the rebuild would involve the base hull being spent for. So, you're right, I will redo the maths on those choices to make it clearer what it is you're actually working with!

Yeah i was just coming to ask similar questions myself, when my attempt to get any context for what the numbers actually meant ran into "wait this thing i found on google says it costs 60 SP just to *have* a lunar-class cruiser hull..."

"This is precisely why you don't burn a Fate Point and then stay in combat"
As it so happens, it doesn't matter how good your plot armor is when you're face to face with three PCs who have The Drop and are very determined to see you dead. Farewell terrible plot device! You 'shant be missed!
Anyway, that aside, what--uh--exactly are we voting for here? "Baseline Colossus + Mods"? What's that 'Hounded' stuff even mean?
because my brain isn't braining good right now.
Also, we going to get a chance for Acquisitions before going into the Adventure proper?
It means the Colossus is being chased by bad guys! So, you have to win a space battle - but in exchange for the extra danger, you get to customize it AND get bonus ship points to do so.
Those new numbers definitely make more sense. Also my back of napkin math forgot to improve the crew to crack, so if that's included in the price it'd be around 21 SP to rebuild that ship to the state it is in now. Or 60(base)+21(improvements)=81.
Though it's been a while since I've built a RT ship, so my math may be wrong somewhere.

I think we've got a good lanceboat, we've got a good Tactical Fuckery boat, let's get a Carrier. We're rich enough to afford it now.
And a Dictator refit is pretty much the best possible ship for a Rogue Trader beneath some of the better Battlecruisers.
(Unrelated note, it causes me something akin to physical harm to gaze at the Repulsive because it's just such a fucking gorgeous ship on top of probably being the best voidship statted in RT but why is it just randomly cursed? I know you can mitigate it by splurging on the Warpsbane Hull but it still pisses me off!)
Argh, all my impulses are nudging me towards the Nova Cannon or launch bays, but my rational mind insists that we need a frontliner that isn't a Light Cruiser or specced into stealth.
So, assuming @Talkos did their math right, the main bonus for anything other than the full fleet fight is the chance to customize the ships role, even if point wise it might end up 'weaker' than the base config? ...And i guess also the chance to loot the ships that attack
Hm...torn on that one, cause the base setup looks pretty nice as a generalist (i think?) ship, and the full fleet fight seems risky...

That's what i meant with 'customize the ships role', yeah
I think at least for an initial vote i'm thinking "refit with about the same ship points as the default, with a fight im confident we can win and maybe even capture or loot from that ship of the line?", and i'm torn between brawler and support so leaving that as an approval vote for now...

This is a ship that hangs back and sends fighters and powerful shells to blow stuff up on it's behalf, and then fixes the fighters and bombers.
But the most important thing is a Nova cannon. Because those things are amazing. Also DC didn't put any restrictions on Archaeotech. :P

To be honest the math doesn't really work well for us doing this refit....but I really want to have Dragon write some naval action scenes! lol
Also of note, I'm rereading the attack craft section, and if designed as a full battlestar carrier like @samdamandias has suggested. "for every point of Strength in a launch bay, the bay can hold three squadrons total." Each Lathe pattern has 2 points of strength. Which means it could deploy a whopping 24 squadrons on the board. Though it would only be able to ready and launch 8 per turn(can ready and launch a number equal to the bay strength of the ship). Now the rules on bombers and attack runs make my head hurt at this hour, but suffice to say, once you get a certain critical mass of bombers going, things get.....silly; because each one adds to the chance to hit, and higher chance to hit in RT means more likely you will hit and get degrees of success, and the more degrees of success you get, the more damage you apply.
