Remnants of a Void: Reincarnation (RWBY/Kirby)

[X] (Pick 2. The order in which they are listed matters.)

-[2] Yang

[X] Coral is probably partnered with <First person from the above choice> while Melinda is partnered with <Second person>.
-[X] Coral's happy expression shifts to concern when she notices Weiss. (The second half of your team will be Coral's partnership)

Since the grimm's attack is composed of half as many rocks as its previous volleys, they are consequently much more spread out, giving you a much easier time as you weave out of the way. Sparing a glance at Weiss, you notice that she has both Dust vials suspended in the air, held in place by one of her glyphs which is aimed directly at the grimm's main body. A second, smaller glyph is positioned behind the main one, though you're not sure what it's for...

With a flick of her wrist, the main glyph rapidly shifts and launches both vials towards the grimm at a high velocity. Moments later, the second glyph launches a projectile made of ice to follow them. By the time the grimm takes notice, it's far too late to block with its frozen arm, and you watch as the ice shot slams into both vials the moment they impact the grimm's "head".
Hm, I was right in Weiss had to do something a little finicky. Not only did she have to launch the Dust Vials with a gravitic launching effect, but she then had to fire a second stage projectile to detonate both vials at the exact moment. Relying purely on impact for detonating what's supposed to be pretty close to bullets is probably not very reliable.
What follows is a rapid release of ice that all but smothers the top half of the grimm, which briefly glows orange as the Burn dust rapidly reacts with it. The result is a large explosion of steam as the ice violently sublimates under the burst of intense heat, which covers the middle of the clearing in a thick mist. The pieces of the grimm's arm that were in the process of returning to it suddenly fall out of the air mid-flight and tumble to the ground, causing you to jump when one ends up landing right next to you.

You keep watching as the mist begins to clear. Surely that killed it, right? You glance over at Weiss, and notice that she's also staring at where the grimm stood, seemingly trying to confirm it's demise as well.

Turning your attention back to the mist, you notice the grimm's body collapsed into a heap of boulders, and you find yourself releasing a breath you didn't know you were holding. Thank goodness that's over...

And then one of the larger rocks begins shaking...
And that's a double-thanks that the two elements had a positive interaction that worked out for us. Ever heard the advice that you shouldn't directly reheat a frostbitten limb? This is part of why why. Rapid cooling and reheating taxes the makeup of just about anything, much less biological substances.

We probably shouldn't use that sort of thing on people unless its a last resort, Weiss makes a poor therapist.
The grimm spectre hisses at the two of you, before flying towards the trees at the edge of the clearing. You honestly can't tell if it's retreating or if it's trying to find something else to weaponize, but you're not going to let it. You're ending this now!

Switching one half Gemini back to handcannon mode, you take aim with your familiars and fire.

[65]

The grimm makes an attempt to swerve away, but it's ultimately unsuccessful. The combination of a bullet and several blasts of dark lightning lancing through its back is enough to knock the fleeing spectre out of the air. With a defiant shriek, the grimm crashes to the ground and begins to fade away into a cloud of black smoke.

Letting out another breath, you return your weapon back to its default state and sheathe it, dispelling your familiars as well.

"Phew... Glad that's over..."
Nice shooting Annie Oakley. Hell, even if that thing had gotten away, it'd take quite a long time for it to build a new body as strong as the old one. But letting a Grimm live to learn and fight another day is rarely a recipe for success, so good on getting good habits started early.

Now maybe I'm forgetting something, but we've now got Yang with the discount!Raven Branwen. And Ruby may still be teamed up with Yang. Hoo-Boy. Those two, and whoever Ruby partners with, are going to have their work cut out for them. Jaune's team is going to be the sane bunch, I can already tell. As for us, keeping Weiss and Blake from breaking up is going to take alot of work from Coral and Miss Minion. The biggest problem to acting as an intermediary is going to be getting Blake to respect us, and not see us as just kowtowing to the Schnees.
What is coral abilities again?
She's like Mermaid!Gwar Gura mixed with Undyne. :V

Weiss will get a heart attack once she founds out what her team composition is.
I believe actually that the older version of this quest also had the team consisting of Coral Weiss and Blake as well. Granted the whole reveal from Blake wasn't really reached.

Though when the Vytal tournamet comes around it'll be interesting. I wonder how Weiss will interact with Neon Katt even if its just mention of who her partner is?

//The remaining partnerships were decided by RNG, and somehow they ended up exactly the same as the last iteration of this quest. Whelp, I suppose that means I don't have to come up with new team names.
--------------------------------------------

"Hi, Coral!" you wave as you approach.

"Hey!" she smiles, before adopting a concerned look as her eyes flick between you and Weiss, "So... uh... is that your partner...?"

"I mean, do you see anybody else traveling with her?" Weiss frowns.

"R-Right, sorry!" Coral quickly apologizes, before turning her attention back to you, "...So how was the trip?"

"Well, we ran into some beowolves and creeps and had an annoying encounter with some kind of ghost grimm, but for the most part it was... fine?" you answer.

"Oh, I see. It was just some ursas for us, and then we found this clearing not long ago. Yang and Melly were already here, though."

"I thought I told you to stop calling me that!" Melinda warns, before giving you a quick glance, "...Hello, by the way."

"Hey." you greet, "So... Yang's your partner, then? ...How's that working out?"

"She's somewhat annoying, but is otherwise a good fighter. She's... tolerable."

"Aw! See, Melly, I knew you'd start to warm up to me eventually!" Yang smirks.

"Ugh, not you too..." Melinda twitches, before shooting Coral a glare, "Dammit, Coral, look what you started!"

The pinkette in question merely shrinks back under her gaze with a sheepish smile.

You stifle a giggle, before glancing at Weiss, "...S-So uh... Now that we're here... D-Do you want to grab the relic, or...?"

Your partner stands in consideration for a moment, "You may grab it, if you want."

"...Are you sure?" you blink, before wilting under Weiss's subsequent look, "O-Okay then."

You make your way into the ruins. The first thing you notice is a bunch of pillars arranged along the edge of the circular platform. On top of these pillars are what appear to be oversized chess pieces, with each different kind of piece appearing twice for each color. Several pieces, you note, have already been taken: Most notably both of the black bishops and, one of the white bishops, and one of the white knights. After a moment of consideration, you walk over to the remaining white bishop and swipe it from the pedestal.

As you make your way back to the others, a sudden effeminate scream echoing through the air halts you in your tracks.

"Some girl is in trouble!" Yang exclaims, "Did anyone else hear that?"

"We're standing right next to you." Melinda replies, "What do you think?"

"Should we help them?" Coral questions, "Blake, what do you think? ...Blake?"

Glancing over at the girl in question, you notice that her attention seems to be directed at the sky. As you slowly glance up, you see why.

The first thing you see is the silhouette of a rather large Nevermore. Below that is a steadily growing red and black dot that you quickly realize is actually Ruby, following her is another growing dot that appears to be a girl with a massive hammer.

"HEADS UUUUUUUUUP!" Ruby calls out as the two the group at terminal velocity.

As this happens the same girly scream from before suddenly increases in volume before Jaune suddenly flies across the clearing and somehow manages to intercept Ruby mid-fall, carrying both of them into a large tree.

"...Was that Jaune?" Coral questions.

"Did your sister just fall out of the sky?" Blake turns to Yang.

Yang opens her mouth, "I-"

"YEEEEHAAAAAAAW!" the second girl shouts as she enters the clearing, swinging down her hammer and causing a large explosion on impact with the ground that arrests her momentum, allowing her to land a few feet from the resulting small crater, "Woo! Let's do that again!" she pumps her fist before looking around in confusion, "...Ruby?"

"I'm over here..." The girl in question dizzily calls from the tree, "...I'll be there in a second..."

"Okay!" the orange haired one nods, before glancing in your general direction, "Ooh!"

She suddenly dashes past all of you, making a direct beeline for the relics.

Ruby makes her way over a moment later, cheerily waving at Yang, "Hey, sis!"

"Hey!" Yang replies, "Who's your friend?"

"Oh, that's just Nora." she answers as the girl in question dances back towards the group while holding one of the white rooks over her head and chanting "I'm queen of the castle!" repeatedly.

"...Did you two just ride in on a Nevermore?" Blake questions.

"Well," Ruby shifts a bit, "it's a bit of a funny story, you see--"

"So has anybody here seen Ren?" Nora suddenly butts in, prompting a stare from everyone, "Yes? No?"

"Who's-" Yang is about to question, before being cut off by a loud screech.

Looking in the direction of the commotion, you spot Pyrrha racing into view with a Deathstalker hot on her heels. She narrowly dodges a swipe from its claws as it chases her before she notices something on the other side of the clearing.

"Jaune!" she calls out, looking a bit relieved.

"Pyrrha!" he replies from the tree.

"Did she just run all the way here with a Deathstalker on her tail?" Blake blinks.

"I don't know. Are you going to keep assuming that the rest of us don't have eyes?" Melinda frowns.

The sound of gunfire draws everyone's attention to another part of the clearing, where two figures are emerging form the treeline: A young man dressed in green followed by a bespectacled guy with silver hair and an outfit reminiscent of a lab coat. Both of them are aiming their weapons -- a pair of bladed pistol-like guns and something that looks like a flintlock pistol, respectively -- towards the air behind them. A shrill screeching noise followed by a large winged grimm with four legs emerging from over the treetops soon reveals why.

"REN!" Nora happily shouts, prompting the guy in green to glance forward.

"Nora!" he exclaims.

"Nora?" the guy in glasses questions his partner.

"Ooooh, so that's the Ren you keep talking about!" says Ruby

"So then who's the other guy?" Coral tilts her head.

"Is that a Griffon?" Blake asks.

"THAT'S IT, I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!" Yang shouts, grabbing everyone's attention as her eyes flare red, "Can everyone just chill out for TWO SECONDS before something crazy happens again?!"

Exactly two seconds of silence pass before Yang calms down, allowing the two guys being pursued by the griffon to catch up with the rest of you.

"...Alright. Are we good?"

"I-" Ruby responds, before another girly scream interrupts her. Glancing over, you notice both Jaune and Pyrrha sailing through the air and landing in a heap in front of everyone else.

"Ow...." Jaune groans.

"Great! The gang's all here!" Yang speaks up as the deathstalker begins advancing on all of you, "Now we can all die together!"

"Not if I can help it!" Ruby deploys her weapon, before charging at the grimm with a loud battle cry.

"Ruby, wait!"

The deathstalker knock Ruby back as they trade blows, "D-Don't worry! I'm totally fine!" she calls out, before shooting it in the face and starting to retreat back to everyone else.

Yang begins running towards her sister as she does this, only for the nevermore to circle back with a loud caw. In an instant it swings its massive wings forward, ejecting a cluster of feathers that race towards the sisters. Thankfully, the attack doesn't hit either of them, but it stalls them enough for the griffon to start swooping down towards them with its talons outstretched...

Oh dear. Even if we suppose they're totally a match for these things—which I don't—let's not leave them in a 2-vs-3. Seize the initiative!

Time for a classic divide and conquer strategy! Let's rally as many fighters as we can to take out one target, to thin out the opposing force. The best target to get first is probably the deathstalker, I think. It's got the most dangerous single attack, and it's ground-based so everyone can reach it.

We can rally the troops to take out the deathstalker, while the fliers stay distracted by whoever has the best… aerial… mobility. Oh.

Oh no.

Welp, big hero time. No way this can backfire!

I read some of the last pages on the RNG stuff.

I largely agree that its mostly fine as is. QM mentioned saving modifiers for traits we gain along the way, but I feel like we should have one or two to start with? I think we picked up a persuasion one near the start, but with all our minions I would think we'd have an advantage on distracting, splitting attention, taunting enemies, etc.? (It also feels weird not having advantages/modifiers from our semblence, changing/growing over time as our semblence/we do)

Its also pretty hard to tell when something's the fault of RNG fucking us over complete vs because its a bad plan.

... Speaking of, did we break or sprain our ankle on that Nat 1? If so, did it heal yet? Either way Violet being a bundle of nerves probably makes her great Grimm bait right now anyway.

Honestly, I think having at least 1 or 2 traits to start to prevent the cluster fuck that was the geist fight would be nice but honestly, I just chalked it as Void Termina being nearly completely inactive. Also, considering our start, I think everyone wants Violet to grow into a badass, which I feel would be awesome character development. While I also know that Violet's wing thing is going to be kept secret, we should still practice fighting airborne so we can have extra options later.

Honestly, we have to fight them again later so might as well.
Edit: Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to X my vote lmao. I do that sometimes ;-;

So Melinda is still surrounded by Yang and Coral. Tai is going to be laughing his ass off once he gets the first call to home. And maybe worried...

Your partner stands in consideration for a moment, "You may grab it, if you want."

"...Are you sure?" you blink, before wilting under Weiss's subsequent look, "O-Okay then."
And the dynamic for how Weiss gives orders, and how she expects Violet to interpret her remarks, is already being set. If she gives her permission, that's exactly what she means. She doesn't want Violet to come back and 'pester' a concrete answer out of her.
"YEEEEHAAAAAAAW!" the second girl shouts as she enters the clearing, swinging down her hammer and causing a large explosion on impact with the ground that arrests her momentum, allowing her to land a few feet from the resulting small crater, "Woo! Oh god, I forgot Nora and Ruby were partners, kiss the dorms goodbye.

Note how at least three of the options are to do nothing. Or at least to cede initiative to someone else. Weiss is already establishing a clear and consistant pattern of telling us what to do, and that's something Violet is going along with for fear of reprisal to her relatives. We're already setting up habits that... well, certainly buck the trend of how Quest protagonists act.

Given we are dealing with flyers I would say Ice Dust but probably better to leave that to Weiss.
