Really I think its this or preemptively shot him and I don't what us to be that kind of person. I'm pretty sure that either of the other actions will make him lash out.
Also this seems slightly too easy? Like, this guy claims to be an experianced operator but he's folded like wet cardboard and he completely failed to act like his supposed cover story told him to. Now he might just be an incompetant braggart but he could also be trying to feed us an easily baught line to hide something deeper.
It's true, he could having a mental breakdown and/or be attempting suicide by cop, in which case we might take a table to the face (though stick n shock rounds seem a much more reliable non-lethal weapon than tasers). The interrogation is saved in our cyber-eyes, and possibly already backed up on a company server, so hitting us with a table doesn't help him die to conceal something inadvertently revealed. So if he wants to die, and he's making a rational choice, it could be because he wants the story he's provided so far to be the last thing on record, wants to prevent any further interrogation, and is willing to die to make that happen. That seems unlikely, but if it's true he's hiding something he considers really important. More likely we just wait for him to calm down a bit, and he either clams up or cooperates and tries to keep himself out of prison by giving up something juicier than himself.
We're a competent hand to hand combatant, so I think waiting until he actually starts lifting the table to make a defensive move is reasonable.
"You're right. I-- I know them okay. One of them is the daughter of a guy I used to run with back in the day. That's how they cracked my identity." He takes a deep breath. "I have a terrible reputation in the shadows." He takes a deep breath. "I've betrayed every team I worked with. That's why they didn't let me steal the data myself. They didn't trust me."
This seems strange, though. Betraying your team isn't something you can do more than twice before you either catch a bullet or nobody willing to work with you. So why does he have someone who he 'used to run with' making it sound as a regular thing.
You step back from the table and almost trip over your chair as he grabs it, and with extreme strength slams it forward into where you would have been. You roll over, grabbing for the baton at your belt. <<Security alert.>>
<<Jammed Jammed Jammed.>>
You feel your stomach drop out as. The table is lifted away and tossed across the room as Masuda advances on you. "Help!" You shout. "Guard!" You roll clear and swing the baton at Masuda's head. He doesn't even raise his arm, but rather just lets it land. You gasp, your whole arm jarring like you struck a rock. He grabs you, lifting you up by the neck and smashes you into the wall.
"The truth is." He says, smiling too wide, his face twitching as his eyes now black voids, lacking iris or pupil. "I was never a traitor. They wouldn't have used me if I had that reputation. They'd have been too worried I'd rat them out to you for immunity. They did hire me to get the thing. They only sent the girl in when they realized I was double-dipping. They just didn't quite know what I was double-dipping with. Who arranged my identity."
The door bursts open and the guard steps in, her SMG is already raised and she doesn't hesitate. The gun vibrates in her grip, and wounds erupt across his body as the bullets chew into him. The Masuda thing turns, snarling, and throws you at her. The guard dodges aside and you find yourself sailing down the corridor. You hit hard, on your side and you feel your arm snap. Pain explodes through your body and you scream.
No time for pain now. You steel yourself and fight through it, sending desperate commands to the hackware built into your commlink <<Security alert. Load Counter jamming sequence.>>
The lights flicker and then go down. The guard's SMG switches to panic automatic, then dies away and you hear her scream loudly. The Masuda thing steps out of the room, blood all over him. You begin to crawl backwards, grabbing for your pistol with your other hand. Masuda laughs stalking towards you. "I'm going to eat you, virgin." His human form is foaming off him in spools of shadow.
Masuda charges, then crashes into a heavy transparent security door that slams down in his way. His arms grow blades of shadow and he punches them through the armor glass then yanks, shattering it, just as the lead High Threat Agents run around the corner. There's two of them, both humans identical enough to be twins, wearing the red and white robe of Shinto shrine maidens, which looks kind of incongruous with a plate carrier and tactical vest over it and a red and white security caps. Both have short-barrelled carbines slung, but not in their hands, in their hands are the tools to cast magic.
The spirit charges into the shouts of hasty prayers. There's the flicker of a field of something you can almost but not quite perceive and you see something horrible, something you never wished to see blown backward out of Masuda's form. He gasps, topples over as whatever it was is sucked away, still screaming, into the ether.
You slump back as the rest of the HTRT, more conventional guards in powered security armor storm around the corner.
You hadn't known they were making awakened clones before.
"Medic!" One of the shrine maidens is at your side. "He's hurt."
Now seems like a good time to pass out.
You wake up in a hospital bed, your broken arm immobilized by a pressure splint, with Mr. Ichibangase sitting next to you talking into a commlink. "Yes sir, everything is secure now. We seem to have stumbled on something bigger than a simple data steal. Yes sir, it does appear to be like the Seattle Case, but we shouldn't talk about that, even on a secured comm, but I given what was taken don't think it can be a coincidence one of them was in the archive. Yes. The young man's expected to-- ah, he's awake. I'll call you back." He closes the phone and looks down at you. "I'll call a nurse."
"W-what." Your throat is dry but you have to ask. "What was that thing?"
"A spirit," Ichibangase says. "Something you don't need to be concerned about at your paygrade."
"It seemed pretty concerned with me."
He blinks at this level of sass from a subordinate, then laughs and looks down at you. "You did well. You kept your head and called for backup. I'm proud of you, but there are some details I need to know."
"Alright." You say. "What happened to Masuda though? Is he dead?"
"I'm afraid so." Ichibangase "He died some time ago." He touches your good arm gently. "Don't worry about that now, just, tell me about the Case."
[ ] Bonus: Write in, What happened in the case in full.
Ichibangase listens patiently. "Well, you've had a busy night. Why don't you get some rest? In fact, take a day or two off."
[ ] Nod and lean back and try to sleep
[ ] Tell him you feel fine couldn't possibly leave the rest of the office with your work

General Information:
The archive is electronically sealed from the outside.
Testimony of the homeless man
Female elf runner in ninja style gear made entrance through the fire escape sometime after 8 PM. She forced the homeless man to free then made an easy entry to the fire escape as if it was unlocked for her.
Police Theory:
A runner entered through the fire escape. She was attempting to steal a file from the archive. An Information security technician, Masuda Shinji, stumbled onto her while she was doing it. She tried to kill him but he called the guards. Both of the initial two guards were killed, but they managed to pin the runner down in the server room. The other four guards managed to pin her down in the server room, then the rest of the runner team smashed in through the front of the building in the van, defeated the security drones in the entrance and then killed the guard team.
Masuda's Testimony as reported by the police:
He stumbled on a runner while checking a security alert, then ran and called the guards. She killed the two guards by ambushing them, and the rest of the guard detail assembled to try to trap her in the server room before being killed by the rest of the runners. He was hiding in an office nearby and watched the firefight.
Masuda's confession:
Masuda states that he let the runner team into the building after being blackmailed to reveal the fact he'd once been a criminal decker.
He met them at a bar called Earth Angel
He only met a cutout, but knew them. One of them is a daughter of an old running mate of his.
He testifies they're called the Shades.
He called the guards on them after they wouldn't cough up additional money
While possessed he claimed that the true reason that they used someone else was that they learned he'd sold out to another corporation.
Runner team:
Masuda testifies they're called the Shades
1 elf? Adept
2 Oni heavily armored fighters
3 Humans or elves including one mage
Possess high-level hacking skills
Possess a powerful mage
Decker Skills information:
Building could not be breached electronically from the outside.
The building was breached via a device attached to the servers. This would require detailed knowledge of the buildings computer system.
Times:
Guards Time of Death: 8:21 x2 8:35 x4
Building Fire Escape unlock 8:12
[X] Ask about the creature again
In order to form a solid understanding of what happened here, we need a better model of what this creature is, so we can make an informed guess as to what the relationship between it and the runners was. So many of its motivations are now almost unknowable to us until we know what it actually was, and the reason it called the cops hinge on its motivations.
It has been suggested to me that I should add what's you get for summarizing the case successfully. If you do it, you gain +3 to intellectual, or +1 to all attributes (physical, social, mental)
