Well I can make several compelling reasons why a state alchemist would stop using alchemy after a war of genocide.

one of them being... well... collective guiltfor his unit.

Well I wouldn't want to either. But since we're entering a time of peace for Amesteris, and we're potentially a Vet of said conflict... well we can have some scaring.

Oh yeah I can defitinitly see a state alchemist stop using alchemy after what they were exposed to. What I'm wondering is how the state will handle us not using the skills for which they pay us and give us privileges. I'm guessing after some time they just revoke our license.

Well considering that a state alchemist also conducts research into that field of study for military applications along with domestic usage for the state, they could possibly get away with it as long as they continue reaserch on their field.

mans possibly be forced to take on an apprentice who would... replace him.

it would be an interesting power play, with a young person as an apprentice who may be working for...

Him, and passing on stuff as well.
