We will be provided with a modicum of common sense to measure up to all the other factions.
If we were to ask for resources or protection, there'll be problems based on visibility from other factions. We don't know the value of their protection, nor the resources they are going to give us. They have the upper hand in knowing the value or are limited in the value of the things they will be offering. We don't fully understand until we gain Knowledge of what we will be given. if given resources, we aren't sure what will work, and will be semi dependent on them to supply it if it does work. A protection detail will gain more visibility due to more attention being given to protect us. I'd rather we know more than slowly bumble ourselves away at the (possible) mercy of our companions here.
