Bleh, I considered that this might have been bait, but the fact that Chiyome was basically already made tipped it into "worth a shot" territory

Anyway

[] Activate her Noble Phantasm and strike Lancer mid-swing.

Assassin was in pain. Her wound wouldn't close properly and she was within killing distance of Lancer's scythe. Dodging out of the way was supposed to be her first priority and living was second. But an acid-like sensation burned at the pit of her ruptured stomach.

This was a foolish mistake.

Should she return without doing anything would render it all for naught. She had failed as an Assassin and she would disappoint her Lord. Tasting blood in her mouth she will not let this shame pass!

Lancer struck but the Servant felt her movements slow down. Assassin looked up to meet her petrifying gaze and moved.

"What?" Lancer hissed as she tried activating her mystic eyes.

A black mass hindered her sight, the vision of black scales returned back to her.

"This curse will be my curse. This curse will your curse. This sin will be both ours! Kuchiyose - Ibuki Daimyoujin Engi!( Summon- Omen of the Great God of Ibuki!) " Assassin roared as black snakes arose and struck Lancer sinking their fangs on flesh and pushing her back.

More spectral serpents arose, their black scales gleaming in the moonlight as they struck Lancer one after the other, her scythe useless against their assault. They wrapped around her and bound her arms and prevented her escape.

Assassin drew her blade to finish her off.

BLAM

The door to the bedroom opened and Matou Sakura stepped out.

"Hollow!" She cried out as spears of shimmering light fired from behind her.

Assassin evaded the shots as Lancer fought off the curses.

"Sakura!" Lancer yelled and the Master nodded.

"By the power of this Command Seal, Lancer, break free!" Sakura ordered as she held her flower patterned Command Seals in the air.

The curse ravaged Lancer's body but she managed to break free of its hold temporarily. She was slowed by the pain and the drain of the serpents as she moved to kill Assassin.

Assassin was ready this time and slid beneath Lancer's strike. Kicking off the ground, Assassin let out a out a puff of air before twisting her body as she descended.

Kunai flew down and tested the barrier the Matou erected before herself as Lancer realized what the other Servant was doing.

"Stop!" Lancer roars as she turned to swing her chain. Chiyome stomped the ground and bent her back, letting the chain miss her and throw an explosive bomb near the Master.

BOOM

The Matou flew across the room as dust and smoke filled the air, only for Lancer to cut through it and reveal Assassin running away with her wounds. Lancer moved to chase but her own Master had been caught in the blast.

"Assassin..." She growled as she moved to retrieve her Master.

Snakes bit back when cornered. Lancer coughed out blood as she fell down her knees. She should know this better than anyone else and it frustrated her.

.....
....
...

You were Hans Derrinsmith, disgraced Magus and worried Master.

Chiyome was late.

You expected her to be done in a couple of hours but this was too much even for her. You couldn't help but be concerned. Maybe you should have gone with her to make sure she was all right.

She wasn't a built warrior like Ferdiad was and that only worried you more. Maybe it's just that you got this weakness for girls endangering themselves that you're like this.

You rubbed your forehead as you leaned over your study. She wasn't responding to your hails either. Only the insistent itching of your command seals told you that something was wrong.

And then finally, you heard her.

You turned and stood up to find Assassin standing before you. She was a mess and bloodied up, her wound on her side being the most pressing.

"I have returned, my Lord," Assassin said as she fell forward.

You moved to catch her, supporting her body with your arm.

"Shit," you cursed as you held her steady, "What the hell happened, it was just a scouting mission. Did they find instantly? I should have been more careful. Chiyome, get to the bed and lie down."

"I'm sorry," Assassin murmured as a tear slid down her cheek while she crawled on your bed. She was bleeding, you could feel her magical energy leaking out.

"Don't be," you said as you knelt by your chest to retrieve some first aid Mystic Codes, "I'll make you better. Seems like whatever hit you won't let you heal."

"Master?" Assassin murmured as she looked at you.

"It's curse based. Which is good, I should be able to reweave it's properties and reverse it. But it'll take a few days. Whatever hit you has to be particularly nasty," you said as you took out gemstones and wrote runes on to the paper on your thigh.

You crushed the stone over the rune and let it shine. You then placed it over her wound and hoped that it would alleviate the pain she was experiencing.

Assassin simply gasped in pain as the wound seemed to reject the healing process.

"That's... Not good," you murmured as you got up, "Fine, fine then. The old fashioned way."

You wiped the blood off your hands on your shirt and grabbed your phone. You went through the messaging app and contacted one of your employees. You needed someone with a background for dressing up wounds and from a medical background of the mundane side.

Once the message was sent, all you could do was try and stop the bleeding and-

"My Lord..?" Assassin breathed as she laid on your bed.

"You'll be fine. I shouldn't have let you gone alone. I could have pulled you out there sooner," you told her with a grim look as you sat before her.

"Forgive me. I... Failed you. But I did what I could. I hurt Lancer's Master as well as cursing her in my escape," Assassin explained as she met your gaze.

You looked down on her and spoke, "Did you get them?"

"No. But they're hurting now," Assassin said as she closed her eyes.

"I see. We'll finish them off once you're better or we find the Grail. Which ever comes first. For now, rest and focus on healing," you told her in a calm tone.

Assassin looked your way once more as tears filled her eyes, "Are you... Not angered, My Lord?"

"No. You did what you could. I've had my own shortcomings as well," you told her as you recalled the previous war.

Old habits died hard... This girl wasn't Ferdiad. You had to revise your strategy on how you worked with her.

She wasn't invincible.

Perhaps you were getting complacent. Scathach would have kicked your ass had she been around. It's fortunate that she was beating up that Cheese instead.

Assassin had her eyes closed you watched over her. She had a hand holding on to your left sleeve.

Ah well, that went as well as could be expected, I'm a little disappointed that lancer is still up but what can you do.
At least assassin isn't dead.
Hopefully they don't hold too much of that against us, in our defence Lancer did backstab and corner us first.

Chiyo was just but overall not a bad outcome, sakura is hurt so is lancer and for a extra made them waste a command seal.

Can't say I'm upset this.

Eh, people can be irrational. "I betrayed you but you didn't die" is definitely something I could see someone getting angry over.
Fortunately it looks more like Medusa is blaming herself but I can definitely see her going "How dare you have the temeraty not to lay down and die."

It's a pretty bad outcome.
You say it's a bad outcome but honestly think about it

Assassin revealed herself to lancer and was nearly killed due to being taken off guard.

Out of multiple bad outcomes, such as assassin dying, assassin being permanently crippled.

Yet assassin got away, injured lancer quite a bit and Sakura has been hurt. Sure assassin was just but Hans seems to think it's something that can be fixed.

[X] Wait for your Employees, hold Assassin's hand in the meantime.

I dunno, we did make Sakura use a command seal. I don't consider that to be any small thing.

How is this not a bad outcome? Chiyome failed in her recon, blew her cover, took a heavy blow that puts her out of commission for a few days and, much more importantly, puts us on Sakura's and Medusa's shitlist because Sakura took a hit and spent a command seal. Worse still, Sakura's not alone, because Luvia is with her.

That basically means we've already burned bridges with two actually reasonable Masters that we could've negotiated with, but instead we blew it because people don't read and got baited by Lancer because of course Lancer would ally with the Assassin servant that, in her eyes, was caught sneaking into their domain and may or may not have targeted Sakura. Forcing Sakura to spend a Command Seal isn't worth this mess.

Why are you assuming that we could have negotiated with Sakura and Luvia? Like... Hans does not have a great history with them and their loved ones.

You played in the Cheese quest, so you should be able to recall how Hans was in the prequel to this quest.

Hans has, and can be amiable to other Masters and has been shown to negotiate and be fair in his dealings. Even at the final showdown, he dueled Brie honorably took his loss gentlemanly and gracefully bowed out. Basically, Hans is not someone who immediately pulls the trigger on someone if he can help it.

I think people are just formulating things badly, this is a bad outcome, but far from the worst possible, we got off lightly from this Situation we were in, it's a good outcome considering the circumstances. The lesser evil if you will.

besides if anything i'd say we've got the moral high ground so to say, if anything lancer burned the bridge, not us, and thus it's still possible it can be rebuilt depending on how sakura reacts to that situation, lancer was acting out on her own with the betrayal after all. Wouldn't count on the bridge being rebuilt though, more likely they just see this as an unfortunate situation with another enemy to face.

Well this was bad, but it could have been worse. It's likely Team Sakura will have to be careful for at least a couple of days, and it looks like Hans can do something about Harpe's curse. Moreover, since the fight was Lancer's fault, this doesn't 100% rule out future negotiation (though it certainly makes it a lot harder).

I mean, yeah we revealed Chiyome's NP, but that's information that Sakura is unlikely to share with others (unless she teams up with them, in which case it becomes a maybe); the way to solve that problem is to kill her sooner rather than later, or make an alliance with her.

So the situation has happened, it's time to play with the dice we were given and make the best out of it.

I knew sentimentality toward Sakura was stupid. Even if she is hurt Luvia is more than battle ready and without a servant we are sitting ducks. We should make sure to move now, Luvia's magecraft is based areound transference of energy, she must be able to track us down.

Ok, I need to point this out because I see this kind of self-justification fairly often in quests like this and it needs to be addressed.

This entire encounter was our fault. Not Sakura, not Medusa, not Hans. It is our fault.

Yes, Medusa lied to us, but Chiyome is literally intruding onto her domain for ambiguous reasons and for all Medusa knew the Assassin could be targeting Sakura herself. Keep in mind that Hans specifically ordered Chiyome to investigate Sakura/Luvia and only that. Chiyome should not have revealed herself because she didn't receive any directive on any alliance-making and without input from Hans. Instead, we run counter to his orders, fell for the avoidable bait (Medusa is calling for an alliance and not Sakura is a big hint) and everything fell apart. Medusa didn't cause Chiyome to reveal herself.

We did.

Blaming Medusa isn't going to change the fact that we deliberately chose to reveal Chiyome. It's not going to change the fact that we deliberately chose to NP Medusa and catching Sakura in the crossfire. It's, ultimately, not going to change the fact that this entire encounter was our fault.

In Rabbit's quests, our actions can, and often will have significant tangible consequences in the future, and a single mistake could make our lives very inconvenient if we don't spot the hints he laid out in his updates. We need to stop blaming the opposing party for our own mistakes and understand the gravity of our votes, or else we're going to pay visits to B.B. really soon.

Honestly, we wouldn't be having this discussion if we had just killed Sakura or retreated. A aliance was unlikely since she already had Luvia, then there is the fact we have assassin. Any master familiar with servants know how prone master are to suffer a sunden case of death with that master around. This sentimentality already cost Rans a arm in the last war, time to get your head on the game and fight to win this. That mean Luvia is a high priority target, next time we see them engage with other master or distracted we go for the kill. Everyone has a little sister they want to protect but grail wars is where they go to die. Ran's family should have been declared heretic in the last war for endangering the secret of magecraft but thanks to that wish their tracks are covered so they are free to act with inpunity. Rans will die if we don't play this by ear and count with the good will of fan favorites
