"Like you said Hernandez, it's too late for you. The girl's not included in the contract so I'll leave her out of it."
Hernandez gave you a small nod of thanks, gave Gabriela one last kiss and hung his head.
"Do you have any last words?" You ask, cocking your gun.
"I just want 30 minutes." He mutters.
"Eh?"
"30 minutes in heaven." Hernandez chuckles. "Before the devil finds out I'm dead."
You snicker to yourself before pulling the trigger and killing Omar Hernandez. The bullet lodges itself in between his eyebrows and his head slumps back.
You then approach Gabriela and grab her by the neck, pulling her up to your face.
"We were never fucking here." You hiss. "If the police, Omar's security, or anyone else questions you, you tell them you were using the bathroom and you heard a gunshot. Do you understand me?"
"Y-y-yes." She answers, trembling sporadically.
"Good." You say, releasing her from your grip. "I did you a favor today sweetheart. If I find out that you ratted on us, you're gonna wish that I killed you with Omar."
Gabriela didn't do anything but continue to sob uncontrollably.
You took that as your cue to get the fuck out of the room. Lena already stuffed the gun into her purse and the two of you ran out to the fire escape as fast as you could. Fortunately for you, nobody was in the back lot so you cut across the street and took the long way back to your car. Getting inside the car you noticed Hernandez's security guards sprinting inside the front of the building.
A little too late for that...
"I can't believe you just turned down an amazing deal like that!" Lena yells as she closes the door. "What the fuck! We could have doubled our money! For absolutely nothing!"
"Do you know what else we could have done you fucking idiot?" You snap as you start the car. "We could have had Corleoni's men out looking for us for double-crossing him. Or we could have trouble finding jobs for the next year because we fucked our reputation. Why can't you ever look at the bigger picture Lena?"
You let out a frustrated sigh as you drove off. Lena was a clever and beautiful girl with tons of potential in the business, but too often she let herself get blinded by money and materialistic things.
"And what was that shit back there with letting the girl live? When did you turn into the Salvation Army?"
"Will you shut up and let me drive in peace?"
The two of you argued the whole way to Corleoni's warehouse.
~~~~~~~~~~
Corleoni's base of operations was an empty warehouse he had bought out on the outskirts of the city. Most of his drug and weapon shipments would be brought overseas and transported through the loading docks under the name of whatever fake company Corleoni used to launder his money. As you pulled up to the back of the warehouse there were 4 men standing by the gate, all of them armed with submachine guns. The one closest to you walked up to the car and signaled you for to roll down your window.
"Don Corleoni has been waiting for you, the two of you come with me."
You were led into a private office in the back of the warehouse where the man himself was waiting for you.
Don Corleoni looked like your stereotypical Italian mob boss. Slightly overweight, slicked back black hair, and a permanent scowl etched into his face. He was seated at his desk enjoying a bowl of soup. He didn't say anything to either of you, he just pointed at the television screen across the room.
Hello, I'm Amy Rosen on Channel 11 and we have breaking news. The newly elected mayor of the city, Omar Hernandez has just been found dead in a Marriott Hotel. Gabriela Jimenez who was sharing a room with Hernandez, says she was freshening up in the bathroom when she heard a gunshot go off. For more on th-
"Hah!" Don Corleoni laughs as he switches off the television. "What a bunch of outstanding professionals! You guys completed the job in record time!"
"I'm glad we've met your expectations." You dryly respond.
"What a devastating way for Mrs. Hernandez to find out about her husband's infidelity though." He grumbles as he shovels down another spoonful of soup.
"Like you said before, we completed our job. So I would like to request our payment."
"Always straight to the point with you isn't it?" Corleoni laughs before snapping his fingers. One of his goons runs in the back and grabs a briefcase, flicking it open in front of you and Lena.
"All $240,000, accounted for." The mook says as he closes the briefcase and hands it to you.
You pass the briefcase off to Lena who is more than happy to hold it.
+$120,000 added to funds. Current Funds: $315,000.
"You two should be ecstatic." Corleoni says. "You're headed to the big leagues now. After word spreads in the street of the Corleoni Family hiring the Handypeople or whatever you call it, your stock is gonna go through the roof!"
Handymen Notoriety Level +10 = Notoriety Level 70
(Notoriety level is basically your street cred' among criminals. Higher notoriety generates more fear among potential enemies and respect among potential allies. Notoriety also allows you to negotiate higher payment for contracts with your employers.)
"I'm glad this worked out for the both of us." You bow before leaving.
You never really cared much for Corleoni. He was a cocky piece of shit who enjoyed watching his enemies suffer, but he was a powerful cocky piece of shit. You always did your best to be polite to him even if he got on your nerves. For whatever reason he's taken a liking to you specifically and there was worse things in the world than being favored by a mob boss.
Who knows? He might even save your life one day.
