Fear Cuts Deeper Than Swords: A Song of Ice and Fire/D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder Quest

Smite oh mighty smiter! Also, we should probably look at getting the family heraldry changed when we can. A paladin walking around under a banner of a flayed man is going to send mixed signals.

Honestly, I was expecting Domeric to be a bard.

Oh yeah, that was my initial thought for Domeric, the thing is, 1) I dislike playing bards, and 2) I was planning to have him fight undead all along and even with the Pathfinder variant classes, I couldn't figure out a good way to make him strong against the undead, which was my main concern. If Domeric is chosen (which seems to be likely), I will give him two free ranks in Perform (String Instrument) to reflect his interest in the harp.

As for the heraldy and family's dark reputation, well... remember that Domeric has spent seven years outside of the Dreadfort according to canon; four years as a page to Lady Barbrey Dustin, and three years as a squire to the Valeman lord Horton Redfort. It's almost certain that he didn't quite grasp the Bolton reputation at an earlier age, and it's only now, so soon after he got home, that he's coming to grips with it. Which... will have repercussions with his relationship with his father, who while a psychopath, is subtle about it.

You know, Domeric the 3.PF Paladin works really well, if we are doing the opposite of ASWAH and going with PF with bits of 3.5.

Because the 3.5 Pally is only good if you mine the juicy ACFs, and if we could instead pick between them and the decent PF base abilities, that'd be sweet.

But I said Domeric in specific works well for that for a reason: From Smite to Song.

Studious, tremendously good rider, good musician, found brothers in the Redfort kids. Perfect Harmonious Knight Paladin material.

We could do something like:
[] Domeric Bolton
-[] Ghost Hunter Paladin 1
--[] Harmonious Knight
--[] Ride, Perform, Knowledge Nobility, Diplo & Sense Motive (2 base - and we really could use 4 base skill points here, or start lv 2- + 1 Humam + 1 INT mod (if we can't swing higher, we unfortunately need 3 stats high already) + 1 favored class)
--[] Two of Magic Knack/Unsanctioned Knowlede/Unscathed/Magical Lineage
--[] Couple flaws
--[] From Smite to Song, Mounted Combat, Ride-By-Attack, Spirited Charge

Pick up Power Attack at 3rd, Battle Blessing at 5th, Awesome Smite at 7th (especially to get back the DR bypass we lost to Ghost Hunter). Add in Knowledge Religion instead of Nobility as we level, because Undead are our thing yo.

@edit: Doesn't really need Harmonious Knight, as long as he can just pick up Smite to Song.

Oh yeah, I should add that I am perfectly happy for readers to determine the character sheet for whichever character is chosen, and for them to choose what happens when the character levels up. All the choices start at level 1.

We going to roll for stats? Point buy?

Would we be getting anything from our background? Some skill points in Perform and/or Knowledge Nobility, for example?

32-point point buy with all stats starting at 8 before buying; I want the beginning characters to be on the upper end of the power scale.

Also, 2 free points in Perform (String Instrument), Knowledge (Nobility), and Ride each if it's Domeric, as Domeric is noted to be good at all of those things. If another character is chosen, I will show the skills they get free points in as well.

I'm not quite sure on the difference (I've played 3.5 fairly extensively, but Pathfinder is less familiar; I am relying on the SRD for that), but I would assume 3.5.
32 in 3.5 is the equivalent of 25 in PF, or at least for the statline I think of going for. Both are the "up there" point buys or their respective systems. PF starts from 10s and has slightly different costs.

We can just about scrap by a decent PF Paladin with PF Human's +2 stat mod.

Alright, that makes sense. 3.5 point buy, but with a PF class and race bonuses.

People, if you want a superb "Sorcerer in ASOIAF" quest, the link is on the first post :V

I'll grant you that quest is probably superb, but not my style. I don't like Viserys and don't particularly want to see him as the protagonist of a quest, thanks. Either the voters play true to his character or they whitewash him to the point that he may as well have been an original character. Neither are palatable to me.

'Sides, the North gets all the buzz. I want to see Dorne for once. The Bolton plotline strikes me as super edgy, anyway.

The quest starts when Viserys is 13. By the current timeline 4 years later Viserys is vastly different from his canon character, but I like to think I handled the transition in a sensible and believable way.

I wouldn't call Viserys an original character in ASWAH, just a very different version of himself, one who had very different formative experiences following the death of Willem Darry.

Magic, it's a hell of a drug...

There is no Northwanking in ASWAH, either, and Dorne gets a lot more love. Oberyn makes appearances every so often, and we've lost track of how many potential half-human children he might have fathered in recent years.

He is played faithfully: he is still immensely arrogant, he thinks he knows best, his ambition is absurd.

The difference is that he can back it up, has a phenomenal sense of duty (which is well IC due to him seeing his kingdom and subjects as part of his hoard), and generally isn't an asshole.

The quest starts just as Canon Viserys likely started to become what he was by the book start. One of the pivotal moments was certainly the death of William Darry.

We fortunately manage to avoid a lot of the bad, due to instead of being robbed and thrown into the streets, we became a first level sorcerer and stopped the servants from fucking with us.

Starks are getting their LP-ship forfeited as the North is Balkanized.

Quick real Ooc question. You keeping the whole broken heaven thing for this one? Or is it going to be pure undead apocalypse plaguing the planes. I'm not expecting an answer if itd be spoilers. Just curious if we are gonna play as a Paladin focused on putting people to rest. Because well....

[X] Allyria Dayne, the Lady of Stars

Clearly the least objection able choice here. Not the most powerful one (that would be Druid, duh) but the one with the best starting point.

I wish Maege Mormont could have been a Shifter Druid, going into the very appropriate Moonspeaker or Weretouched Master PrCs. Ah well... Those are 3.5 classes and not Pathfinder, anyway.

Question: Why vote for Paladin Domeric?
Answer: So you can Smite Ramsay's smug smile off his treacherous face, and his head from his shoulders.

Surely I don't need to say more?
