Shield Hero, but hopefully Heroic

Hrrm.
So thoughts: That we're level 8 might be something we could try and wield to draw people, if need be. Flipside is...Our protag is a spikey ball of ANGRY that probably won't be easy to hang with so calmer temperments I think is a must. Unlike the other heroes, Shield-hero is the tank, and thus we'll want people who can do DPS well, instead of being the backup-singers to our lead guitar, so to speak. So even if the other three go with their canon companions (Questionable!) I suspect we'll have a more...Interesting group dynamic build up over time.
I don't think we can rely on Spear's friendships-he might see us as a damsel in distress now but if my read on him as a person is right he'll be turned off right quick. He'll help us get started and hopefully prevent us from going pure 'lone wolf' though, and I suspect those choices were kind of intentionally set-up to pair us with at least ONE of the four starters instead of letting us do the Naofumi and have to have the Queen step in and intervene to prevent us from long-term farting off to who-knows where later on. IDK entirely what's up with mister head-case but Ren I think could be a solid ally amongst the four. Spear is good for now but should turn-off given the actual personality to go with the tragic backstory.
I don't think Malty shenanigans will happen anywhere approaching the same angle. If anything?...Given the prescence of our addictions and malnutrition issues, I half-expect Malty to actually be semi-friendly, if I'm right about her ultimate motivations RE: get the strongest heroes possible. Might be wrong-I'm not familiar with the entire story.

While the dirt poor estabilishiment does have it's advantags like recruiting that rare lucky guy, would prefer to start with professionals, get to know our bases, and go from there.

Torn between this option and the Professional place.
Bar just seems like a good way to get fodder that then gets mauled due to being useless.
Professional I'm worried that 'Shield hero' bias will be a problem, plus yanno, it'll all be on Spear to get us actual companions which means we'll basically have to shout down the white-knight procession we might get stuck in for well-meaning reasons. (the problem is even after the bias there's the 'little girl must protect!' which not only would not be useful for us learning the system but ALSO is dumb from the perspective of our class.)
This...Will admittedly bring up the Demi-human Religious shenanigans which bears it's own problems, but the flipside/nice thing is the mitigating factor of Spear who can counter-balance that instead of say, getting us wrapped up in a knight-procession, and hopefully we'll find enough recruits to get an actual party instead of snubbed...

Shield
The main perk to being the Shield Hero is the stupid amount of versatility it gives. Shove anything into it in the manga and a new shield is unlocked.

Unfortunately that doesn't really reflect well in a quest so we're gonna have to alter it, with Shield Types and dividing the powers into categories. This will stop useless bloat from unused trash shields cluttering up the quest.

As for actually using the Shields? The MC will use their discretion in battle, but you will decide whether to use Offensive, Defensive, Magic, or hell even a Utility Type in battle and of course I wouldn't use something like the Cursed Type without a vote.

Offensive Type, this type adds bonuses to your offense in battle.
-Squishy's Venomous Bite It transforms your shield into a deadly weapon. A spider attached to your arm with it's 'face' an inch from your fist to allow it to bite people you punch. It releases a deadly venom which you've observed to paralyze.

Defense Type, this type adds bonuses to your defense in battle.
-Small Shield +1 MGT to Defensive Action

Magic Type, this type adds bonuses to your ability to cast magic.

Utility Type, this type is for the utility shields, bonuses towards crafting, medical aid, whatever.
-Balloon Shield. Just stores Balloon corpses.
-Direwolf Shield. Also stores corpses of its type.
-Squishy's Spider Sense. Allows you to sense the world like a spider would?
-Burn Cream Shield. Relieves a small amount of pain from burns, and slightly heals burns faster.
-Lice Removal Shield. Instantly creates a toxin in your hair that kills lice.
-Headache Relief Shield. Helps with headaches... Really.
-Pain Relief Shield. This one is unhelpful because it actually injects the medicine right into your body! Meaning, using it for prolong periods of time will make you OD or get high.
-Disease Resistance Shield A genuinely good shield that helps you resist diseases and speeds up your immune system against them.

Cursed Type, Ỵ̜̱̠͇̫̗o̸̬̞̰͔̭̲̝u̯̼ ͉̤̩͔͉fe̻͎̙̯͇͘e҉͍̰̣͔l͈̼̕ͅ ͏̲s̨̰̠̤͖͓o̺̤̠m̟̦e͈̬̜͕͚̭̥͢t͇͖̥͓͚h̗̘͖̲͠í̯̱͖̦͚̯n̪̬̪̙̦g ̢̰̥͖͚ͅḅ̟͎̠̖u̶r͈̬̝͙̗͡n͓̙̗͎͝i̙̟̪͓̬͟n̹̰̬̯g̢͖͈̩̟

A professional looking building may seem like a good option. But it is such an obvious choice that I'm 99% sure they are pressed by king to not give any help to Shield Hero.
We are with Motoyasu so i am not sure going alone or recruiting money-hungry people in dirty pub is good options. Hm. Let's try with common folk for now.

That makes sense to me.

this reminds me what is the system for EXP? Do we have to have the last strike or just being in combat gives EXP?

We can always just exploit gravity and toss powerful monsters over cliffs so they fall to their death and we gain EXP.

Or maybe poisons or traps can be effective?

I'm not sure if even martial arts is disabled but we can always just pin someone down and choke the out with our bare hands even if we cant physically damage them.

Also we should totally pick up some balloon monsters as minions.

If Malty wants to harass us, she'll do it from a different angle than what she did to Naomi. Maybe involving stealing

Anyways, so...for party members....I'll think about it more later. I don't know how our appearance may affect recruitment.

Also good to know what we'll be expecting from our Shield powers. I like the show, but the amount of versatility Naofumi had was ridiculous compared to the other heroes who are just full of offensive power-ups yet they couldn't keep up.

We're obviously gonna be a tank so we'd obviously want someone more dps in our party (like how Raphtalia is to Naofumi). I'm also hoping, powering up our Cursed series aside, for an emotional support for Yukihime (which may remind her that she had a kid she was taking care of back home). I'd like a Counter build for us though.

The Balloon trick, while feasible in theory, strikes me as a terrible idea given MC's angry enough to BEGIN with the Wrath Shield if I understand her backstory, it seems too easy for her to start throwing them at people who neither deserve it nor can deal with it.

EXP is being handled mostly as something the MC has to deal with, but as we see in the manga and the anime levels don't really matter over skill aside from unlocking new types of Shields.

Luckily for you guys, you have a decent MGT skill so martial arts DO in fact work still, you just cannot wield a weapon. I'm pretty sure that killing something indirectly still nets you the exp because of the Poison shields in the manga, and Naofumi sets up a rope trap a few times.

The reason it took Naofumi more than a few seconds to kill monsters with his hands was reach problems, and the fact that Naofumi was a drop out NEET who read anime for a living suddenly thrust into combat. Your hands will work just fine until you get to actually threatening monsters.

If you were going for a pure martial arts build to keep up with the monsters a strategy would be going, magic to self buff yourself so you actually can punch effectively things that would usually not be bothered by punches. The Shield is very versatile.

But again we know this OOC due to knowing the source material that this is possible.

I added this just because.

Changed my vote a bit cause it seems interesting and useful, also just because I like it.

You clamp down on the urge to settle things without words, your fists can only go so far after all and the Prime Minister didn't raise a barbarian. Despite the insult you took it with a smile, and you silently revel in how your lack of reaction bothers the king. You feel actually a little bit giddy, as Aultcray is going to lose this bout without you having to do anything at all.

"Your Majesty you've forgotten someone!" Motoyasu, you can tell just by looking at him is guilty from his reaction earlier and feels bad just by looking at you and that's perfect. This small petty display has already driven a confrontation between him and the king. "Ah, yes... The Shield Hero... Please tell us your name." The way he said Shield Hero was with a clear disdain that even Motoyasu could pick up, leaving him visibly confused he looked ready to say something about it before the Sword Hero stopped him. "Sakura Yukihime, fourteen. I was a soldier."
Bro-toyasu.

Priest says, feeling much more confident you think amused "The stronger you get, the better your legendary weapon becomes however the legendary weapons either do not work in close proximity or stunt their growth so we prepared for you to set up parties before your arrival."
Huh...that sounds a bit like bullshit, considering the four Heroes make one complete elite party. Other than XP split being a problem.

A bit surprising that the protagonist makes no mention of her adopted daughter.

Ehh, its more like the people there she met in like 10 minutes. The closest people she trusts here start and end at Motoyasu, who she can tell isn't the type that could keep secrets.

The worst scenario in her mind is that they have some way to be able to drag her into the world she's in to enforce her loyalty and until she knows more about magic and its limitations (she was quite literally raised from the dead and transported) she's going to be tight lipped about things people can use against her.

Its also habit as well, you don't really go around talking about your dependents in the apocalypse to strangers.

"Hello Mam/Sir, would you like to risk your life fighting terrifying monsters?"

Not quite what I meant. Her daughter has not appeared in her inter monologue at all.

Ahhh yeah. I tried to comb things into the inner monologue but none of it felt that right at the time. I'm planning on doing something with it soon.

Mostly I didn't think it would make sense to have her dwell on it right after deciding to put the fact that she got killed and the implications behind her to focus on the world in front of her. Its why she keeps focusing on the little details during lulls of conversation so she can repress until she can break down somewhere else.

Tldr once things stop distracting her from this she's gonna have a bad time.

The other reason is Meta and I don't think it'd be very pleasant to write myself out of the first scene with the mc having a mental breakdown.

This is definitely the adventurers' guild.

Also, are we following manga continuity or a mix? Since the manga is the only one that has the adventurers choosing the heroes on the same day as the summoning, rather than waiting for the next day.

That's a thing, actually. Even the weapon themselves tell the heroes with a pop-up. When cardinal heroes fight near each other they don't gain exp, and having to share the resources they get from monsters would probably slow their growth too. Also, considering the fact that there are waves all across the world, it makes more sense to spread them out rather than keeping them together.

Continuity is going to be mostly the Manga.
Events will change due to butterfly effect but the start is mirroring the manga.
