Why wake one up when there are already legions of them running around?
I am pretty sure that no fortress could withstand the wrath of Angband forever, at some point Morgoth would come up with some new abomination to break any defense.
Morgoth couldn't do shit about Gondolin. He needed it to be betrayed to have a chance. Menegroth also made a fairly good go at it; Morgoth needed Fëanor's help to even break the outermost line of defenses for a single servant.

The cool thing about the Dwarves would be the what if: What if the Dwarves of Belegost and Nogrod extended influence into the woods between them and Khazad Dum, letting the Dwarves get first crack at the Human Tribes and offer them land around their mountain halls? A Lonely Mountain-Men of Dale alliance 6 millenia early! And the Dwarves would get a massive boost from the alliance.

[X] Durin's Folk

Dwarves... are the untold story. They were never a part of the world god intended, the progeny of a god's mad moment of inspiration. When the First Age came to a close in canon they would have thought themselves the rising star, humanity barely even an afterthought until the Numenor's terrifying return. Then everything they had just wasn't enough. Everything was stolen from them.

A few different choices and things can be different. The ages to come can be ones of stone and steel.

I also want to point out for those voting for the House of Feanor because they want to change the fate of the Feanorians, thats probably not going to work out.

Feanor gets to take One action independently every turn completely outside of our control. With his Stats and his personality, he only needs to fuck up once to completely bring everything crashing down. And considering that he cannot be High King of the Noldor, good odds he will finally make good of his threat and kill his brother.

The Sons of Feanor are also not really under our control, they are independent leaders in their own right and they also take actions independently of our input. And given that only 2 out of 7 of them arent complete dicks with superpowers, errr good luck with that.

There are 7 sons of Fëanor; even if you count the peoples of middle earth version where one of the twins died on the ship (which this quest isn't) that still leaves 6, not 5?

E: misremembered

[X] The Sindar

>Has an actual Valar as part of the faction.
Ainur, actually. There are only 14/15 Valar (depending on how you count), and Melian isn't one of them - she's just one of the strongest maiar.
Also, for completeness I should note that the Feanorians should also have a maiar onside at this point, since Huan doesn't leave Celegorm until the Lay of Lethian.

'Both sides were pitiless, and there was death and cruel deeds by dark
and by light. But the Dwarves had the victory through their strength, and their
matchless weapons, and the fire of their anger...'

Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu! For the glory of the Longbeards!

(Quite looking forward to this Quest, thanks for putting it on!)
