The staff does not fit her fighting style. It takes her out of the fight and removes the entire purpose you all seem to be going for.

During the fight, yeah. The main use of a staff would most certainly be before and after a fight, and allows her to actually use her buster sword during. (Given how large the buster sword is, I'm guessing that switching to a secondary means discarding it until some breathing space has been created.) We all want her to primary with buster sword, picking another weapon useful in the same situations as a buster sword creates a conflict- either she never really uses her secondary (a waste) or she uses her buster sword less than she could.

Aside from that, if you don't want staff, would you accept alchemy as a class slot instead? It would still get us the healing I want without messing up weapon builds.

If you want healing, get a healer. We picked a weapon that meshes poorly with being one ourselves. That bed's been made, and now we've got to lie in it.

Since we're doing declarations of intent, here's the two I'd mentioned before, put into what I think is the proper format.

Plan #1, Professionals Study Logistics.
[ ] Staff
[ ] Strategy and Logistics
[ ] Tactics and Command
[ ] Trade and Commerce
[ ] Buster Sword

Plan #2, Wyvern Hunter Neianne.
[ ] Bow
[ ] Beastiary
[ ] Scouting and Tracking
[ ] Tactics and Command
[ ] Buster Sword

Melee weapons have specialties. The dagger isn't the same as the Buster Sword. They don't do the same things, they aren't viable in the same ways. Neither is a waste.

Yeah I would like either of these.

Kinda sucks that unarmed got shot right out of existence but eh. I like that trade and commerce is in there and I have no interest in staff.

Nah, she noticed how much fun Neianne was having playing with her big sword, so she will decide to get one for herself.
Elizabeth seems entirely unbothered. "Well, the fun of big SWORDS is more other people having them, don't you think?"
That's how this scene went, right?

My reasoning is thus.
Tactics and Command is a necessity given her new responsibilities as squad leader.
Buster Sword is a given because I really want Neianne to live up to her instructor's daydreams.
And Bestiary is the last of my dual options because Neianne has suffered two attacks by the Squirrels' monsters. I feel it would be completely in character for her to take at least one year's worth of classes on the subject.

Now for my choice differences.
I would like Neianne to have a ranged option. And she's strong enough to use a crossbow in her offhand. So, Bow.
Failing that I want Neianne to have something to fall back on when she doesn't have her Buster Sword. Dagger makes a good secondary weapon she can carry more places than even a smaller crossbow.
That's why my first plan has Advanced Unarmed Combat. Dagger, depending on the derivative, fills out the emergency hold-out weapon niche that Bow lacks.
So, while I would like to take Alchemy and Botany, I will have to save that for third year, along with most of the courses I like.

Tome would be badass, and I'd love to have more chats about magic. That said, there is a point about specializing - although I'll gladly vote for a tome plan if it gains traction. (If there's no etiquette) Not too into the aesthetic of the staff/buster together, and I agree that having Elizabeth nurse us to health is sweet. Merc Neianne is just a straight rip of current one by minx with a mace over dagger, just personal taste here. Don't care for the dagger much.

Edit: With a bit more clarification, gonna use my second plan as strategic - I don't particularly like daggers but they're fine. As for my first plan, I'm just going with what I really want despite it almost certainly not winning. Learning/discussing tome magic with Elizabeth is super appealing to me.

This is just @Brainwasher 's post with the order reversed. :)

If I was creating the plans from scratch I would probably trade out Bestiary for Trade in the first and Strategy for Scouting on the second, but I'd be fine with either of these plans I think.

Annnnnnnd I just realized an issue. This stuff is all going to go by line or block. Yikes. Best to just use the "none" on the tally then.

I can see Scouting over Strategy, slots the squad into a different role but it's still fitting for a more archetypical Mercenary type. Has a bit more variety too, since strategy/logistics is rather specialized for longer/bigger humanoid fights and planning with other squads/military in general.

Don't understand the Trade over Bestiary though. Bestiary is kind of important towards the beast hunting aspect IMO. Rationale?

Mostly just I think Trade is important based on the story so far, and wanted it in my plan. I wasn't really going for "beast hunter" originally, I just started building Anowack's Bow Plan, noticed I was one option away from a plan with some traction and Bestiary was on my short list, so I figured I'd just go for that one.
