So, now that everyone's had time to process the fact that you made the mad scientist cry...

Again, common sense wins. Which is probably a good thing, if you don't want a broken leg. Or a broken Kari. That was also a possibility.

You Had to Pick the Most Boring Location on the Savanna
...Right. Well. At least this situation is one you're prepared for, as much as you can be prepared for anything, these days.

"Sora, do you need help?" Birdramon asks you. You nod.

"Yes, please." It's never failed to amaze you to see her take off, to spread her wings and just.... move. You're pretty sure normal birds don't work that way, but Birdramon's special, because she's your Digimon.

She doesn't arrange herself all that well. But you have less of a drop now, and that's helpful, because Kari's starting to actually freak out. You're worried about her, but right now, what matters is the landing. You close your eyes, trust your partner not to let anything go wrong... and let go.

Soft feathers cushion your fall, in just the way you were expecting, and Kari wriggles free of your grip to grab on to your partner. Which is fair, she's the one keeping the two of you from hitting the ground and shattering. You don't really play a part in this beyond being the one who fuels her Digivolutions.

Birdramon floats a bit lower to the ground, and once the height is a bit safer, Kari leaps off of her back and lands on the ground, just sitting there for a moment.

"Kari, why did you do that?" Bukamon asks. She shakes her head.

"Too high..." ...Okay, yeah, you definitely need to hurt someone.

"Kari, we need to go back to the others," You point out. "It'll take longer if we walk. Are you sure you don't want to fly?"

"I'm sure." ...Well, it looks like you're walking back, then. It's not quite what you expected when you woke up this morning, but in all honesty, you don't know why you even bother expecting things anymore.

"Birdramon, go a bit ahead. Make sure it's safe," You say, deciding that you don't want to try and fight anything at the moment. You're just going to walk and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

...It comes to mind that it hasn't rained once since you got here, and that might be concerning. But it's not your problem, anyway.

By the time you get back to the old card shop, the moon is high in the sky and everyone is asleep. You don't blame them. Even Izzy's curled up in the corner, next to his laptop that is now covered in Digicode runes. You're hoping that they only have an effect in this world, because the alternative is honestly more terrifying than the residential computer nerd has any real right to be. World made of data or not.

Mimi is up against a different wall, using Palmon for a pillow. Somehow, that doesn't surprise you in the slightest. The various Digimon are all spread out, snoozing away. From his position, you figure that Ogremon was supposed to be on watch, but dozed off. This doesn't really surprise you, either.

Of course, this means that your plan of 'give simplified explanation, details in the morning' isn't going to work that well. You may have to actually put in some effort before you crash. Oh, well.

[ ] Wake up Ogremon. Tell him the time, figure out the watch schedule from there, everything else can wait.

[ ] Wake up Izzy. Focus on the details, let Kari do most of the talking... it should be fine.

[ ] ...Nobody's going to attack an abandoned card shop. Time for sleep.

[X] Wake up Ogremon. Tell him the time, figure out the watch schedule from there, everything else can wait.

Safety first.

Make decisions on rested minds, not while half-asleep and panicking.

We only will be attacked if we don't have a watch going.

Well, this is fairly simple.

Of course, a reiteration of the fact that you all chose to go to the most boring planned location on the savanna, because you wanted loot. Loot that's not going to become relevant for a long time.

...Also, the only thing keeping Izzy from having MegaKabuterimon is stat limits, now. I should probably rebalance that Trait so he doesn't figure out how to hop straight to Mega.

in Which Nothing of Note Occurs
You walk up to Ogremon, nudging him with your foot. "Hey, wake up." It's not the most elegant of solutions, but it'll do, right now.

"Huh? ...Wait, what time is it?"

In response, you fish for your Digivice. "It's about fifteen minutes before midnight. I take it you were meant to be on watch?"

"...Maybe. I'm gonna go wake up the pink girl, it's about her turn now. Who's this?" He asks, pointing to Kari.

"This is Kari. She was trapped in a bubble earlier, and I'm not entirely sure she's slept recently..." You glance at her, to see her shake her head. "...Yeah, we're just going to crash against that wall and pretend today never happened." Maybe, if you ignore the problem, it'll go away overnight.

...Okay, probably not. But you can get some well-earned sleep, and that's really all you care about right now.

You wake up the next morning to the overly-familiar sound of Izzy tapping away at his keyboard. With the infinite power supply, you realize that you're going to be hearing a lot more of that, now.

That fact scares you a lot more than it should have. Probably because, just a few days ago, he programmed Tentomon to Digivolve on command. Not exactly the mark of someone that's completely normal, even relative to the regular DigiWorld weirdness.

The first thing you do once you open your eyes is to check to make sure Kari and Bukamon are still asleep. They are, the little In-Training Digimon snoozing on top of her head. It's adorable.

It comes to mind that, for once, you've woken up without Biyomon's help. You wonder if you should be happy about that or not. "Good morning," You say, noting how Izzy glances up in surprise.

"Oh, Sora. I'm surprised you're up already."

"That makes two of us. So, what are you doing?"

"I'm trying to hack into the Black Gears beneath this section of the island. If I can reverse their rotation, we can head back and rejoin the main island without having to lift a finger. Well, you won't, anyway." That does sound like a good idea, if only because you don't want to float in one direction in the middle of nowhere forever, or until you hit another landmass.

Besides, you're not entirely sure Birdramon and Kabuterimon can carry you the distance back to Infinity Mountain if they tried, let alone when bringing Mimi and Kari along.

You just need to figure out what you're going to be doing while he messes around with the fabric of reality.

...It sort of scares you that you don't find anything strange about being able to think that in full context.

[ ] Help him along. You're good enough with Digicode that you can't make anything worse.

[ ] Talk to Kari more. Try and figure out what happened to Tai. See if you can't do anything for Bukamon. Something, anything, to make you feel useful.

[ ] Mimi seems to have the whole 'survival' thing a lot more together than you do. This must be remedied!

[ ] Get to know Ogremon and Team Moon better. If it comes down to a fight with Devimon, you're probably going to end up allied.

What IS the requirement for him to progress towards unlocking and Mastering his Trait anyways?

Edit:

I liked the talk with Kari option, because she needs it, right up until that last line in it. Why is she that down on herself here? I know why it came up in canon, but she's quite a bit ore competent here than she was there.

At first, it was 'do things with Digicode' because I figured it'd take a realistic amount of time, and then he met Haruka. I'm trying to figure out what criteria I should give for him to progress along mastery that will hopefully take a long time, because as it is, he could probably just hack Tentomon's stats to get what he wants.

Suffice to say, him doing that would break the quest. So I'm working things through to avoid that. Because as fun as it would be to drop HerculesKabuterimon on things... no. Just no.

Learn in a more general sense of things, figure out how to properly use his knowledge, and how to avoid the bad side of seeking and using knowledge(seeking it to the point of neglecting friends and his own health, misuse like acting like he's better than others and using it for more malevolent means.)

And learn to accept knowledge he may not like and to not deny whole truths and being blinded by his biases as well.

Maybe he has to master his Crest in a sort of "Knowledge is only useful when tempered with wisdom" sort of thing? Until he masters that, and loses the attitude that he seems to be getting, his relationship with Tentomon is less partner and more master and servant. Digicode can only do so much, he's still got to contend with the metaphysical realities of the Digital World, including the fact that friendship is literally power here.

I mean, that's more or less canon. More or less. (He never really had a problem with the accepting truths and blinded by biases thing from what I remember, or at least character development let him solve those issues on his own).

Just no one is really attached to him enough save maybe Sora at this point to pull his head out of his ass and he hasn't really had the character development or gotten attached to any of them save maybe Sora for him to do it on his own either.

On the other hand, Sora's kinda good at the whole "Caring" thing. :V

I mean, they do need their Crests for a reason to get to Ultimate. Apparently human bodies kinda suck at channeling the power of Souls or something... Well there's an interesting desperation move.

I thought of something similar a while ago honestly, but aren't their Crests digicode? The only other question would be what the Crests are made of, but, err... carving the code into their body somehow (tattoo? Though literally carving is an option if a real desperate one) to channel their Souls.
