Getting a lawyer will increase the chance that the trio is punished. Brandish is a cape and Taylor's power makes dealing with cape easier than dealing with normal people. Besides, isn't New Wave is all about cape accountability? That said, lawyers are expensive and while you can probably work around that. Brandish is also on the same firm as Emma's dad which could be a problem. And while New Wave is said to be about cape accountability, who knows if that is just some good PR? Does New Wave even know the wards unmasked to recognize Sophia Hess is a bully?

- I'd honestly be ok with a regular lawyer as well, and there has to be at least a few who would take this case on a contingent/conditional fee (accepting payment if we get a payout/we win), this would also get us into contact with capes helping our power though.

While Taylor has enough evidence of a long harassment campaign. More is better, right? Well, when said evidence is the bullying being done to Taylor. Maybe enough is enough. The trio is also on a pattern of slow escalation, who knows what they will do in the future?

- keeping it secret from danny is dumb, other than the obvious behavioural and tech changes that are happening simply being a tinker puts danny in danger. then there is the whole keep everything secret mentality that taylor has and just doesn't work for her. we know the PRT screwed her over (or at least the school) and we have evidence i honestly see no reason not to tell him.

Sophia's caseworker might have some important information. Know the enemy and all that.

- this should show whether this is internal corruption or just personal corruption, ooc knowledge but still important for her to find out.

Dad is dad. He is also a high level beuracrat in a union, an orginazation that has a wide vareity of skilled people who owe him favors and that has lost people to gangs who still think well of him. We are an organization tinker. Do the math.

Its information and part of an investigation. Even the worst case scenario just bring things to a table and into a mess we can blow up while good info can make resovling the situation cut and dry.

You know if you really want an excuse for buying lots of electronics and appliances you could always claim you were robbed and need to replace all your stuff.

Getting a good lawyer will increase the chance that the trio is punished. Brandish isn't the only lawyer and Allan's firm isn't the only firm in town. Find a lawyer that can do a good representation. That said, lawyers even non-cape lawyers are expensive. But, you can probably work around that. Taylor can also research someone using her powers so she gets a good one. That said, it is also true that Taylor's power works better on capes.
 
Since so far the votes for whether or not we should tell Danny anything are even (not counting the semi disclosure thing) i'd like to start a small discussion with whomever is willing to get the arguments out there.

On the disclose side there are a few things I can see (please tell me if you have an argument you'd like to add):

1. We are a tinker, this means that weird techie behaviour and fugues will be difficult to hide from him, it also means that we are a more valuable resource for the gangs (including the prt) which increases the risks for Danny.

1.1 Being open with Danny means that we won't have to hide our tech from him.
1.2 Danny might also find out on his own, then push the wards on us as he lacks context to our actions. I'd like to reiterate once more that we're a tinker... even if we can hide the tech hiding the act of tinkering from the father who lives in the same small house is going to be difficult.

2. We are an organisation/network tinker forgetting our trump aspect this means we work best with minions/people to work with, Danny gives us direct access to the DWA if we can convince him about it.

3. Danny is a bureaucrat, he knows the system and should be able to work within it, at the very least he's trustworthy and will try to do what's best for us.
3.1 (edit) Danny has a non-tinker brain to pick, as grilled Cheezus stated having someone to point out flaws that Taylor's tinker brain might ignore is also a bonus.

4. Danny's less likely to push Taylor into the wards, after all they fucked up with Sophia though this might be wrong as he could be scared into pushing for the wards anyway with the death/forced recruitment statistic, some people could argue that the wards is still a enviable position Sophia being an exception and all that as well as it giving us access to vista and Clockblocker... constant inflow of time/space tech as well as tinker help in the form of Armsmaster/Dragon/Kid win.

5. Mentality, so far we've been pushing Taylor to act against her keep it secret and suffer in solitude mentality she had in cannon, it's angsty and honestly hasn't done Taylor much good this would be a step further in that direction.

6. Taylor's relationship with her father might get better, a lot of people in the fandom don't like Danny, a lot of others feel the opposite way this is a debate for another time, what matters is that their relationship will only improve by interacting with each-other.

7. (edit) Danny could help us with the tinkertech resource problem, either by directly buying things for us or getting it via the DWA, which is honestly a far safer way of getting us resources than going out to the market multiple times (which is memorable and thus dangerous, or the scrap yards which are being actively watched as tinkerbait).

For the secret society's side:
1. A higher chance of anonymity, slightly less true since tinker behaviour is very easily spotted though this Danny might not see it... despite suddenly buying new tech and taking second hand things from the flee market apart...and the fugues, even so the less people that know about it the less likely anything weird will happen.

2. Telling Danny might lead him to push us towards the wards regardless of Taylor's trauma with Sophia, and some people really don't want to become wards which is fine, it's not like it will lock us out of any tech tree, we'd also get faster experience (in the tech tree sense) because we'd likely get into more fights and how her power works.

3. Danny might not agree with our fifth amendment style of gathering evidence of corruption, which might hinder getting justice.

4. It lessens Taylor's plot agency, we'll be giving up some of her perceived freedom to an authority figure.

5. Danny might be useless, he hasn't done anything for Taylor this past year and some people suspect that man is simply incompetent when it comes to his daughter, if this happens to be the case it might actually worsen Taylor's relationship with him, though the same could also be said if Danny pushes the wards against her will.

6. This may lead to Taylor striking it out on her own/with a totally different group, which is what some people might want.

The issues that Taylor needs to take care of is so far.
  • Education - Even if Taylor finds a way to test out of school or something like that she still need to make sure to avoid too much scrutiny from those who look for signs of a Thinker in places like those
  • Location - She needs a place that she could use as a lair in where she can store her stuff without people finding her and has the room for it since her house has limited amount of room to deal with
  • Funds - She needs more ways to make money and she might to bend the law for them
  • Resources - Sooner or later she will need to find a way to gather resources without being noticed by the gangs and the PRT
  • Security - To be able to protect herself in both the real world and the online world is a must for any Tinker
  • Time - Something there just not enough time to do things you needed to be done
These are just some issues that might come up later for herself. Never-mind the other stuff like Coil, Dragon, Tattletale, and so on.
 
Danny won't be useless. The times he were in canon were basically impossible to pull out of due to them being sprung on him out of nowhere or Taylor being a Para human with Para human help.

It's really really hard to pull something out a meeting that starts with your daughter assaulting someone and you getting read in on the cause at the meeting after the bombings have started.

only issue I have with full Disclosure is telling Danny about being a Cape since I expect he will try to get us into the shitty wards program.

-It's probably a good idea to get some advice about where to go next. Since Brandish is all for cape accountability, she'd probably be on board with making a plan to stick it to the PRT (I.e not letting them quietly reassign Sophia somewhere to save face and keep an asset). Taylor would have to walk an admittedly thin line with the unwritten rules and prepare herself about be prepared to answer some potentially incriminating questions without exposing herself ("How do you know Sophia Hess is Shadow Stalker? How were you able to gather this information?" etc.), but I think that proper application of her thinker power should help her navigate the interaction easier than with a normal lawyer.

Plus, hiring Brandish would let her take advantage of the sway that New Wave has, ensuring that the PRT would have to handle the case carefully for fear of alienating New Wave. Even barring the seven other parahumans in New Wave, Panacea alone would probably be enough to make the PRT bend over backwards to avoid antagonizing the team. If all else fails, Taylor could ask for Attorney-Client privilege before telling Brandish anything, since she seems the type to stick to her word as long as doing so puts no one in direct danger.

Taylor can't really hide being a tinker from someone she's living with forever and, as others have said before me, Danny would probably sign her up with the wards "For her own good" if he found out on his own. If she tells him now, controls the information, and makes it very clear why she doesn't want to join the Wards, I'm confident he'll be on her side. Plus, not telling him would be keeping him unaware of the danger he is in from those that would target Taylor, and therefore unable to take proper precautions.

Even just having someone to bounce ideas off of or help make plans would be immensely valuable before she gets set up with a group. We've already seen one example in the story that Danny could have probably helped with: the Chloroform. She was planing on making a tinkertech weapon based on a fundamentally flawed understanding of the materials she was using, something that even a non-tinker with life experience could have pointed out to her. And just because she's a tinker, doesn't mean that she won't make similar mistakes in the future, something that Danny could help her avoid.


[X] Leave it alone

Tracking the email has a significant chance of putting Taylor on the PRT's radar, and by extension everyone who has access to their information (read: literally every gang in the city except maybe the Merchants), which is something she should avoid like the plague until she sets up with a group. She'd probably lose her anonymity for very little potential information gain, which is by no means a fair trade. Just leave it alone for now.

Remember, you gain specialities from other parahumans. Brandish can also help us get other specialities from the rest of New Wave...

personally i agree with you, but it's still an argument some people have, the danny hate is real in parts of the fandom. and whilst i might be obviously biased in his favour, the argument is mostly saying that if he fails to be useful (once again something i personally doubt) he'll sour the relationship between them even further.

yeah, that and personally if we aren't taken seriously by her we could always just get another lawyer.
