You Are: A sector admiral of a strained imperium.

[X] Evade. Keep your distance and shoot both of them to pieces. While neither enemy vessel is incompetently handled they have no speed advantage and you are far superior to either.

War Bishop Honorius (Strategy 10, Tactics 11, Prowess 15)

Someone has been eating his Wheaties..

These medium cruisers must be the pride of the Valinor Regency's fleet.

[X] Coup de Main. Evade, blow one of them apart, then cripple the other before launching an assault using marine shuttles where you try to seize their ship before they are able to suicide. They will be much less eager to blow themselves up without a capital ship alongside to trade for. Almost nobody has actually captured a Valinor Regency warship before and these medium cruisers are extremely potent. Prestigious and valuable.

Let's see if we can pickup a prize or not.

@Messenth Well neither of them is ideal, you probably advanced Lt Commander Sir Justerr Yourner on merit though. He was likely the corvettes XO, his records showed that he was absolutely superb as XO, keeping the ship running, managing the crew, large scale planning etc. Also a skilled and brave combatant in boarding actions... But it turns out he does not really know how to fight a ship very well.

Lt Commander Patra Greson is more miserable but keep in mind that Tactics 9 is about average for that rank, it was likely a seniority thing.

Also the cruiser raid was going ahead regardless of what you had chosen, well, if you had raided the NASP then it might have been called off. This did actually put you in a good position to counter it. You just had very very few ships actually active this 'turn'.

@uju32 The Tohil was I think 1 durability away from being completely destroyed. She was not prioritized for refit and was in fact partially dissembled to help with reverse engineering. She is still being put back together in the shipyards over Ilam.

@Satar @Korporati No recruiting of suicide ships. Valinor only does it because they have five planets full of religious fanatics and are faced with an atheist foe a hundred times their size. Note that anyone good enough to serve on a military starship can be paid enough to get their family out of debt bondage if they put a full career in. Or rather faster if they serve on one of your ships and get rich on prize money.

Also damage rollover is very much a combat calculator thing.

Additionally War Bishop Honorius with Prowess 15 is indeed a deeply scary individual! The Valinor Regency practice almost Dune type mental conditioning and training, though without the benefit of actual Space Magic. He probably had inferior cybernetic augmentation to Strauss or other commoner Imperial officers but is some kind of absurdly capable religious fanatic meditative sword master who, in raw skill, blows Ranca out of the water.

Edit: Also the combined Valinor Regency probably has an economy a little bigger than Chuang Mu's but several times the military spending. They have somewhere in the region of 10-20 medium cruisers and dozens of corvettes. They lack the ability to build capital ships.

So we have a strike cruiser and that partly-finished battleship in construction over Ilam.
We really will leave this sector much better off than it was.

I assume their actual equipment is significantly worse than ours, so let our Prowess 11 Marine colonel and one of the junior officers tag team him. I will take a certain degree of satisfaction ftom pruning their better officers.

How does the suicide bomb thing work mechanically anyway?
Is it a time limit to win a boarding fight or we go kaboom, or is it a Subterfuge rolloff?

Huh.
Someone should probably go kick over some of those shipyards if they keep this up.
They probably don't have anything better than Chang Mu defenses at any one of their five systems, so should be doable with two BCs.

Probably not worth bothering to loot the place though.

Yeah, this guy is pretty insane.
I really rather not fight this guy

Korporati Votes.

Trying to be greedy when we have two ships that belong to a polity known to suicide bomb, one of which has a combatant nearly as capable as Ranca is extremely foolish. Forget how prestigious and expensive the ships are, we have much bigger things to worry about.

Unrelated to the voting at hand... I've observed that none of the characters seem to have an image to represent how they look. If the thread is alright with my proposal, I propose that each of us try and find an image of a character that they think fits the best with one of the characters involved in the narrative of this quest. (If we agree to this, then whoever wants to do this should state what character they choose to find a suitable image for)

I'll start with our protagonist, Reinhard Strauss...

I reject the idea of giving our PC an image since it ruins the mystique and I'd rather use my imagination.

Edit: sorry, i also dont like anime.

Point of order:
Reinhard wouldn't be fighting him, our junior officers and marines would.
Superior numbers (10 vs 4), better equipment. Reinhard generally runs coordination unless absolutely necessary.

Feel free to vote against it anyway.

Not how the combat engine works.
We're taking the same space combat risk in Evasion as we are in Coup De Main.

What it boils down to is whether we are willing to risk Marines after winning the space battle in order to attempt to claim the ship.
And we'd be doing so by shuttle.

To be fair to @ThatGuyWithIdeas , if I remember correctly, the avatar he chose was one of the legendary strategic badasses from Legend of Galactic Heroes. Whose name is Reinhard von Lohengramm. Though that guy was born a Noble, so he was more something of an internal reformer. Still, purely from a character pov, rather fitting.

That said, I too would prefer either no pics or pictures chosen by the QM.

You're doing it all wrong.

Too European. I've always pictured a lot of the people in this quest as being mixed race, or at least with different combinations of features existent today. I somewhat imagine Reinhard to be a cross between Zhuge Liang and Ludwig II of Bavaria.

The empire is definitely a gigantic melting pot when it comes to ethnicity whilst a large minority of independent worlds (or recently acquired worlds) originate from STL colonisation missions launched by single nations and are relatively homogeneous, only having had the chance to really intermix over the last 2-3 centuries. That said these missions were launched by single nations, a few hundred years into the future, so most of them are very mixed.

Actual nobles tend to defy any logic there because most of them are 'custom designed'. If a noble couple want a child with dark skin, blue eyes and white hair? That is trivial compared to making them two meters tall and twice as strong as they would be naturally, with a hundred fifty year lifespan, perfect health and fitness plus a guaranteed 130+ IQ.
