Personally I think we should go with Thunder.

Because I'm guessing this girl has a better understanding of electricity than anyone else in this world.

[X] Thunder echoes in your mind-- lightning fills the darkness and destroys it from within.

I'm not so sure about that.
I mean, normal electricity, probably, but Thunder is more of a thingamagic that the local residents know a thing or two about.

The only one I can't readily identify is the third one. Consulting the worldbuilding guide, I'm guessing that's arcane?

EDIT: Nope, wait, that's air. Never mind. So in order we've got: Fire, water, air, earth, ice, lightning, light, and shadow. Surprised arcane isn't a choice but then I'm betting that's what Mr. Generiji Isekai got.

Soooo
You're saying that his chosen element depends on ours? Or vice versa?
I mean, it makes narrative sense, but are there any in-story reasons?
Let me guess: itz a zigrett.
Oh.

OHHHHH

yeah, Protag-kun isn't exactly thought of as the Main Character by me. I view him as a fuck who'd not important.

He has a Magic completely unrelated to this choice.

Hmmm, I'd say I'll betcha an even 5 bucks that it won't happen, and either raise my offer or lower it depending on how votes go.
I'm betting the main protagonist is a special snowflake and gets Aether.

That aside...

[x] You surprise yourself, and let yourself fall into it-- to discover it doesn't harm you, and lets you search for color and warmth beyond the darkness.

I like thunder, darkness, and air the best, but I love the imagery of darkness in this specific scene, so I'll vote it for now.

I like wind, shade and thunder the most, thematically. Just so you know.

I think our choice depends on aesthetics, mostly, and how creative and comfortable the questers can get with a given element.

Also bullshit symbolism, but that's par for the course. :V

I will stew on my decision a little.
Right, style. That is also a very important facet to consider.

With Wind, we do have the image of freedom. Liberated by the new world and lacking old ties and responsibilities. Content to some extend but also capable of being fierce went it comes down to it.

Shade is pretty self explanatory. The whole dark asthetic does have some appeal, and, assuming it doesn't force us into some kind of anti-hero thing, we might as well build on not being the protag by keeping out of the spotlight.

Thunder meanwhile just has an inherent cool factor to it, though I'm not sure if I can get much deeper meaning out of it.

Still going with wind from that angle. As mentioned before, I do kinda like Johanna's disposition to her isekai situation and going with the freedom of air fits it the best.

I mean, part of the reason I'm surprised we and/or Generiji Isekai ain't getting arcane/aether is because that's what I'd peg as the "special snowflake power" you'd expect the summoned to get.

Haha, I guess these elements are pretty popular in our community, aren't they.

Fire can also be pretty popular as well...

And we are a red-head, who seem to always wind up with fire based abilities...

[X] Emotions blast through you-- and leaves to batter at the darkness around it, swirling it around and taking it away as if it was caught by a tornado.

I considered thunder for quite awhile but went with air because of the thematic arguement and I'm pretty sure that air can "secondary" thunder pretty good, since both come from the sky and all.

You know what, let's do it. Let's get dark powers and have the inevitably light-powered MC assume we are an enemy.

Whether or not that assessment is correct will be something decided by us.

To be honest, the main reason Arcane isn't an option is because I can't think of a translation for it into an element, and I like it being the useless, spicy wild card of the Ley types.

See that's (on an actually serious note rather than my typical voting for darkness every time it's an option) why I think Shade works best.

The phrasing of it seems like accepting her situation and moving past the inital panicked reaction to find something good and new in it.

Shade is quite tempting, but I'm going for Air, because Haste is pure, Skitter-grade Bullshit™.

Having read the notes, Thunder seems to be as common as dirt, no pun intended. Nothing wrong with that, but-
Course it's wrong, we are not some peasant, we are a distinguished lady of class and taste! :V

Yeah, I can see that. It's a reason why I'd pick it at my number two spot, actually. Air still slightly wins out for me, because it also holds that edge of ferocity. Which may or may not be influenced by the character picture as well.

Stepping back from style again for a moment, Air does win pretty handily on the practical side. So yeah, keeping my vote there for now.

And that's my other (legitimate) reason for Shade. The Ley notes indicate that people think Shade is...basically useless. All they know how to do with it is make smoke clouds basically.

People will have strategies to counter the others to one extent or another, the more common or powerful the more the counter-tactics will be refined.

Shade is the opportunity to do something that can't be easily anticipated.

That's certainly true. Sorry I can't support you in this, tho.
Wind has been the most favorite element for a long time to me, probably because I've watched Avatar: The Last Airbender too much in my childhood, so it wins over Shade.
So yeah, my personal preference.

Besides, Anya Homura hadn't thought out Shade all that much, and I really don't want to saddle the QM with more work than necessary.

( Although, I certainly had. There is one setting I've been preparing for a long time and whatnot. If you need some help with ideas, you can PM me. )

Actually, if we really want to, we can summon lightning using air and ice.
Kinda like what happens during thunderstorms.

Maybe we can do it with just air, but that would require subatomic precision, so probably not.

[X] Everything overflows inside your mind-- you're left watching the waves wash away the darkness that held you.

[x] Something cools, and hardens in you-- the darkness freezes into place, leaving you a path through the new ice sculptures.

........... Look ice powers are really cool.
