[w] Argue that it was a limited opportunity and you couldn't talk to him about it beforehand, stuff like this comes with the adventurer territory

"But Tobias, I couldn't tell you about it, if I went up then they wouldn't have let me go back down. And if I gave you a signal they might have seen," you try to explain.

"Why did you have to go in there anyway?" he asks firmly.

"It was suspicious, this whole thing was. And I'm an adventurer, checking out suspicious things is what we do."

"She's not wrong," Mira pipes up.

"You two are the ones who put all these thoughts about adventuring in her head in the first place!" Tobias points an accusatory finger at Mira and Liam, his eyes twitching in irritation.

"Hey, we just came along, she wanted to come with us and be an adventurer!" Mira objects.

"Tobias, please, calm yourself. We are not forcing either of you to accompany us," Liam says soothingly.

"Fine, but I don't want you adventuring on your own again, okay?"

Before you can answer, Jocelyn interrupts, all of the amusement from watching us argue vanishing from her face.

"Much as I enjoy hearing you all bicker, we're here. So if you'd all be quiet and let me explain the situation, it'd be appreciated."

While walking you'd arrived in front of a decrepit looking building not far from where the show had been set up. Jocelyn stepped away for a moment to talk to a man that stepped out. After a few seconds of gesturing to you all, and you specifically several times, the man's mouth slowly opens, before giving a nod and heading back inside.

Jocelyn comes back and leads you all inside the building. It's nothing like the outside. Everything is spotless and clean. A half dozen people are gathered around a table with several maps and books on it, with circles and lines linking various locations together and the books open to pages about said locations. Along the walls are various pictures of the performers in the show, with various notes about them, most of which have question marks.

"Alright, a quick explanation. This is a travelling show that popped up out of nowhere. Normally these things would start slow and build up an audience, but this one was an instant hit. Even some nearby nobles apparently couldn't help themselves and had to go see what it was about. Obviously this raised flags, but it didn't seem important until officials started missing meetings when it popped up nearby because 'they had to know what it was about' then saying it wasn't all that interesting but going again to see if there's something new. We've been investigating this place for the past month. We've come to the conclusion that they have the favour of some kind of Abomination or God that they're using to draw people in."

She walks over to a mostly blank poster on the wall with a question mark on it instead of a face.

"Which is why when Eshani mentioned a voice I became curiou-"

She's interrupted by a grumpy looking man in a fancy suit barging past.

"Rookie! What are you doing here?! You're meant to be investigating!", he barked out, face set in a stern visage.

"A-ah, Sir! One of these people may have come in contact with the Divine, I felt it prudent to bring her here for questioning." Jocelyn ...Stammered? She hadn't done that since she saw you coming out of the men's bathroom, and you're pretty sure that was her acting.

"And why'd you bring her entire entourage?"

"B-because I thought they'd be worried about her?"

He lets out a long sigh. "Rookie," he begins in a warningly, "you just told, at a minimum, three unrelated civilians about a classified operation. Are you trying to get fired? Because that's your three strikes right there. And technically you should be getting four since you don't even know if this girl actually saw or heard the Divine, what if she's lying, huh?"

Suddenly none of the shy rogue, sarcastic listener or no-nonsense police officer you'd seen from Jocelyn is there, replaced only be a terrified girl trying to stammer out an answer to her boss to avoid being fired. Thankfully for her, Tobias accidentally comes to her rescue.

"Excuse me sir, but I don't exactly count as unrelated, as a cleric I have experience with the Divine," he says.

The grumpy man immediately relaxes and gives Tobias a smile.

"Huh, that's actually perfect. All the clerics we've found nearby are incredibly stuck up. If you could offer some help it'd be much appreciated. Guess that's only two strikes for now Rookie, but don't do this again. Sir, please follow me," he asks Tobias, his mood improved.

Tobias stares at you for a second, turns to Liam and Mira, then sighs and follows the man in charge of the whole operation into a separate room. As soon as they're inside Jocelyn lets out a breath she'd been holding this whole time.

"That, uh, didn't go the way I planned. R-regardless," she tries to get back to her authority persona, "knowing what that voice said to you would be helpful for the investigation, so-"

She's interrupted again by Tobias running out of the boss' office in a panic.

"What happened?" Liam asks.

"Well, you know how I don't like Valcians much?"

"Tell me you didn't," Mira deadpans.

Tobias merely looks away. Mira and Liam simultaneously let out a sigh as the boss returns. Liam instantly tries to apologise for Tobias' rudeness

"Ah, sir, I'm unaware of what my companion said to you, but allow me to insist that he did not-"

"Quiet. I don't care about what he said. Where I was born doesn't matter, I was raised as a Rutopian anyway. The problem is that he's just like every other cleric around here," he said with barely restrained anger

He wheels around to face you, making you jump slightly in apprehension when you see his annoyed face staring at you.

"You, you'd better have some useful information for this investigation, the Rookie's job is on the line for one, and you probably don't want to have the government holding a grudge against you."

Were you...being threatened? This isn't good. W-well, that was a god you talked to right? Telling them that should be fine...you hope.

What will you tell them?

The two Yes's and No's might be confusing when tallied, unless you use task votes.

Saying that we made a pact with a unknown voice might nit be the smartest decision.

Surely the work of a deity whose domain is enlightening people!

You mean, agreeing to the pact with an unknown voice was smarter?
Regardless, it is now relevant to the investigation! The Goddess of !!WISDOM!! demands to let people know the truth.

Because being honest to figures of authority about our involvement with strange occurrences worked out really well in my quest. ;)

Christ in a hat, Tobias! How'd he piss that guy off so badly? They couldn't have been gone for more than 10 seconds.

So, these new implications have only made me even more certain that that voice was tied, in some way, with the domain of curiosity (whether they were a goddess or an abomination, on the other hand, is still in the air).

At this point you're not sure if you were right any more. It seemed like a God of Wisdom, but after what these people said...what if it was an Abomination or something? What if you accepted power from an Abomination!?

"U-um...like I told Jocelyn, there was a symbol; five golden blade-like things with a circle cut out of one edge, and they made a hexagon at their bases."

"See, that's what made me thi-" Jocelyn tries to speak up, only to be interrupted by her boss.

"Quiet Rookie. Go on kid, what did the voice say?"

"It said I was showing curiosity, then that it wouldn't say what it was because it was better to figure stuff out on your own and that I was curious so it would keep an eye on me."

"Figuring stuff out, clearly a knowledge domain. Did it specifically mention curiosity?"

"Yeah, a bunch of times."

"Hmm, Benny!"

A lean young man in a plain blue dress shirt and grey trousers jogs over from the table. He has bags under his eyes, just how much work had these guys been putting in? And with almost nothing to show for it too…

"Yessir?"

"What is the symbol of the God of Curiosity?" the boss asks, before turning back to you to explain, "Benny here is our resident expert on the gods and their symbols."

"I'm not that great," he murmurs at the praise, "anyway, both the God and Abomination of Curiosity have similar symbols, five golden blades with holes in the middle of the edge, and the bases form a hexagon."

"What's the difference then?"

"The God's symbol has the blades pointing clockwise, and the Abomination has them pointing counter-clockwise. If you'd like, I could explain the meaning behind it."

"That won't be necessary, thank you Benny, dismissed."

He salutes and returns to his fellow men looking over the map and notes. According to Benny you'd been talking to an Abomination! And it'd taken an interest in you! This wasn't good...The boss sucks in air sharply through his teeth. That also isn't good, now he'll know you were talking to an Abomination, at least you hadn't told him about getting some power from it.

"Okay, this is important kid, which way were the blade pointing?""

"C-counterclockwise…"

"Oy vey," he walks in a circle and brushes his hair upwards, "Well, this is good enough to act on with all the other evidence we have. Kid, I'm going to have to quarantine you here for now while we deal with this, direct contact with an Abomination is bad news. Rookie, here's your chance to redeem yourself, keep an eye on her. Take some of the eggheads as backup, these guys shouldn't be a threat."

"Y-yessir!" Jocelyn says with an over-enthusiastic salute, so enthusiastic in face that she hit herself in the face while doing it.

"...On second thought, I'll leave a proper guard with you guys just in case." With that, the boss walks away into another room, three burly men and two muscular women follow him. In the meantime Joycelyn leads the four of you to what looks like a holding room.

"You don't have to stay here, but if you leave either me or one of the others will have to come with you, and you can't leave the building," she states.

The room was fairly simple, not much but a table and a mirror, the light glinting off it is looking a little strange actually...wait! It's moving! It's making that symbol you saw!

"Calm down, keep quiet. Okay look, the time for fun and games is over. Those guys got the symbols wrong, they're the other way around. I'm the God of Curiosity, and they're going to kill me by accident."
You woke me up again, and really? Begging?
How can humans kill gods though?
Well, you see-
"They've gotten pretty advanced over time, they have their ways, too complicated to explain right now. You need to stop their operation before they kill me!" she answers your unspoken question, "And before you ask, yes, I can read minds it comes with the curiosity thing."

You heard a door open and six heavy footsteps march out the door. You'll need to act fast if you want to stop them, but you should have enough time to ask a question or two before breaking out to stop the boss, if you even trust this voice that is…

"You don't trust me? How cruel, I'm hurt."
Why would anyone trust you?
What'll you do? Pick up to three.

[] Ask Tobias what he said, how did he get the boss mad so fast?
[] Ask Tobias for info he has on the God and Abomination of Curiosity
[] Ask Liam and Mira for anything they might know from adventuring
[] Ask Jocelyn why she works here, it doesn't sound like a good place to work
[] Ask Benny to tell you about the symbols, being about to identify them would be useful
[] Ask Benny how sure he is about those symbols
[] Ask your friends for their opinions on what's going on
[] Ask one of your friends to distract Jocelyn, use the time to tell the other two that the voice is still talking to you
-[] Write-in who to distract her
[] Ask the voice what it was doing in the show, you should be able to press it if it's desperate "Hey! Don't bully me!
Bully!

On the last point, I'm going with making Tobias run interference because he is the least likely to keep his cool in this situation, and that last thing we need is for the old geezer to have a panic attack.

Not sure if the God is lying, or if the local expert who isn't that great got it wrong.

These two should be able to help clarify that.

Abominations are the ones that exist in opposition to the Gods, while seeking to ruin the world and plunge it in chaos or something, right? So when it comes to Curiosity... if the end result is the same, what's the difference?
