Shadows of the Past

[X] TotallyNotEvil

This place is amazing, might be worth collecting our stuff from the collapsing section and moving it to the more stable ruins.
That's automatic. If you leave Xochi behind, she will move your stuff to the open room, since it offers great protection with none of the spontaneous collapse risk.

The room is full of them, as in a veritable cloud. Slight spoiler, so are the next rooms.

You will have to traipse around them for a good while.

My questions are starting to tread on the mystery so this'll be my last.

How many checks are we looking at?
Big difference between failing and running here at the entrance and 6 rooms deep.

@Azel, what's the DC for the Spirit Talking here?
DC would be 150 normally, but is raised to 180 due to recent experiences with fire.

One for regular movement and you might have to redo the check when doing certain things. I would advise strongly against fighting within the Fire Sprites cloud.

You know, we need to go there to reassure ourselves that most spirits are not inherently evil.

[X] Explore the ruins further (Spirit Talking to walk among the Fire Sprites unharmed)

--[X] Go alone.

-[X] Middle door.

[X] Take detailed engravings of all the inscriptions we can see from a safe distance and a more generalised layout for reference.
-[X] Explore the rest of the cave not inhabited by Fire Sprites.

Every time I try to warn that spirits aren't something to toy with, every time we are a die roll away from Bad End, we are getting away with it with a slap on the wrist. A few encounters like that, and I may be swayed to the YOLOpath, but for now I will postpone experimenting with spirits and our luck until we get a proper training in these matters.

[x] Go back. You've had enough of spirits for a while.
-[x] Commit one of the inscriptions to memory so you could ask about the place later.
-[x] Return to Tlamaca with your spoils.

@Azel
Is it reasonable for us to know of/make use of Charcoal rubbings?
Can we afford paper?

You where rather lucky with the Fleshweaver, but I'm honestly a bit surprised that you guys shrugged off the loss of a hidden attribute point like that. I would have expected quite some salt about that.

Paper is not a thing here in the modern sense. People mostly write on vellum and papyrus like sheets of pressed plant fibers.

Neither of those is suitable for charcoal rubbings, due to the stiffness.

You can however try to copy an inscription by just drawing it, but you have nothing with you to do so.

We have no idea what it is or does.

It's either recoverable and will probably do so before we find out what it is, or gone forever before we knew what it was for.

At this stage I'm more concerned that there's now a hidden number that is odd and non-divisible by 5.

So until you reveal it, it's literally just ?????

Fair enough. I do notice that my secrecy about some things is becoming problematic as they become relevant to the plot, yet remain unknown ICly.

Would you guys prefer if I lift the veil a bit?

I appreciate what you're doing, it makes sense we don't know things in a world like this and our character at the stage she is.

I guess you were trying to be fair by telling us there is some stat effecting us with ????? But I personally wouldn't have minded much if you just ran it in the background until it was something we could understand, of course this is now and I might have been salty as the ocean if something negative came of it :p

How far off finding out IC are we? Looks like it's related to our area of focus so unless it's restricted to Master Level knowledge we should probably find out soon-ish?

I suppose it's a hidden 'MAGIC' stat. Seeing how it's relevant to Fade and Alchemy. Maybe 'SOUL', maybe something else.

Since we don't know how valuable it is, we can't really compare it to Xochi's life. Besides, most other attributes are recoverable, and it was a natural crit. Hard to complain when things could be so much worse.

I am in favor of keeping things hidden until we know about them IC.

I despise arbitrariness and felt that hinting at these hidden values would convey more fairness then just adding up stuff and presenting you with a incomprehensible sum. It's also my way of giving you some chance to speculate on things and people seemed rather excited when I first did it with Alchemy.

Matlal will most likely explain a bit when you next meet him in the flesh.

We have a dagger, and if we get a wooden surface or bark, we could carve it in.

If there are no planks in the tower, there is an entire forest above us.

I think we're on the wrong side of a large reveal and worry that our ignorance will get us or Xochi hurt, worse we might ruin the loot through poor harvesting technique or touching it with bare hands etc.

And I really want a notebook now spiritsdamnit, watch us end up making a Riddle Diary just because we can't make ink and paper.
