Shadows of the Past

I figure after we nearly exploded trying to fix ourselves so we can save her life, telling her now is going to get us a reaction as positive as it CAN get.
Especially since she SAW the ritual go awry firsthand. Pretending nothing went wrong is only going to make her suspicious

[X] Go down to Xochi.
-[X] Tell her a carefully edited version of the truth.
--[X] "The ritual blew up in my face but.. sort of.. worked. I just need to kill some animals to heal whatever it did to me now, redirect the curse on other creatures."

We lived! I hope anything else we encounter on the way back will not go for our soul? HP.

Meh. It did what it was meant to do.

Things went wrong, yes, which is why we are covered in blood and vomit. We were also in a lot of pain. How's that for drawbacks?

I don't understand the need to tell her. Are we going to take her to the wilds with us when we depart Tlamaca? Why is it important for her to know the details?

That thing about bonding, trust etc. that humans do sometimes.

Because we are looking for companions?
One woman is not a party and one hunter could not have killed that Fleshweaver.

Building trust is important if we want to keep her.

We should tell some of the truth, but not all of it. Be honest, not sincere. But I see no reason why we should go down with blood dripping to explain, we can and should be at least clean enough to work on her as soon as we go down. Besides, a couple minutes with cold water could do well for our mind and emotions right now.

Trust? To end up with an arrow in our throat becuase Xochi will suddenly think we are turning into a spirit spider? She is impulsive, and will likely not want to stick around a half-spirit who could decide she is good nourishment.

You mean the person we patched up, but should by now have noticed that she isn't exactly well?

I fail to see how our not excellent bandaging of her is relevant. We did the ritual to heal ourselves, not Xochi.

Edit: Or the last 'she' references Yaxkin, in which case: What can we be accused of if Xochi cannot into spirits and we just say it partially worked? It obviously didn't succeed fully, but it didn't fail.

If this blows up, remember that she is wounded while we aren't, and so will win in a straight fight. If she doesn't let us patch her up, it is her problem.

I don't want to pretend that nothing went wrong. We can even tell Xochi that we had a sudden craving for raw meat. However, I would like to keep silent about the fact that this is a permanent trait.

So, for example:
[] The ritual worked, but at a cost. I felt a sudden craving for raw meat and I had to go out and hunt. My mind is clear now, so I can properly bandage you and we can leave.

There are no companions we can take with us to Nonotzale.

You can be friends with people and still keep secrets. It's called privacy. It's a thing.

I do not want to talk about sensitive topics like anything related to Matlal or being turned into part-spirit just to build trust with people. Even if she doesn't share views on the spirits that most of Tlamaca does. Even if she means well. She might decide to help us get rid of the affliction and consult a Wise Man (why not? do we also tell her that we killed one?). She might get drunk and tell her drinking companions 'a funny story about a spider chick'. She could do all sorts of things that would not necessarily be malicious, and could still backfire for us.

I suppose I would be able to see the point if we wanted to make her our travelling companion for a meaningful length of time, but we have our obligations to Matlal, and she has her own to her group, so it is very likely we will part ways and it is unknown if we even see each other again.

Where did you get that from? On the contrary, if we start telling people we are part-spirit, we'll get kicked out of the Wise Men's place (or executed becuase they hate spirits) before you can speak its full name.
I interpreted you to want to keep our secret secret from all. Avoiding human contact is a moderately sure way to achieve that goal. I mean, if we don't even want to share it with the person who saved our life and we hers, who fought with us in a life and death battle, with whom are you going to share?

With whom it may concern. :V

Presumably those who could treat this stuff, or those that would be impossible to hide the effects from.

There are plenty of stories about werewolves and vampires living among people. Those are neither hermits, nor do they flaunt their condition for all to see.

This is not even hard to hide, just hunt a rabbit every now and then and you are golden, especially with us being able to travel around a lot. Xochi saved us and we saved her, true. But her delegation will see the Wise Men soon. A single slip of the tongue during the meeting (and the story will likely be brought up, what with us carrying spider legs and all), and we'll be in deep water. And certainly unable to infiltrate the Wise Men as Matlal wanted.

Don't even need to hunt. Buy a live chicken.

Why not?
We really do need people to help us, this game is clearly not designed to allow one character to take down everything he might have to fight, we've seen that several times already.

She is our best bet so far, crazy enough to help us, skilled enough to survive it.

We can ask her not to tell the Wise Men, knowing their stance on anything spirit-related.
