@Spectral Waltz what's determinator I checked the old post and the character sheet in case I missed something and this is the first time that showed up (new trait?)
It's the category that abilities that rely on it fall into.

Basically, anything listed under Determinator is "It works because I am confident/have guts/am doing this for my friends/willpower stuff."

Kind of like how our Teacher has Teacher abilities like the narrative ability to create and teach us new techniques that the audience will accept as plausible.

Kind of how like we can create a Counterspell ability because the audience knows we're Analytical, so we can do Analytical things.

What makes you think it won't be relevant?

No seriously, it sounds like I missed something in the fight we had that demonstrates that traps/circles are not worth investing in.

Granted, it may be more along the lines of "It's a good tactic, but don't rely on it." The first trap worked fine. It was only after repeated usages that the Heroine could power through it.
I think they're thinking that the resistance to our traps, weakening and eventually negating their ability, that she gained from rule of Three and will keep having, is general to all our traps, rather than that one in particular.

Don't know what destined does but I like the sound of it.

I'm on the fence between counterspell and Sherlock scan. Having counterspell in magic-rich world is pretty cool, but Sherlock scan - Create opening - Exploit opening - Piercing shot is great synergy.

I'm also kinda against determinator abilities - they make us too similar to the Hero. She has continuation, she is probably Destined (what Hero isn't?) and whole "fight through injuries on sheer willpower" is MC shtick in anime.

Pretty much. The audience knows that they're useless against anybody who actually matters, which is to say everybody that we'd want to use them on.

Which is why we don't rely on them. Use them sparingly for dramatic moments, rather than as a staple of our strategy. By upgrading them, we can capitalize more on the opportunities they create.

Eh, fair enough. Keep them on hold for a while and they'll regenerate.

I feel that that says something about the way magic works in the setting, but I'm not sure what.

If we ever use our trap spell or similar on the protagonist again, we'll instantly lose our badass analytical status. It would show that we can't adapt and rely on a particular spell too much, especially since we've already spammed it too much in our earlier battle.

You gained that trait by using the Tolerance point to no sell the attack at the end of your fight with the heroine.

The tolerance points don't just allow you to step beyond for a moment. No. If you've done something once, then unless there we're verysecial circumstances, that something becomes an established part of your character.

You spend that tolerance point, you gained the trait necessary to perform the feat in question.

There are a few other uses but a I am on the border of sleep right now, so I will elaborate upon waking.

Not quite. What we shouldn't do, is spam them like we did in the first battle. We could get away with that since it was our first outing, and thus gave a demonstration of our abilities. We also demonstrated that we've got a stubborn streak, giving us a parallel to the headstrong heroine.

This paves the way for us to up the ante so to speak. We've shown we can play smart, now we need to really think tactically against her.

One point I would like to bring up, is that we're aligned in purpose with the heroine, but we have disdain for her lack of finesse/experience. We're here to test her, and force her to improve, not kill her.

l also would not be surprised if either us or her eventually became tsundere to the other.

Destined seems like it could be a really subtle/useful addition to help ensure we stay relevant (and maybe even adding plot of some kind). Although I also really want Sherlock Scan, since I imagine that it would mesh really well with Create Opening, and would allow us to pull of a Last Surprise

Destined seems contrary to our character so far. The initial build is meant to be a smart/tactical fighter, and we only got determined to recover from the flub with our tactics. I feel we should leave the raw power/chosen one abilities to the protagonist and continue down the path we are already on.

Granted, our character has only had one episode to appear in. Maybe two if we ran from the ending of one episode into the beginning of another. Point is, our character is not totally set in stone yet, so we have some wiggle room. It also elaborates on what our character does when our plans fail. Do we retreat to fight another day, or stand our ground and continue to the bitter end?

It may not be a perfect strategy, but then again, we're not the heroine. In the end, we're probably not going to be as good as the heroine eventually gets.

(Also, I'd like to have a name for our sword wielding heroine and our rival MC. I mean, our mentor has a name...)

[X] [Ability] Sherlock Scan(Opportunist)

Choosing this because it's the non-Determinator thing with the most votes. Anything but Determinator please; that's the hero's thing. When you focus on Determinator without having protagonist plot armor, you become Saint Seiya's Dragon Shiryu, who gets horribly injured(and sometimes crippled) in every arc.

[X] [Upgrade] Create Opening (Add-on to 'Find Opening')

Omae wa mou shindeiru.

[X] [Upgrade] Piercing Rune (Add-on to 'Runic shot')

This one seems interesting, though I could be persuaded to switch to something else.

Seriously guys, Determinator is one the most boring thing we could have. If we take it this early then it'll become an integral part of how we operate. If we want it then we should get it later on.

Well, it's a good thing we're not Shiryu then.

Well, we're kinda stuck with it with the vote for when our plan failed the first time. We've already established our behavior in emergencies, and to change it is going to cost audience tolerance.

Also out of the four abilities up for voting, "Destined" is one that seems a bit more flexible (granted, I'm not sure what it does.)

I suppose it comes down to preference. I'm a bit more of a fan of buckling down when things go south. If there's a point worth making, we make sure it is made.

EDIT: Also, your vote is winning at the moment. Relax a little.
