Shounen Fightin' Anime [Shounen Protagonist Quest]

You've always been too tall for your age, and there was a time when that bothered you - but once you found the way of the martial arts, you learned to embrace and glory in your body. You are a tall woman with a wiry build, muscles like cords wrapped around your bones. Your eyes are a piercing blue, and you keep your black hair short for practical purposes. When not fighting, you enjoy the traditional garbs of your village, colorful and long robes or kimonos; but when the hour of the fight comes, you resort to modern sports clothing, always sleeveless - your style's emphasis on rapid hand movements and countering blows tends to get anything covering your arms torn away.

Tall, small, black hair, sleeveless clothes for rapid hand movements...

It can lead to a character who is based if the man, which is more than enough for me.
This isn't exactly shonen anyway- not with the likes of Shiki Tohno and Meliodas as inspirations. Plus, one of the power sources explicitly mentions being Guts-inspired, soo it isn't an impossibility.

Inspiration was more for the specific backgrounds/skills of the listed names, they've got no bearing on the setting at large. Inspiration is just that, and this won't be getting anywhere near close to a gritty seinen like Berserk is. The Guts inspiration isn't directly related to Guts as a character, but rather the nature of his relationship with the Berserk armour and what not later in the series. That's the sort of thing you'd be taking from it, rather than anything else about Guts.

Something as indecisive and wishy washy as 'Betterment' isn't better, tbh. At least with Revenge we have a concrete goal, targets and something to reach for instead of generic self improvement.

It's a traditional Martial Artist background. While yes, I agree with you that it's not a great one on its own, it's fortunately paired with one other. The Parental Figure gives solid goals, relationships and roots itself in the setting.

Revenge, by its very nature affects the tone and themes of the story and the protagonist in a way that I'm frankly not in favour of.

Sidenote: Also you all know you can check the tally without posting it, right? :V

To be honest, my reason for trying to push the Guts vote rather than Omi or Mynx is because the little brother as a character really doesn't interest me much, I would much rather have Darts in his stead.

There's certainly something to be said about this. 'Choose two' is there for a reason, and while ones like Betterment may not be a showstopper as far as main drives are concerned, it can nonetheless work in conjunction with a second drive. When put together, two drives become more than just what they are as individual choices.

Revenge is also a classic martial artist background, and I think I prefer the way it makes a statement about the character to how Betterment doesn't. It means that the character has concrete goals amd plans- like, first I'll find out who did this, then I'll search for them, I'll ask mom to help- or maybe she turns out to be the killer- etc, in a way that Betterment doesn't.

What will we do with betterment, other than fighting and training (which we would have done anyway?) It is the most bland background I could see, and a big reason I'm not going Lynx. I mean, sure a good background can make up for a bad one, but it doesn't excuse that background from being bad.

shrug

I'd much rather have an adorable younger sibling who's our biggest fan than a jerk who's equal to us in ability, so I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

aw yes it looks like guts can win changing my vote back to the awesomeness [X] Plan: Obligatory Guts Expy

Yeah, I like the idea of having a sorta-friendly person who we can partner up with and don't need to worry about protecting much better. The friendly rival is a total classic, and lends itself to all kinds of plots that are at least more action packed than little brother plots.

Like, at least we won't need to worry about protecting them, and they can contribute to fights on our level.

There is this to keep in mind.

[X] To Stand Against Heaven

Heyo, Pangolin, it is I.

I'll go ahead and hop in on here. Omicron's feels like the one with the most moving parts that fits together, paints a cohesive picture, etc. Berserk's fun and all but yeah, I'll throw my hat in there.
