• Actually, general policy: If anyone wants me to walk them through setting up a FamilySearch account, I'm happy to do so. I can also give advice on actually using the site, and if my own abilities aren't up to the task, on finding someone who can.
My standard for really good tragedy is "does it make me want to run around screaming until I fall asleep?"

*The Uchiha Massacre retelling is notable mainly for its focus on how Sasuke loves, trusts, and idolizes his big brother. It's brilliant, and you should read it if you haven't already - it works quite well as a standalone, at least if you're mildly familiar with Naruto. (I don't know how well it would work if you aren't broadly familiar with the massacre - at minimum, I doubt the story would hit as hard.)

*Shadows For Silence (spoilered, since it's a kind-of-obscure and very good short story):
It's largely about the main character's complicated relationship with her dead, extremely tough-as-nails grandmother, and how that informs her relationship with her own children.
    HoratioVonBecker
    HoratioVonBecker
Silence resents her grandma for the extreme measures said grandma used to toughen Silence up, but is also grateful for the toughening, and worried she hasn't done right by her children in raising them much, much more softly. This culminates in one of said children nearly dying, and that scene is one of my favorites in all of literature, as are the scenes following.
Really cool? Watching cleverness and improvisation win the day. Really frustrating? Story is sad because an obvious solution was missed.

(I just spent the last while reading Absolution, loving it, and then wishing the author was on SV because Scrupulosity 3.3 ended on a stupid, unnecessary note.)

(Same reason I left Marked For Death, really, although the context was marginally different - as far as I can tell, the issue was in player-GM communication, not authorial fiat.)

(Overdue update: Apparently, it is on here. Criticism has been given. Hopefully I haven't hurt too many feelings.)
What kind of weapon only weighs one gram?

    Czlyydwr Llrngwl
I suppose it could be the sci-fi classic "needle rifle" round, or a garrote. One gram is pretty dang light, though.

It's what flowed well and fit. And the poison thing works. Thank you for pointing it out, though.

(This was from when my user title was 'a gram of prevention is worth a kiloton of cure', which in retrospect is a very Spacebattles sort of edgy comedy thing...)
Happy new year, everyone. According to a slightly saner calendar, at least. Incidentally, my internet access is limited right now.
I'm not necessarily afraid of any ships, I just have a dislike for the shippers of a specific one. Also the post is referencing a certain rhetoric about Kawoshin.
The post is a reference to NGE fandom. NGE was out from 1996-1997. NGE is older than me and I'm clocking 21 years old, so I think that's a fair estimate for when most people would be out of mandatory schooling.
    HoratioVonBecker
    HoratioVonBecker
Ah. It's certainly an oblique one; I still don't see the link between post and fandom, and I'm reasonably familiar with NGE. (Which ship(s) were you afraid of?)
Checked out your blogspot! Thanks for liking all my posts.

Eh, no worries. My blogspot is kind of old, but there are still things I like there. I no longer agree with everything, though, particularly the links list. So keep that in mind, I suppose.
Hey long time no see, how you doing?

Ah well, remember the Murderhobo RP ShirowShirow made? I have been thinking of reviving it sometime, wondered if you would be interested? Maybe willing to do some brainstorming and stuff?
    HoratioVonBecker
    HoratioVonBecker
Yes, certainly! Actually, once I do a tiny bit more work on my mod of that system, we could use that. I haven't actually playtested it yet, but I /think/ it's sort of stableish.

That sounds interesting, I will add you to the conversation I have opened regarding this. Though I gotta say that I have only just had the idea a short time ago, so not much done yet. Just some ideas for dungeons and stuff.
Without Marked for Death, there's not much for me here. I may check in from time to time; if you want me to talk or restart my Quest, ask.
I bought them. I tend to keep a couple copies around because I like the game that much and want to share it with people who'd care to play it.

I've been interested in Undertale, but haven't seen it for less than 10 USD. Was wondering if you'd found a better deal somewhere.
"If you make it, sure. Tag me."

I mean, I'd love to, but I don't have any idea of starting points from which to launch such a thread. ...Unless I presented it as "here's this comment, I'm trying to figure out what the incentives appear to be vs what they actually are"... hm.
Hello! I'm Hypervene! How are ya?

My mental voice for you sounds so tired! Calm too, like your speaking rhetorically all the time. And not making eye-contact either, for some reason.
... That's a big impression you give, for just a few profile posts. Good job!

How in the seven hells do you look at both?
    HoratioVonBecker
    HoratioVonBecker
Well, I don't try looking in various underworlds, for a start. ;P
Really, you just aim your eyes so their paths cross far behind your target's head, and still focus relatively close. Alternatively, look at the bridge of their nose, but focus your attention on their eyes.
    Hypervene

I had no idea how you do the first one. But the second works, so thanks! When I asked, people said they still felt like I was lookin at them. So, mission success!
    Thanks for the advice bud!
Found a Magical Girl 'name interpreter', and entered a name I came up with ages ago. The results (one category excepted) seem worth sharing:

I mean, really, it's an excellent representative of Spacebattles.
Hey Horatio, I saw you were interested in Murderhobo's RU. ShirowShirow recently made a new thread for it, maybe you want to check it out?
Full moon and June Solstice today. Shouldn't happen again for forty years, and by then, Sufficient Velocity will be long gone. How strange.

Eh? Why would it be gone? 4chans been around for a long while, right?

That forum has been around for twenty, maybe twenty-five years. SV has been around for three and a half, and seems so high-maintenance by comparison that I doubt anyone will keep it running until 2056.
Then again, I didn't really think of reasons when I made that prediction, I was just announcing a hunch.

Not so great, I'm afraid. I keep getting distracted and missing my bedtime, which selfreinforces.
