X-Com 2:A Resistance Town! A riot quest!

[X] Redesigning the college: Do you really need a school for interior design? Clearing out a lot of the unneeded programs to expand the needed ones and expanding the living areas. (300 CP for +50 Science!)

[X]Ammo Stock pile: Everyone has a few magazines at the moment but extra ammo could be spent to enhance training and make soldiers feel a bit better knowing they have more ammo than what is on there person. 10 Points per stock pile

[X]Drone Hunting: Work together with a few spotters, cell phones and rifles to shoot down and collect advent drones. Roll a six sided die (bottom left option on your post after posting it) You gather that much Alien alloy, except on a six you gather 5 A.A and 1 Elerium. (Enough Elerium will open a new tech tree!)

Minimum vote here.Trenches and tools are more important, but elerium jump starts tech.

[x] Better workshop: It takes some heavy equipment to move all of there equipment but putting your workshops together under one roof and attaching some housing can provide a bonus to PP per turn. 250 CP for +50 PP (44 of 200)

More construction power, more infrastructure capability! More!

Still need a roll from you and omakes can help drone hunting too of course!

Journal #10 - Persistence

I haven't actually met or communicated with any of our main Defenders - not really sure who they are, ya know? Just hear bits and pieces; scuttlbutt at town meetings and right now their need for scouting parties. No word on their temperament or even why they're choosing to help us, but we're all fighting for survival so I know that should be enough. Plus with all they're doing I guess "hello" "thanks" or even "Can you help me with this?" is a lot to ask. I guess I could go do that and I will, but I won't do it empty handed. I want them to know I get things done.

They probably care - I mean they are risking their lives and dedicating time toward resources -- so as grumpy-whiney as this is (which is why it's in here and not something I bring up when I talk with others) I'm very grateful. I really am. I don't need to meet them. It'd just be healthier maybe to have some additional inspiration for efforts than this searing, bitter ball of hatred that keeps growing in my belly for our alien menace.

As our main Defenders, they probably are more focused on the threats and helping us collectively, than to think of any one of us individually. Which is what we need. We all see the damned drones whizzing about, scouting as they rip away at our illusion of privacy and attack our peace of mind. We still need so much to hope to survive, fight or defend ourselves in the long game; though we definitely have more than we did yesterday. We are progressing. Some clever folks already figured out better resources and somebody else is into making bullets. The science team is kicking ass - dad would be proud to think some of his students are part of that. I could help make bullets too... and I definitely plan on making all kinds of munitions in the future, but right now I'm thinking ahead.

In the rush of our anger, hitting back hard is important - consuming for some. But what's the use of getting some good rounds off if they counter and "bang!", you're dead because you've got no protection? We need to look out for the Defenders' asses and think in angles even if they can't right now or can't appreciate. We've got to help each other. We only have each other.

So screw it. I'm sticking with protection, for now. Scouting parties - everyone - could use armor too. And if Sally had -

So...too soon.

Enough of this. It's time to get my materials and tools for the day. I've got a lot of sturdy vests to make.

Maya

David Henderson was getting rather annoyed. This was the third time today that he had been forced to abandon trying to add more mines to his lawn. He wasn't sure how the government agents had managed to somehow miss all of the mines on his lawn when they had come for all of his guns, but it wouldn't happen a second time if he had anything to do with it. Getting his homemade mines and shovel back out from the basement the he moved to take cover behind the wall. Poking his head up he moved the blinds slightly to check if the coast was clear, no signs of movement in the sky, not even any clouds to hide behind, good.

Heading back out onto his lawn he began to mine his lawn again, after priming and burying 2 new mines he was once again stopped by the sight of another ADVENT drone on the horizon. "God damn it" he cursed as he ran back into his house with his stuff, he had only managed to add 5 new mines to his lawn today because he had to keep stopping to hide from the spy cameras. It really didn't help that every time he came out of hiding he had to fill in the hole that he had just dug and make a new one to prevent ADVENT from finding his mines. Checking the clock on the wall he realised that he wouldn't have time to add any more mines to his lawn, by the time he would have filled in the hole he had dug in his lawn it would be dark and he wouldn't be able to see if someone was watching him.

Sighing and wiping the sweat from under his tin foil hat he checked the outside once again, if the drone was gone he could at least fill in the brand new hole in his lawn. When he saw that the drone was now actually making a pass down his street he let out a scream of rage. Fucking black and red little spiky thing with a camera underneath. Gritting his teeth he stalked away from the window and grabbed his loaded shotgun. Fuming silently he went out the back door and around his house to see if he could get a clear shot at the infuriating object. Avoiding the mines he came up to the corner of his house and leaned out. The drone was now drifting down the street with its back to him, perfect.

Jumping behind his stone mailbox on the edge of the footpath (one could never know if you were being mailed a bomb) he lined up his shot. A bit further than he would have liked but he could manage. After aiming for a minute or two and waiting for the drone to stop he pulled the trigger. A tremendous bang rang out and the drone began to tumble out of the air. Just before it hit the ground it straightened itself and began to quickly fly away sparking where its camera and antenna were now missing. "Oh no you don't" growled David as he brake cover and ran after the drone firing all the way. It was this strange scene that the people who had appeared to check out the bang saw. A black haired man with a tin foil hat running after a drone while screaming curses and trying to snipe at it with a shotgun.

Two blocks and half a magazine later David finally managed to hit one of the propellers causing the thing to fall out of the sky in front of him. Running over to where it had landed he proceeded to beat the thing with the butt of his gun until it stopped moving. Leaning over to catch his breath he considered his options. He had heard that they were handing out rifles for drones at the local gun range and it would be good to get some long range capabilities back after the government took all the guns he had been unable to hide in the basement in time. So he picked up the pieces of the drone and walked back down towards his house, he would go tomorrow, he had a hole to fill in first.

The owner of the gun range was having a very nice day when he heard the sound of David's armoured truck arrive outside. He liked the man despite his strange habits. He was a good customer, buying bullets every so often and coming once a month to practice his aim. So he was very confused when David stormed in with the fury of a man possessed, in one hand he was holding a motorcycle helmet full of cash and in the other he was holding an ADVENT drone that looked like it had crashed very hard into a light post before someone had gone to town on it with a hole punch. David strode over to the counter with a grimace on his face and slammed the drone down on top of it.

"Payment" he snarled out as he proceeded to empty the motorcycle helmet on top of the drone.

He then grabbed a long-range bolt-action rifle, a scope and many boxes of ammo before heading back out the door and driving off in his truck.

"Umm... What are we supposed to do with that?" asked the shop assistant after David had left

"I don't know either" replied the owner, still staring at where David had left.

David grinned as he dug another hole in his lawn. He wondered why he hadn't thought of this sooner, he could use his new rifle to snipe any drones that got too close and with his new tin foil lined motorcycle helmet they couldn't identify him from far away. He had even managed to get the drone that had slowed him down for several hours this morning, going back and forth over his street, most likely looking for the other drone he had used to pay for his new rifle that now hung over his back. He smiled as he thought of that drone, now sitting in his basement. He would experiment with it later, for now, he had a lawn to mine.

Jane never thought that anyone could ever be as angry as she is right now while making soup, but here she is, about to stab the soup can like it was a god damned alien. It looks like the ever present threat of an attack from Advent was not enough, and now they are sending some kind of red and black... things to spy on them and taunt them, and it was starting to grate her nerves. these freakish robotic pests are recording everything, and that mean that even if jane and her kids would get out of the town, ADVENT would still chase after them. like Tom said, they were stuck here, for the better or worst.

And the worst part of it was that there was a drone watching her right there, as she was making food . why is it watching her?! why would ADVENT care about someone who never held a gun in her life, and is planning to continue that way?! she tried more than one to tell to whoever is watching through those drones that she didn't want anything to do with the resistance, but there was no reaction. she's not some crazy tinfoil-wearing maniac, she just wanted to get on with her life!
so why is she now thinking about different ways to ambush the drones and rip them apart piece by piece?

"so let me get this straight" Tom says over the phone, uncertain if what he hears is true "you want me to be a spotter for you, so that you could call one of your buddies with a hunting rifle while you sneak on it with a hammer to smash it into bits. that's your entire plan." he asks in disbelief
"well, it shouldn't be overly complicated, Tom. multiple people checked them and it looks like there aren't any drones with weapons, so its safe to attack them. And we still want to use the least amount of bulletes, so that's why i'm going to break it with the hammer until it's good and dusted. there plan should work in theory, Tom, you just need to do the spotting"
"i'm just surprised to see you suddenly jumping on the task after you resisted so hardly when i asked to take jack and annie to the workshop. but i'm glad that you finally see that we have to work for this town, for the better or worst. now let's go find someone that can shoot a hunting rifle"

"to your west, closing in to you in 2 minutes, and its floating close to the ground" tim says, tired after a long day of waiting and watching "you know, maybe if we tried to put something that will actually attract their attention, the drones will come to record it instead of just avoiding us?"
"just be quiet and continue looking" jane replies, just as tired "also, you're not the one who had to carry the hammer all of the time"
"relax. you have at least one minute or so until its close enough to shoot. just aim close to the ground and you should be fine"
bang!
the sound of the gunshot echoes down the empty street as the shot hits the drone with enough force to make it twirl in the air. noticing her chance, jane jumps from her cover with her sludgehammer, ready to unleash her frustration on the machine. "fucking spy!" she shouts as she lands the first hit of the hammer, knocking the drone into the ground "leave us alone! we never asked for ADVENT or for a united global goverment or anything!" she hits the broken drone again and again as hard as she can "just let us live in peace!" she smashes the drone one final time, exusted. she picks up what's left from the drone and begins to drag it to Tom

"here's a gift for your damned workshop" Jane says and throws the broken drone to the ground and for a moment thinks about using it as a scarecrow to send a message to ADVENT "let's hope you can make something useful out of it. im going home" she turns and leaves "but if you ever see another drone like that and need help with taking them out, im willing to help." she adds, excited at the idea of taking out another robot. but that will have to wait. first, she needs a real weapon...

Week 2.5
Fuck Advent
Squad three creeps through the forest unable to take their armored cars for large chunks of it. The air is crisp the early morning chill makes everything feel sharp. They eventually see a few camouflaged tents and move closer slowly, carefully on the look out for advent guards or workers. In a flash, a red light flies from a bush and right through the chest of one of the improvised soldiers. Visible light goes both ways though, even as the first casualty drops one of the state patrol has the presence of mind to throw a tear gas grenade. Not likely to disable them in those full helms but the smoke covers the retreat some. The squad dragging on of it's members falls back looking for some trees to drop prone behind. A few more lasers fire hitting only air and a pair more of tear gas grenades are thrown. It's a matter of finding there well camouflaged fox holes before the smoke dissipates or Advent gets lucky.

Shots are traded fairly quickly, lasers wildly burning through trees and shrubbery. Bullets hitting the mark but often doing nothing to the heavy advent armor. The standoff is only broken by the cavalry, two more squads of ex-state patrol coming and giving over whelming fire power. Enough bullets making cracks then shattering the advent armor. Upon one of the advent troopers death there gear and bodies explode in a very small explosion, seeming to be designed to deny you the equipment from the dead more than as a weapon.

With the handful of Advent dead you after to tend to your own wounded and clearly dead. Two are dead before the battle ends holes burned through their bullet proof vest front and back. Six more are injured to one degree or another. They help load and carry each other to the road back into their patrol cars so they can get to the doctor and real medical care. One of those six dies in the back seat, maybe a medic could of stopped it but they are really trained for this even if they do their best.

Getting to the doctor @ReadsByLamplight is able to do great work having written a guide on exactly these types on injuries and stock piled some materials for this situation. The doc manages to save all five of the remainders lives but two of them are crippled beyond fighting any more. A laser through the stomach making quick movement impossible because of scar tissue and nerve damage causing shakes in the hands and arms.

@CommanderBlade: 5 Casualties 3 dead 2 alive but unable to fight. You have to chose between combining them to keep a full strength squad or replacing them with volunteers and taking a large hit to strength and skills.

@Glint: You come into your workshop, the one you are building to so that everyone can work together. Someone is there before you on a ladder, hammering. As you approach it becomes clear that they are hammering three bullet proof vest onto the wall. Holes burned right through them and with splatters of blood stains on them. Presumably from the dead. Written in red above it. "DO BETTER". Later on you will find out not only did the armor fail but if often took several rounds hitting in a tiny area to damage advent armor.

@scientist bros, no one is mad at you (Yet)
