Best to make sure our entire team can pull their weight. This also does allows to keep Hook with us so we can get the buff to Social once we return her home.
.........did everyone get smacked around by the fractorum? Because jeebus those rolls...
I know it was a matter of time with some of the previous rolls but seriously

I'm just relieved the Overworld Events are going well. We really have to work fast if we want to make sure things aren't falling apart by the time we head back.

....who did we leave behind again? Because now im just imagining March 7 somehow being a morale booster with her personality. Or maybe one of the "Responsible Adults"tm. Found somethimg useful
You bend down to the little kid. "Your name is Hook, right?
The little kid nods. "Yup! I'm Pitch Dark Hook, the leader of the Moles, the best underground expiration team this side of the underworld!"
This is going to be a headache.
"Hook, you should know that this is going to be a really dangerous trip, you should go home—"
Hook pouts. "No! You all seem cool, and I wanna be around somebody who can show me something new."
You look back at the entire team. They shrug.
"Alright, we'll just be going over to somewhere with more Fragmentum Corrosion to study, which is…"
"The orphanage," Cocolia says, "there's something I want to show my daughter there as well."
Hook smiles, and starts walking towards the orphanage, as Bronya slowly starts to follow along. Rivet Town
Belobogian Orphanage
The large orphanage is quiet. There are a few black crystals signaling Fragmentum Corrosion, but not enough to take away and research. Some swings and a slide are there, but they haven't been played on by anybody in at least a year.
Of course, you know that isn't the real reason Cocolia wanted you all here.
Cocolia looks up at the sign to the building, which has rusted away. "It looks so much lonelier than I remembered."
Bronya and Pela look at each other, before looking at Cocolia expectantly.
Bronya speaks up. "Mother, what is this place?"
Cocolia starts to speak up, before Serval places a hand on her shoulder. They share a look, and Cocolia takes a deep breath and steps back. Clearly, she was about to say something she might've regretted.
Cocolia's Roll…
98. Stellaron resisted.1 2 more updates until DC increased.
Serval looks at Bronya with an inscrutable stare. "This is the orphanage where your mom was raised. And it's also where you were raised."
As Bronya takes a deep breath at hearing that, Hook gives her a hug. Bronya looks down, and gives Hook a quick headpat, before looking back up.
"…I do think that I remember this place, though it's foggy."
She looks at Cocolia. "Mother, did all the Supreme Guardians come from the Underworld, or…"
As she's about to finish that question, you all hear a rumbling sound. For a second, you think that it's time to duck and cover from an impending earthquake.
You just barely have enough time to roll on the stone floor, as a fireball just barely flies past you and melts the floor.
Was that your trumpet? No, you couldn't have…
Look up, dumbass!
Oh crud. Floating in front of you is a huge Fragmentum monster, and it looks pissed.
They're always pissed, just like I am at your dumbassery. Now get up!
(…please just pretend "dumbassery" is a real word.)
The entire group springs into action. Bronya takes Hook and pushes her backward, before trying to get a good shot with her gun.
[DC 50: Physical Check (Bronya)]
18+20=38. Fail.]
And as she pulls her holographic scope up to aim, the stony monster roars with a thunderous bellow, causing her and everyone else to stagger back. The shot she had loaded fires off into the distance.
Shoot, this is too fast for you to think. You can't even formulate a plan right now like you did back at the Space Station.
Stelle immediately gets in front of Bronya, and puts out her bat in front of her to block the next attack.
"Stelle..!"
Stelle doesn't even turn an inch away from the monster, but you can just hear her grin. "Don't worry, you're Cocolia's daughter, right?"
The monster flings a meteor of molten magma at Stelle, but Stelle just plants her feet, winds up— and swings at the fireball.
She doesn't exactly reflect the now dissipating fireball, but the forward force that she puts into the swing makes her spin through the air. She lands just in front of the monster right before the bat slams into the Fragmentum's face with a satisfying crack.
The thing staggers back, before it bursts into flames.
You blink. "Did we kill it!?"
"I don't think that big thing's done yet!" Hook yells from the back.
The fragmentum's head ignites into flames. Hook's right— as it rears up for another attack, it just sounds and looks angrier.
Well, at least we think it does. It doesn't really have a face to read.
I think the menacing roaring was enough of a cue!
Pela clicks some buttons inside her book (is that a keyboard and console in there?) before sending out four mechanized drones.
"I think we can destroy it by putting out the fires! Serval!"
Serval runs through the chaos and jumps up. As Pela's drones blast the Fragmentum with defense weakening energy, Serval slams her guitar into the firey beast—
And she gets slapped away with nonchalance. The flaming palm that shoved her away also blows away Pela with a spare fireball.
Shoot, this is bad. Everyone's taken decent damage, and your lab coat disguises are half charred.
The Fragmentum's head cracks and snaps over to you. For a split second, you feel a tug in your chest, and you just barely considered pulling the Emanator Release right here and now.
But then, a hand shoves you to the side.
Cocolia yells out a battle cry, as she charges at the Fragmentum at a terrifyingly fast pace, ice lance in hand. Both Serval and Bronya, who are trying to protect themselves and Hook in the back, look horrified. Stelle closes her eyes.
"Cocolia!"
"Mother!"
As the Fragmentum leers its hand back, it tosses a fire meteor the size of your torso at Cocolia. For a second, you think it's over.
And then, in a moment that seems to make the world go in slow motion, Cocolia stares down the meteor…
And jumps straight over it, with an almost inhuman ease. The fireball flies back into the town, making a whole building in the background become charred into molten ashes.
She nonchalantly dodges a follow up claw swing as she lands on the ground, and then with a ton's worth of force, Cocolia slams her lance into the Fragmentum's face.
And she skewers it all the way through. The creature shakes, stiffens, and as Cocolia removes her weapon, drops dead almost instantly.
Cocolia wipes her brow. "…and that one was for Serval."
Stelle stares at Cocolia in awe, as she goes over to whisper next to your ear. "That was ten seconds. It was weakened, but still."
You just sort of slowly nod. She's clearly more than enough of a match for you with Emanator Release on. What she lack in power, she clearly would make up for it in sheer experience.
She's a complete monster while fighting. I'll probably be just as terrified to see Bronya on the battlefield too, once she grows up.
Yeah, just thinking about it puts you a bit in awe. If this is Cocolia when she's middle aged, seeing somebody as strong as her in their prime would be terrifying.
Times like this honestly make you a bit glad you got off Pteruges. Good guns and skills can get you far, but extraordinary amounts of time spent on something and extraordinary powers in combat somehow never cease to amaze you.
Hook seems to think the same. "Wow! THAT WAS SO COOL!"
Hook jumps up to Cocolia, as the Fragmentum corpse disappears into the air. "First you went, like, whoosh! Then, BAM!"
Cocolia laughs, with a levity you actually haven't seen much on her face. "Oh, don't worry, it's just my normal job. Really, though, this should just go to show you why you shouldn't be around in dangerous places such as these…"
…She's honestly really good with children now that you think about it.
As Cocolia says that, she looks around at the town. From the elevated viewpoint of the orphanage, you can see the entirety of what used to be Cocolia's hometown.
And behind her, are the smoldering remnants of her home, the old orphanage.
Cocolia turns to you. "Could you all leave me and Bronya alone for a bit? I think it's about time I had a talk with her. Besides, we need someone to keep watch so that we don't get surprised."
You, Pela, Hook, and Stelle all walk down the stair, leaving Serval, Bronya, and Cocolia to clean up and talk. 5 minutes later…
You and Pela are both cleaning up some Fragmentum down the hill, picking off the monsters from long range using your trumpet and drones respectively. Stelle's just playing hide and seek with Hook to pass the time.
Pela turns to you. "Hey, could you go check on the others for me? I'm worried that they might be arguing."
You nod. "Check on Stelle for me, will you?"
As you get closer to the orphanage, you get behind a wall. You can hear Cocolia and Bronya, while Serval seems to be silently moderating the conversation.
"So, this is the place I was born?"
"Yes. As you know, I was born here as well, so when the time came and the Architects urged me to find a successor, I decided to look here since as you likely know, I'm attracted to—"
"Serval?"
Hearing that, Cocolia coughs, and Serval audibly snorts. "Women. But seeing all this destruction has given me a realization, and if you don't remember me much once you grow up, I hope you remember this one thing."
"…"
Cocolia gestures out to the town, and then points all the way over to the Furnace Core. "All of this. Underworld. Overworld. All of its Belobog. it's your responsibility to Preserve, and even if I failed in that task, I know you can succeed."
Serval chimes in. "You're one of the brightest young ladies that I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I think you can do it."
"…I understand. I'll make you proud."

If you want, of course. Flagrant Disregard is almost done upgrading. Author's Note:
Guess what idiot's back from hiatus! Of course, I imagine my "hiatus" was just the normal amount of time that it takes for an update in other quests. I'm just getting back into the swing of things with shorter updates.
…well, that's what I wanted to say. This update was intended to be 1k, but it got a bit longer.
I do think that with my other quest right now, updates on this quest will get a bit slower. However, I will still try to update this quest at least once every week.
