Something's Off Here...

So the ant people were a race of advanced extraterrestrials, who came to Earth around ~4000 BC, and helped the Hopi, as well as several other ancient american civilizations, survive a huge Coronal Mass Ejection. The Ant people taught their guests food storage, and had planned to help advance them to their levels by roughly 2000 BC. However, a second event caused by a volcanic eruption in the pacific lowered the temperature to a drastic level, forcing the ant people to help their chosen groups again, but shortly afterwords were forced to go into hibernation. Now, after the white sands detonation, the ant people are waking up, and intend to help bring a people \that hasn't really existed in the form it did for five hundred years

Would we still use nuclear power plants
For that matter, what about naturally occurring ones?
However due to White Sands having such odd geological properties, it could be that somehow power generation development gets odd.
Some species of biomechanical monstrosity native to the White Sands biosphere maybe?

Hunt them and once you've removed the fleshy bits from their corpse, one of the organs is basically a fusion reactor which originally served to power the animal's mechanical components.

Of course, this does mean having to fight what is basically a nuclear-powered techno-organic tank first every time you want a reactor, so they'll still probably be pretty rare.

I like Nikola Tesla fluff and I like Sharks.
Tesla - Thank to Tesla's nephew, Yugoslav Federation become Weird-Earth's version of Earth's Japan in technological and cultural influence. Weird-Earth anime become a thing that could flow through power cables in the 1980s.

Shark - The Patron Saint Megalodon is materialized out of nothingness because of increased fear of the sea. Contrary to every human's nightmare, PSM is the friendliest Weird-spawed entity ever. It protects normal sea biospheres from Weird-tainted beasts, although also grants the wishes of sharks. As a consequence, most sharks can now fly and feed off electricity.

The Patron Saint Megalodon
This seems like it could lead to an interesting in-universe religion.
PSM is the friendliest Weird-spawed entity ever.
It gave all sharks superpowers and runs an animal wrongs group? That's the friendliest? What are the deliberately hostile ones like?
As a consequence, most sharks can now fly and feed off electricity.
Artist's impression.

Not animal wrongs group, it 's because the Megalodon grants sharks' wishes, and shark culture also took a Weird turn..
While it might be very nice from the perspective of a shark to be able to enjoy an entirely new habitat and food source, from the perspective of humans, suddenly having to deal with aerial shark attacks when no such thing existed before is a bad thing.

No, too fancy. Don't you like Manet styled sharks?

Nan sharks are pretty chill

No idea what you mean. What are "Manet styled" sharks?

Basically, SCP-1371 is adorable since it consists of a harmless axolotl, but a great white shark with identical powers would be nightmare fuel and reasonable grounds for building antiaircraft guns everywhere.

Hey, you got the art style right this time! That's reasonably close to Manet's style!
What Sharknado did wrong is it didn't show sharks goofing around having fun. All Sharks Are Killing Machines is a Planet Of Hats type misconception!

By the way, check my Flying Heck out if you feel bored any time. It's got a steady supply of weirdness.

So... The sea is protected by megalodon Sharks. The U.S. Navy is out of a job, until the new carriers of the 1970s arrive. Helicarriers.

I'll figure out some of the geopolitics of the 1970s and 80s when I get home from work

There's just one Megalodon, and it's preoccupied with new Weird-spawned life forms.

I made this thread expecting insane geopolitics, a cold war with giant monsters and physics tearing apart, a UN led Umbrella Corp. Security, a truly insane and devastated world.

And I get giant flying sharks with fucking laser beams on their heads that fight for FREEDOM!.

I fucking love this site.

"These last eight years have seen the American Economy expand to new heights. Since the end of the Second World War, we have shown the strength of the free world to the faltering communist one. It is our duty with our bounty to ensure the American Century continues to be bright and prosperous " January 17, 1969, President Richard Nixon's farewell address.

By the late 1960s the Communist Bloc was in tatters, the wasteland of RDS-1 had made shell shock a common occurance in the Soviet Army, as the 6 division containment force. With the rediscovery and disclosure of Tesla's works, the science of the weird became a bit more understandable. From beyond the grave Nikola Tesla must have been smiling as Yugoslavia abandoned Communism and embraced the future. The Yugoslav Federation's joining of NATO began the fracturing of the Warsaw Pact, and continued the remarkable technological progression.

White Sands, and Japan had been contained as best they could but what was new industries. In Texas, another Silicon Valley emerged this one focused around El Paso and the University of Texas Materials Research Division. With Teslatech, and the mining of superconductors, personal electronics and lasers reached the 2010s tech level. In the United States, Electricity was so cheap that many utilities merely charged a flat rate, and TeslaTech allowed radiocommunication compression to make wifi nationwide. President Nixon like his predecessor oversaw the largest economic expansion in American history. The world superpowers were truly the United States and NATO.

In Japan, unlike the Americans they focused on biotech, in fact they first discovered the Megalodon. They reached an accord on shipping rights and gaining the "lore of the depths" and the Emperor and Megalodon meeting was a site to behold. Whatever the Japanese learned, they didn't say, but unlike our world, where Electronics in Japan were boomers, in this world it was the weird biotech. Japanese aquaculture technologies, environmental technologies, and genetic conditioning made them the biotech leaders of the world reaching 2030s tech levels

Europe, was a bit more conservative, while staunchly in NATO's block, beyond Yugoslav Federation and their colonial adventures, they were safe from the "weird" owing to no nuclear detonations. France and the UK could probably build a bomb, but neither saw the point. Ironically the "weirdness" from the nuclear bombs extended the life of their empires. Ghana was... technically independent of the UK, but had to contribute funds to common defense and security. The same continued for most of the Colonies, and decolonization merely led to more anger and revolts as the new "nations" were just colonies under another name. These nations really had no way of militarily winning conflicts not when the colonial powers had Tripod Death Laser Tanks, or Helicarriers, or Walking Battle Drones. For lack of a better term... the Deck that was the world, was stacked in the favor of the Western Powers.

In the Soviet Union, coups were common and the fracturing of the Warsaw Pact was a very real concern. A Soviet destroyer was destroyed by flying shark (very embarassing, although it caused the Pentagon to re-evaluate how to deal with Megalodon.)

In China, Mao's glorious revolution was turning sour.

In Israel, with out nuclear weapons, the Israeli state was under constant threat from its neighbors, who still were rich from Oil although not as rich as our timeline.

Now these nations were desperate for something, anything to balance the table... they were willing to roll the nuclear dice again

I present you with Four nuclear detonations, that need description about what happens. I will leave the ideas to you guys beyond these dates and minor requirements.

March 13, 1971. Soviet Detonation

May 22, 1972. People's Republic of China Detonation. MUST birth Cat Godzilla and fight the United Korean Republic

September 22, 1973. Vela Detonation in the Southern Indian Ocean

May 18, 1974. India,Pakistan or Iran detonation.

The Vela detonation is kind of a mystery. It doesn't really match known nuclear profiles in our timeline as I recall, and it's entirely possible that it may have been something like a bit of antimatter or something, we can't really tell. I know it'll scare the piss out of the Weird Timeline.

You know... I just had an idea for the Vela detonation, AND a way to make it a mystery

It is known that a detonation was detected on September 22, 1973.

Unlike our world, this world knows there was a nuclear detonation.

The mystery? That's it, there is no weirdness, the Vela Detonation is the only nuclear detonation in human history that hasn't sparked any "weirdness" It is by far the most analyzed nuclear detonation, because as far as humanity knows or can determine, no weirdness came out... the only ACTUAL nuclear detonation that went perfectly correct.

Well, in our world we don't know who did it. We're not even really sure if it was nuclear. Which makes your idea all the more paranoia fueling.

Probably just an asteroid impact. Having something crawl out of the blast crater would just clash with the already existing concepts of nuclear-formed new biospheres.

....

Also, weird thought but if nuclear reactions = new biospheres, what does this imply about stars?

Oh God, the stars are alive and have life on them... Suddenly that old/insane theory of ufo's just being energy beings from other worlds makes a lot more sense in this setting.

The Soviet nuclear detonation created strange temporal anomalies. Time within these anomalies can progress much faster or slower than normal. They can be manipulated somewhat with magnetic fields, but it's tricky and may have unintended consequences. Entering or exiting one of these fields requires specialized equipment; otherwise the differences in time flow between one half of your body and the other will kill you. The area is used for all kinds of experimental manufacturing processes. Thousands of workers are sent there each year, but none are ever allowed to leave.

Only known to scientists and top government members is the existence of a group of humanoid, intelligent beings capable of manipulating the fields. It is theorized they evolved during the instant of the detonation inside a hyper-fast time bubble; millennia passing in seconds. They appear as shadows due to absorbing all light that reaches them.

They are only ever seen wandering about, occasionally stopping to analyze human activities but otherwise ignoring all attempts to communicate. In the rare case that one is seen altering a time bubble, the nearby area is immediately evacuated. Due to [REDACTED] anyone attempting to interact with a being is to be shot on sight.

Oh God, the stars are alive and have life on them...
I see a few ways this could play out:

Wan-To's species.
• Individual stars aren't alive. Rather, a pattern is noticed. Sunspots forming specifically in the exact area of one star which is pointed in the direction of another star. Star #1 somehow observes Star #2 and Star #3. If only one of them has sunspots, Star #1 also produces sunspots. And then you have a NAND gate, and technically can build any logical circuit from there. Each of these isn't an independently intelligent sentient being, just a single neuron of one. This is an independently intelligent sentient being.
SCP-1682.
• Pictures related.

When experiments testing the viability of tapping into the quantum vacuum for energy were performed on the Apollo 21 Lab Station, reports devolved into strange ramblings about how their conclusions were inconceivable to human minds. Before all communication ceased, garbled messages were sent to earth from the astronauts about their experiments revealing to them the "howling face of the sun." A rescue crew was violently repulsed from the station by corpses in the astronaut's space suits. Footage of the incident show ghostly images of tormented figures hanging just behind these corpses, struggling, but seemingly unable to pull themselves apart from their decaying bodies.

The accident on the Apollo 21 Lab Station couldn't be contained. Rescue missions sent to the station disaster hurriedly collected the lab's most recent studies of the sun's relations to a quantum vacuum. Unexpectedly the teams broke all protocol and transmitted this data openly and unencrypted. The data was a garbled mess of obscure information and bizarrely outdated language. What could be gleaned from it though were very clear specifications for angles and spectral configurations for viewing specific parts of the sun. Attempts of following these directions using remote viewing from earth through space telescopes ruined the orbital equipment. All other manned orbital stations that attempted it immediately cut off their contact with the earth.

After a prolonged silence the medley of military presences in orbit unleashed themselves unilaterally unto the earth. Orbital kinetic bombardment weapons carved strange symbols across the earth's surface. The attacks on heavily populated areas however were primarily carried out by manned reentry drop-frames: armed suits intended for quick reaction force insertion. Millions of these orbital drop frames blazed through the atmosphere, unfurling into their squat insectoid shapes upon landing. The were covered in hastily painted glyphs. Downed drop frames always proved to have dead pilots hanging limply within.

Their only communications were being piped back and forth between the millions of drop frames: an endless loop of a synthesized voice saying

"Burn a path to earth. Prepare them for the Sun's arrival."

Oh God, the stars are alive and have life on them...
Another possibility, the Sun Krakens from this thread.

Reminds me of SCP-1859. That said, not sure about this. I kind of liked the idea that everything about the soviet nuclear test's biosphere was carpet-bombed and classified so harshly than now basically, Stalin is the only one who actually knows what happened.
