Rules of Engagement (Prototype/MCU)

Most dinosaurs are big so maybe it hit the roof.
1) It's a velociraptor. I don't think they are that tall. The one that FixerUpper referenced when he was answering my question wasn't.
2) That'd probably fall under the "scare a bunch of people cause there's a freaking dinosaur". I mean, I guess it could have just dented it, but it'd seem like it'd actually go through, giving whoever is staying in the room above them one heck of a surprise.

It's a velociraptor with the mind of a cat, it probably scratched at the walls and furniture, and subsequently tore apart the drywall and shredded the upholstery.

Like I said, I'd think Leah could intercept it before it broke anything. She has Super-speed AND Super-agility. Even if it was as quick and small as an arrow she could catch it, considering she can catch those. And she'd have the strength to restrain it, having Super-strength.

It's a funny moment. Stop trying to pick apart the funny moment. :V

A funny moment that lead us to having ~$10 rather than ~$500 (making a guess at security deposit size, towards the small end). Plus, if the QM says that's what happened, I'm fully willing to accept it. Leah should have been able to, but things could have easily just not worked out. I'm just asking to find out.

It was in the update that Dee and Leah lost the safety deposit. So whatever it was that the raptor did, it happened.

Let us, instead of trying to quibble it away, think of some means to earn more money to replace what we've spent.

We're a walking distillery now, I'm guessing people are willing to buy shady beer. we could even experiment with flavouring it.
That seems like it'd take too much time if we want to do anything else. Really, eating people and taking their money seems like our best option. Especially since it seems like we could raid their bank accounts after eating them. It wouldn't exactly be inconspicuous, numerous people disappearing shortly after withdrawing all their money, but hopefully we won't need to do it often.

What happened is we no longer have the security deposit. End of story. The QM didn't detail it probably because you or other players would nitpick to avoid having to lose money, because it offends your min-maxing.
Except, as I also said, I'd accept it. Just because we are both fast enough to catch arrows doesn't mean that no arrow could make it by us uncatched. Events can conspire in an very unfortunate ways. If the QM truely desires to not say how, then they can say themselves. Information simply lacking in the update does not indicate that they would prefer to not disclose it at all.

Well yes. Beyond that though, the really cool part of that skill isn't that we can make alcohol; we can make contagions and such. "Oh Mr. Doctor Guy, you need a sample of SuperTuberculosis so that you can work on a vaccine, but you can't get it to grow outside a host? I can help with that! As long as you have the proper facilities, I can make you as many SuperTuberculosis samples as you need to get your research done."

Course that means we need to find a scientist that we don't think is evil, but I'm sure that we can manage it. After all, Leah and Dee both know that not all people are Good and not all people are Bad; Angry Green Man and Ironman are both scientists, after all, and they're Good. Stands to reason that there might be one or two other Good scientists out there.

Problem is they will be much more suspucios.

Angry Green Man and Ironman are both scientists, after all, and they're Good
I'm pretty sure they don't think they are scientists. Stark is a Engineer, a engineer who explores new areas of science but a engineer all the same, Eternity (who may or may not actually have been Loki) himself labeled Stark as The Engineer. Dr Banner is the proper scientist, but his relation to The Hulk is not public knowledge.
And while not everyone is bad, Scientists have rather firmly been lodged into Dee's mind as such, and I think Leah's recent trauma would make it rather hard for her to trust any scientists.

10. Interlude - Possession
Jessica Jones - New Jersey City

It hurt, lying there in the pit, the red bleeding out of her in shallow, crescent arcs. Above her, breathing evenly, was a boy, maybe ten years old. He was dusky-skinned, and armed with a kitchen knife. South East Asian, but from where exactly, who knew? More to the point, who cared? There'd been a cage match between them. Ten year old with a sharp stick of metal on one end, superstrong freak half again his height and twice his weight on the other in a basement the size of a fucking shoebox.

It had been an unmitigated, one-sided slaughter in favor of the boy.

Good for him.

"Jessica, get up."

Not the boy's voice. Course not. It was his. Always his. She'd gone beyond hating the sound of it and was starting to hate her own name. He was up there by the top of the stairs in his little halo of light, playing judge, spectator and ringside referee in this fucking pointless grudge match.

"Jessica. Are you even trying?"

She hated how her body responded. How she had no say in it.

It tried. It really did. This much blood should have made her hands hot and sticky, but they were cold and trembling and knotted into fists as she heaved upwards. She managed to get up onto her knees before a surge of exhaustion had her sliding back down in a boneless heap. Above them, Kilgrave clucked his tongue.

"Jessica." His voice was soft. Reasonable. Articulate. If you didn't know him, you couldn't hear the disgust and rage buried in there. Wouldn't know that he had ordered her not to sleep since he'd been attacked. He'd been disappointed in her. In her inability to protect him. Thought she'd done it on purpose.

Well, maybe she had. She could hope.

"It's a kid. He's not even allowed to kill you. You should have murdered him."

She was glad she hadn't. The girl - the monster girl - still haunted her nightmares. And not because she'd claimed to eat people.

"Get up, Jessica. Get up and finish him."

"I can't."

"Jessica. You're making me angry."

She shuddered and struggled to rise. Couldn't.

"Alright. That's fine."

She couldn't help feel that dirty, idiotic sense of hope that maybe he'd let her finally rest-

"Kid, cut off all the toes on your right foot. Maybe with a handicap, Jessica will be able to-"

She stood. There wasn't a moment of conscious thought to it: one moment on the ground, the next up. Caught the knife-hand before it could descend. Held it, trembling as the boy went berserk trying to cut off his own toes.

A hand, her other hand, flexed, working its way towards his neck, spasming-

"See, Jessica? See what happens when you try? And kid, shut up."

The child's sudden silence was unnerving, as he continued to proceed, step-by-step into attempting to cut off his own toes. She was growing light-headed, seeing flashes out of the corner of her eyes, but held on grimly. A hand grasped his neck, and she lifted him off the ground and started to squeeze.

"Now, now, don't kill him-" her left hand let go immediately, so violently the boy was left sobbing in near-silent, gasping breaths of pain, " in fact, try to save him if you want to, Jessica. I believe in you. Bethany, Sally, it's Christmas. We'll go shopping. Let's hope Jessica takes her training seriously for once."

"Okay." "Alright."

"Joe. Try to keep anyone from dying. We wouldn't want that, now would we?"

"No, sir."

"Good."

The door to the basement closed, leaving her in the dark with a boy so preternaturally good at martial arts he could kill people with his eyes closed. She'd seen him do it.

And she had to stop him from cutting off his own toes.

Fuck.

For all this stupid pied piper bullshit, Kilgrave didn't like them. Not really. Not beneath the surface. He got bored as easily as he got mad. They all had scars, now. Poor Bethany didn't even have powers, but she had money and she had looks so he'd added her to the 'collection'.

That was what he was calling them now. 'The Collection.' Like some fucking messed up serial killer taxidermist.

She was his first. His favorite. His - 'love.'

Lucky Jessica Jones. Lovely Jessica Jones.

Really starting to hate her name.

Other people called them 'the Little Gods.' The story behind that was worth another ugly laugh or seven. Kilgrave had gotten cheesed off at something - maybe some asshole had smiled at him wrong, maybe he'd had gas, maybe his mommy hadn't given him enough TLC as a toddler - and he had yelled: "I am your God!" and just like that, he'd had a cult. In theory the brainwashing wore off, but in practice, some people were just fucking impressionable and their parents deserved to be rounded up and shot. The certainty that he was their god made it so that the brainwashing was self-perpetuating.

"Joe. Can you help?" she called up, voice a sandpaper rasp.

Beneath her, the boy still struggled, pushing and pulling in sudden jerks that might've taken another person off guard. But the advantage of fighting an eight year old boy whose only power was his incredible skill, was the fact that, once you get past the incredible skill, it's still an eight year old boy you're dealing with. Even delirious with exhaustion and blood loss, once she had a grip on him, it wasn't fucking likely he could make her let go.

Even so, she could imagine that if he was serious, he'd find a way.

"Can't," came the voice wafting back down. Joe was an okay sort. No powers, beyond being some sort of spy. "He ordered me not to. You could break his arms though. It'd stop him."

What a world she lived in. Where 'break the kid's arm' was the most merciful option that she was strongly considering.

Her body wanted to betray her. She didn't let it.

Kilgrave was a smug, pompous, terrifying, rapist piece of shit.

And Jessica Jones?

Well, she was a sad sack of shit too. But she was stubborn. Oh, was she stubborn. She could feel it. His grip on her was loosening. He'd told her to kill the kid maybe ten times.

And the very last time he'd told her to kill him, she had saved him instead.

----

QM Note: Merry Christmas, Jessica Jones.

10. Week 8: Vote Part 2
Vote
This was originally going to go to the bottom of the interlude, but I figure that some of the information is going to get lost in the shuffle so I'm just making a new post.

It's one of my policies to avoid giving out voting options I wouldn't want to write. Frankly, if you flub another investigation roll, I'm going to have difficulty winging it. So, instead of an Investigation Action, there'll be an Event Action. Events change week-by-week though some have a longer window of opportunity than others. Depending on actions you have taken in the past, and actions you take that week, certain events will give you more or less interesting returns.

----

Choose 3 actions for the week. (There is an additional Event vote closer to the bottom)

Mad Dogs

[x] Meet with the Mad Dogs - Unavailable This Week

Bioreactor

[x] Choose a rare microorganism to cultivate
-[x] Where would you find it.

Note: Common microorganisms take a miscellaneous action to cultivate instead of a full action.

Money
You have discovered why humans like money so much and have resolved to make some of your own. Still, it's hard. It's hard and no one understands.

[x] Work Legally

You've seen people with the signs 'will work for money.' Maybe that's how this whole cash in exchange for goods and services thing works???
Gains: Resource dots increase to 2.

[x] Stealing Is Only Wrong Sometimes
Is it wrong to steal money from bad guys? You doubt it! Also, if it is wrong, you don't want to hear it, you're giving these guys enough of a break as is by not eating them.
-[x] Target: write-in target (you are aware of the Cartel, the Irish Mob, the Mob (distinct from the Irish Mob) the Yakuza, the Hand, the Favor and Baskins-Robbins.
Gains: 1d3 dots in resources (maximum increase to 3), weapons, attention from the gangs, chance of attention from government sources. If you rob Baskins-Robbins, replace weapons with 20 biomass in ice cream and replace attention from the gangs with attention from government sources.

[x] Sell Dino-Kitty
What. No.

[x] Extort Beggars
You are frankly not interested in begging. You'd do it if you had to, but you don't have to, so... you're not going to do it! Instead, you'll get other beggars to give money to you! Leah wants to set up some sort of beggar network 'like in Sherlock Holmes', but all you hear is the sweet sound of ka-ching! every time they call you to rescue them.
Gains: 'Homeless Network 1' social skill, 0 to 1 dots in resources, attention from various sources.

[x] Jersey City's New Year's Cage Match
While the main events happen in New York, underground cage matches happen in New Jersey too, and the pot is not to be sneezed at. A cool 50k for the winner, and only the winner. Apparently the pot in New York is - woah, how much???
Gains: Resource dots increase to 3+. Attention from various sources.

[x] New York's New Year's Cage Match

A million dollars?! You're there! You're so there! All you have to do is figure out how to get an invitation because unlike the New Jersey event, this one's invitation-only.
Note: This takes up 2 action slots and obviously cannot be taken co-currently with New Jersey City's New Year Cage Match.
Gains: Resource dots increase to 5. Attention from various sources. Chance of: ???

[x] Sell Lizardman Serum to the Highest Bidder
Apparently this was what Dr. Eric Hope was up to before. He was supposed to mass produce soldiers for some shady group, but you figure that the serum itself is worth something to someone. You might not know who to contact, but surely the Favor could set something up.
Gains: ???

Feed (one action, one sub-action)
[x] Feed on criminals Unavailable this week
-[x] using Leah's method
(QM rolls 1d3 for number of victims, occupations chosen by the random job generator)
[x] using your method Unavailable this week
(QM rolls 2d10 for number of victims, honeypot trap, all thugs, numbers go down if you eat too many of them.)
[x] Feed on ninjas
Someone's been leaving dead ninjas around. It'd be a waste not to eat them, so... (QM rolls 2d8)
[x] Feed on trash
-[x] landfills and such for a full stomach
(QM rolls 1d20, on a 3 and below, someone notices you, number increases upon consecutive feedings)
-[x] dumpsters and such for +70 biomass
(QM rolls 1d20, on a 1, someone notices you, number increases upon consecutive feedings)
[x] Feed on animals
-[x] on small animals
(QM rolls 4d4 for biomass gain - numbers will go down slowly if you hunt too voraciously)
-[x] on large animals
(QM rolls 5d10 for biomass gain - numbers will go down very quickly if you hunt too often)

[ ] Train (using XP and biomass)
-[ ] Choose any number of powers or skills to train so long as you have the requisite XP and biomass

[ ] Develop (without using XP)

-[ ] Choose 1 power or skill. Roll 2d5 to see how much XP is gained. Can pick a power or skill you don't yet have (e.g.: Superstrength) although there must be some sort of justification as to how you got it (example: hunting gorillas and bears). Minimum 10xp necessary to unlock it (you can indicate you're willing to supplement rolled XP with XP reserves). Development of any additional power or skill requires as an additional action slot.

[ ] Miscellaneous Action Slot

-[ ] Any action that would take less than five minutes or can be done simultaneously with other actions (e.g.: asking Leah about her past, buying a hot dog, catching rats, etc.)
-[ ] At your current budget, you can buy 2 biomass worth of food each week instead of having to hunt for it.
-[ ] Limited to two miscellaneous actions right now

----

Choose 1:
[x] [EVENT] Runaway

While wandering around New Jersey searching for the Man in Purple, you notice a familiar smell.
[x] [EVENT] Chance Encounter
An abomination, a ghost, and a mind controller all walk into a...
[x] [EVENT] The Pure Are in Town
You intend to meet with the Hand. Instead, you find the Pure.
[x] [EVENT] The Favor Would Like a Favor
The Favor would appreciate any information you have regarding the Man in Purple.

Jessica's body is building a tolerance to his infection. Soon, girl, soon. Hopefully Damien and Leah will run into this horrific situation soon to save the day. We've still got that revenge to extract, after all.

Little Kevin deserves to be torn to shreds. Not devoured, because Captain knows we don't want that ego in our brain, but mulched. We could even let Jessica do it.

EDIT: Hell, yes.

Definitely want to do one of those. The latter is almost assuredly going to get us more attention, but it's also a lot more money, AND we might get to meet SPIDERMAN. However, it also takes up 2 of our 3 actions, and we need to fill up our biomass again. I thought it'd have filled up to full even after we increased the size, since we spent a whole action on it.

Eh, we can do it since Develop doesn't take any biomass.
[x] New York's New Year's Cage Match
[X] Develop with XP
-[X] Superdurability 1
[x] [EVENT] Runaway

I'm currently choosing Runaway to get us another buddy, and it should let us find The Purple Man fairly easily. Could be convinced into doing Chance Encounter, since that puts us in the bar with him.

I think I missed about half a dozen questions while writing the latest interlude and figuring out how to make the event system work (I don't think it does, but at this point, I threw my hands up and went welp). Poke me again, please, if you have a question. All I caught was the security deposit question while I was internally debating whether UPDATE FIRST was more important, or QUESTIONS was more important.

Update won out. :V

But I want to know WHAT happened.

You know how some people are scared of spiders?

@FixerUpper Does the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum count as common? It causes a type of food poisoning. However, said food poisoning is from the worlds deadliest toxin. There is usually extremely little in the food, that's why people USUALLY don't die, however if you cultivate it you can easily get enough to kill a TON of people, assuming you got a way to get the toxin into people's bodies.
Fun fact, it's what is used in Botox.

So, would this not be an acceptable vote?

On the topic, how big is our Reactor? Could we fit it in our pocket-dimension, to pretty much remove any danger of it being broken?
