[9] [HEAL] (starts at 10/20 EXP)
[9] Stay with Mami and Madoka...
-[9] Tell Madoka more about your history-that-never-was, though relatively briefly. Try to work through the story while keeping your emotions in check.
--[9] "It's... it's what I wished for. When I transferred into your school, Madoka... you said I should try to be as cool as my name, but I couldn't. I was... I was pathetic. Then, when I was... The two of you saved me from a witch. Mami was the cool, kind senpai, the sort who makes you feel like someday you might be like her, and she'll help you get there, and Madoka was... the first friend I ever really
had. I was the normal girl who was friends with magical girls, with
heroes, and I'd never been happier. Except then... then Walpurgisnacht arrived, and everyone else... Mami had already died, and then Madoka told me that she was
happy she became a magical girl, because it meant she was able to save
me, and then she fought it and... and... and when I found... that's when I made my wish, that I could go back and have the power to protect you, the way you protected me, no matter what."
--[9] "Except I'm not a very
good magical girl. I can do a lot of things, but I don't have any of the stuff normal magical girls have automatically. I don't have a weapon, I don't know how to fight, I'm weak and slow.. I've been a magical girl for maybe two weeks, and I've... I died twice already, and I can't even beat
one witch without-- I thought I knew how this witch was dangerous, because last time there were fumes that caused Sayaka--"
-[9] Shake your head, and apologize -- it's been a trying night for everyone, and here you are, focusing on the bad. You might be completely useless in a fight, but you can summon things. You can be helpful. So... you'll be helpful.
-[7] Offer to help them with their homework. You can summon the textbooks and the answer keys for the assignments, to help them. Or even for them to copy from, if they want.
--[7] If they don't want to do homework, then have snacks and tea, and light conversation.
-[1] Consider and discuss what you three did well against ROBERTA and GOTZ, and what could be improved? What could you do next against swarming familiars? What about flying familiars? It was unlucky it was both this time, but not unlikely it'll repeat at some point. Then there's ROBERTA to think on. She was flying far away. You have two ranged fighters (M&M), and two close range fighters (you and Sayaka). How can the latter participate when it's only ranged enemies? What if the next witch is the other way around, only brawling familiars and witch? Mami is a veteran, but neither you, nor Madoka, nor Sayaka have that distinction.
--[1] If they don't want to revisit the fight because it still hurts or other reasons, then have snacks and tea, and light conversation. Maybe some homework? You'll have to do it either way, and misery loves company, not to mention the added benefit of doing homework together. If push comes to shove, You
can cheat by summoning answers, but let's hamper our brains more than necessary. Studying
does train INT, whereas cheating… doesn't.

[9] Before everyone heads out for the night, investigate the cost and efficacy of summoning a "Potion to ensure peaceful sleep" for each of you. If it's viable, summon one for each of you. Today was
bad, and if you can't protect them in a fight, then at least you can protect them from bad dreams.
[9] Promise Mami that you'll get her the potions of mana tomorrow afternoon. It's only a few hours of brewing, and... you'll try to figure out something to deal with the taste.
[1] Let Madoka know that you want to check her hand at a later date to make sure there are no unexpected side effects, and that hunting witches is not advised for a couple of days in order to avoid causing stress that might damage the connection to the hand. Then apologize for acting so like a doctor.

"Oh," says Madoka softly. She looks at her hands, the new one clasped in the old one, the two of them nearly indistinguishable. "Thank you for saving me, this time, Homura-san."
Once the first secret is told, they just keep coming, a flood of words rushing past the dam of your mouth. "There's... there's no need to thank me, Madoka-san, it's... it's what I
wished for, this power." And then you're off on your tale. Your first meeting, the
first first meeting when you transferred into Mitakihara Middle School so long ago, when Madoka rescued you from the overly friendly, curious girls at your desk. That time she said your name was cool, and you wanted to live up to it - the resolution broken in ten minutes when the math question made you cry. How pathetic you were, and then...
"We really did?" says Madoka, blushing pink with vicarious pride in a past her. "I - I'm glad..."
"Ah, but you're praising us too much," says Mami self-deprecatingly, "and praising yourself too little, Homura-san."
"I'm
not," you insist. "I was pathetic, it's the truth, but you... Mami-san was our cool and kind senpai, and -"
"Too much, too much!" says Mami, laughing, "Madoka-san was the one who truly saved you, I'm sure."
"I don't know," you say, "it doesn't matter who killed the Witch, but that it was Mami-san and Madoka-san who saved me. We really felt that we could be like you one day, and... Madoka-san was the first friend I ever really
had. So I was the normal girl, but all my friends were magical girls, and heroes, and I was never happier." You stop, and pause. "And then Walpurgisnacht arrived."
"Walpurgisnacht?" says Madoka, pronouncing the unfamiliar term slowly. "What's that?"
"A giant Witch," says Mami, "and very powerful. Most Witches have to hide themselves in barriers and labyrinths, and Puellae Magi must hunt them down. But a Walpurgisnacht is so strong and so dangerous that they can roam without barriers."
"It came," you say, acutely aware of the paleness in your face. You wrap your fingers around the teacup to not tremble, lock your knees under you to not shake, and grit your teeth so your voice doesn't tremble. Remain calm, remain calm, you've told this story before. "It... it
killed Mami," you all but whisper, hardly able to look at Mami because your eyes are glued to the tea-cup. "And I," but you cannot bear to tell Madoka the true extent of your pathetic self. The you who would have abandoned Mami, abandoned Mitakihara, abandoned everything for your safety and Madoka's, not even in a whisper. "I... Madoka-san told me that she was happy.
Happy she had made her Wish, because it let her save
me."
"I -," says Madoka-san, but she's pale too. "Mami-san -"
Mami nods. She's heard this story before, after all. [1]
"And then she went into battle," beautifully, gracefully, powerfully, vainly, "and... and," and if you couldn't speak Mami's death except in a whisper, your voice completely falters when you come to Madoka's, and you find that your self-control does not yet extend to your tears, which spill hotly down your cheeks. "And s-so I m-made my Wish," you choke. "To g-go back, f-for the power to p-protect you the way y-you p-protected -
meeeeee-"
Mami collects you in her arms, your tears soaking into her shirt. "Homura-san," she says. "It's okay. It's okay. We're here, it's okay."
"W-we'll be fine this time," says Madoka, "with Homura-san we'll be fine, won't we?"
"We will," says Mami, patting your back, her voice firm in contrast to the gentleness of her hand. "We'll be fine, we have Homura-san with us."
You subside into Mami. She keeps saying that. If she believes it… it has to be true, doesn't it? She believes in you? Even after ROBERTA?
