You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special.
The World is a violent and brutal place, filled with monsters,
Bandits and unspeakable horrors
That will kill you without a second thought.
You are not The Chosen One, nor are you leading a band of Chosen Ones
You're not great and powerful, you are just a man leading men from contract to contract.
You cannot kill the evil that has cloaked your world in darkness.
You cannot bring the dawn into this nightmarish hell
Not unless you work for it, and You are wiling to Sacrafice Everything.

The Schwarlands, Little more than plains and rolling hills, with the Empire of the Schwlands existing in name only, with small cities and castles dotting the few places of safety in a world infested by bandits, greenskins, and monsters.

It was a world that died and carried on like it was the festering undead, and the humans who still lived just carried on, accepting their hellish fate.

And with a dead world, it meant that outside the relative safety of the hamlets, villages and castle fortresses, the world was controlled by nature and the beasts that roamed it.

That included the mercenary companies that traveled from town to town, city to city, battle to battle. Risking life and limb for fortune, honor, and fame.

The reasons they venture out in the world are different, and no two mercenary are completely alike.

But in the world where all hope seems to die with the setting sun, and the monsters that crawl out from the dirt… These companies are hope.

That may be one day, men and women and children can travel from one corner of the world to another, without fear of the beasts that may hunt them if they wander too far.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of these mercenaries included you.

What is your name?
[]Write in

You had a goal in mind…

[]Restore the Light: In the stories, your grandfather told you, there was a great war for the continued survival of mankind, where all the magic in the world was used to seal away the darkness. And it failed. There is no magic left… but you still have steel and resolve to complete what your ancestors couldn't

[]Wealth and Glory: Mercenary work is a hard life. But it is a rewarding one. If you survive long enough, the wealth you'd have would set you for life. The problem is, surviving long enough to make use of that fortune, and not become a cripple because of it.

[]Exploring the World: The world is vast and massive, and you want to see it all. Maybe there is a place that is free of monsters and evil.

[]Revenge: You want to get revenge on the noble who murdered your father. The Black bannered lord who stormed your home and murdered your father because of outstanding debts.

[]Write in.

After a time, you waited until the next company came to your town, and offered your services to them.

[]A company on Hard times: This company has been struck with plague after plague, with many of their veterans retiring. Now their recruiting, and now, you've been pressed in. (Hard Economic difficulty)

[] Nothing, This Company Was Founded By You: You could not wait for another company to take you in, you left on your own, with a spear and shield in hand, to seek adventure and fortune (Insanity Economic difficulty)

Part 2: The Weapons, and State of the World
Part 2

Iaban… is not a place for the faint hearted. When the world died, all civilization died with it. The great empires that sprawled the continent were now in ruin. Their peoples confined to walled cities and towns to protect them from the ever increasing horde of darkness that lay beyond it.

Where every man, woman and child is trained in a weapon, to make a last stand against the darkness, as the only champions of light.

Like all of your fellows, you were trained to wield a weapon of death and destruction.

What Weapon do you wield?:

[]The Spear and Shield: The Weapons of Kings and Peasants alike, a sharpened metal point on the end of a well carved stick, with a wooden shield to protect you from damage from archers and other melee attackers. (Your Spear and Shield Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You can Learn to Wield a Pike or Lance on Horseback if you train the equestrian skills. You are incapable of using ranged weapons. If on horseback, and/or armored enough, you can disguise yourself as a nobleman, and enter jousting tournaments for the company.)

[]The Sword and Shield: The weapons of a knight on horseback, a man at arms on the ground, or a nobleman who fought on the battlefield. This is the weapon that grants men knighthood, and the weapon where you can lose your head. (Your Sword and Shield Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You can learn how to wield a greatsword, or Zweihander. You cannot learn how to use a spear. If on horseback, and/or armored enough, you can disguise yourself as a nobleman, and enter melee tournaments for the company.)

[]The Zweihander: The largest combat sword on the continent, standing at over five feet and over 6 pounds of weight, this weapon is a killing machine if it makes contact with armor, or skin. A sign of high society, it's usage is only for the most skilled swordsman, or strongest men. But mastering has taken a lifetime, and with such a large and specialized weapon, you have little time to learn any other. (You start off with a Zweihander stat of 75, and you cannot be trained in any other weapon besides swordsmanship. If Armored enough, you will be considered a nobleman, and can enter melee tournaments for the company)

[]The Bow and Arrow: The Weapon of Hunters and Soldiers alike. They say a well trained archer can hit a fly in the air at twenty yards, but you never believed that story. However, this weapon is feared by all, and respected by all who wield it. (Your Archer Stat are at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as a crossbowmen. You can join Archery tournaments for the company even if you are not of noble birth.)

[]The Crossbow: The Peasants Weapon. It does not need the decades of training an archer has for his bow, but it requires skill to master. (Your Crossbow Stat is at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as an Archer. Will not be allowed to participate in tournaments.)

[]A Beastmaster: You are unlike any other man. You fight your battles not with steel but with your companions, two grey wolves you tamed as pups, and your pack of dogs that you raised since you were a child. Most men do not fear soldiers in plate armor. They do fear a back of angry wolves that hunger for human flesh. (Your Beast Handling Stat is at 100 (The maximum level). You cannot be trained as an Equestrian. Any Animal that your company comes across can now be trained by you.)

[]The Alchemist: You are a man of Science, of human rationality... of ingenuity. You can craft potions from ingredients that most men would not even consider... and poisons that can kill anything in one drop. (Your Alchemy Stat is at 100 (The maximum level), with your Dagger Stat set to 50. You can craft potions that can grant Huge buffs to your company, and you can also coat your companies weapons in poison that can kill almost anything, if you have the ingredients for it.

Unfortunately, the State of the world is still in ruin since the collapse, and the loss of magic. But what State is it truely in, according to the stories from Travelers:

[]The World Rebuilds: The World is still shaken by the collapse, but Merdia, and her dark forces are so weak from the sudden forceful lose of magic, that they retreated from our world. Not banished, but for a time, there is peace, and the ability to rebuild from such devastation, and prepare to fight back. (East World Difficulty, For those that want to fight easy battles, more against nature, and bandits, than the forces of Darkness.)

[]The Noble Houses Prepare for War: Even after all Mankind has been through, men with power will always order other men to fight and die for them. Their Lands, with Soldiers being mustered, are now awash with chaos, as bandits and rebellious lord's raid the countryside. There is gold to be had here, Gold and death. (Normal Difficulty. The Nobles Prepare for bloody battle, where you can be the decider of the fate of the Schwarlands)

[]Greenskins attack from the North!: Hydroporia was once a prosperous land, now overrun by the greenskins. Refugees from the north tell tales of barbarity, and savagery, where children are eaten and cooked alive, where women are torn apart, and men are nothing more than gladiators fighting for survival, every day. And they are marching south. (Hard Difficulty: The Greenskin Horde is marching south. Numerous, and inhumanly Strong, they are capable of smashing all in their way, if they are not prepared. Save mankind, and destroy the greenskins forever.)

[]The Darkness Grips the World: Merdia has won. The Darkness has consumed the world, and her damned followers travel the countryside, converting or murdering all who would do not follow her murderous orders. Magic is gone, and the world has died. The world has died, and any man who do not follow Merdia shall be beset upon by misfortune and death. Inhuman monsters roam the world, and all of mankind are just cattle for her demons to feed. Any man who leaves is considered a madman. But not you, not while you draw Breath. b(Insanity Difficulty: "You can save the world, but how much are you willing to sacrifice to do it?")

The Grey Wolves March 1, Day 1 To Springdorm
The Grey Wolves March 1, Day 1 To Springdorm

The Road got boring after the third day of marching. It was dirt, dust, and gravel, with the trees of cedar and pine alongside it. The column was two by two, going down the line to the end to the baggage wagon carrying supplies and the equipment

"Alright lads, keep it up, we've got a long road ahead to Springdorm!" The captain shouted. "And I don't fucking care how tired you are, we're marching straight there."

You nodded, moving your helmet back slightly, taking in the scenery of nature before you looked back to the three dogs that were beside you. "Dan, Jon, Mal, come on." You stated to the three large hounds.

The three dogs quickly went to your side and went to a diamond formation around you.

"Oi, new blood." You turned to see Boss was speaking to you. "Get over here boy."

You quickly moved up the marching column and saw Boss. The man's sole eye made him look like a cyclone, the black patch that was covered by a brown piece of cloth gave him the appearance of a leathery face that was scratched and patched together with stitches.

"Aye boss." You said the words quietly as you looked at Boss. "What do you need?"

That mad Boss snort. "What I need is an ale that doesn't taste like piss." His statement felt stiff. "The Captain knows you've just joined the company, but he knows for a fact that without your dogs, your shit in a fight."

"I know that sir." You replied.

There was a grin, showing the jagged and broken teeth of the man. "Aye… you should know." He then took a deep breath. "We hired you for your fucking dogs, and if you could train them whenever we got more, so they can harras the enemy so they cannot escape. Fortunately, you can become useful."

You gulped before you nodded. "Aye, sir. I hope I can be."

"Good. FRITZ!" He shouted for the frontliner. The young man with ashen hair, grey eyes and pale skin beneath his heavy armor, the same age as you if you had to guess, stopped allowing the column to march past him until he reached you and the Boss.

"Aye Boss?" He said quietly, his voice sounding hoarse.

"Beastmaster here is behind you in line, he is your responsibility. You eat with him, you protect him on the line, you watch him shit if you have too. You just need to keep him alive while he trains and becomes useful."

"Aye boss." Fritz seems dismissive, but it may have just been his voice.

The Boss nodded. "Back of the column with you." He ordered. "And make sure those fucking dogs are kept close to you. We don't have the coin to replace them yet."

You nodded. "Aye boss."

At the back of the column, you and Fritz looked at each other for a moment. "So new blood, where do you come from?"

"Dawn Hurst." You replied.

"Good town… fucked a nice lass there, blonde hair, silver eyes." Fritz began to laugh. "She was a screamer that one."

The thought of the girl made you feel a bit jealous. "You fuck every girl who opens her legs for you?" You asked.

"Only if they're pretty." Fritz replied.

"What about you, where do you come from?" You asked.

"WinterWilde." Fritz replied.

"The Imperial Capital?" You asked.

That made Fritz Scoff. "Heh! There are fifteen imperial capitals claiming to have the next emperor. I stopped giving a fuck after I joined the company. No shut up and march."

You did.

Road Side Roll:1D100 => 91

A Good thing has happened.

Jon ran off into the woods. "JON!" You shouted, following your dog into the woods.

"Oi, fuck!" Fritz shouted, running after you. The heavy armor making him much slower than you. The entire column stopped and watched you run into the woods.

You reached Jon standing over a dead wolf, torn apart. "Bloody hell." You said quietly as you examined the wolf.

It was a grey one, and a massive one at that, it was as large as a horse. And a female one with puppies sucking on it's tits.

"Oi, new blood, what the-" Fritz became silent. "Oh fuck."

"Grab the pups." You ordered.

Reward: +4 Wolf Puppies. In five marches, they will be grown enough to fight.

The Grey Wolves March 1, Day 2 To Springdorm.

- [x] Train Crossbow: Rolled:
1D100 => 88 Skill up by: 1D10 => 5

The night you set up a target, one of the bales of hay for the horses when the company traveled through dry lands during winter. The winter was still a few moons away, but there was never such a thing as being to cautious.

As you practice, you seemed to gather a crowd.

Fritz smiled. "Don't fuck up new blood." The words were as encouraging as they were useful, as to say, they were fucking useless.

Kai, the Ranger, said something much more useful. "Squeeze the trigger slowly, and push the stock into your shoulder to keep accuracy, and before you fire hold your breath."

You took aim at the bal of hay. You followed Kai's advice, and fired.

It missed, shooting wide and striking the ground.

"Fuck!" You shouted.

The crowd dissipated, and coins traded hands.

But you got better. A little bit.

Reward: Inventory gained: 10 Crossbow Bolts, Crossbow. Crossbow skill up by 5.

- [x]Train Your Dogs: You need to make sure your dogs are in top shape. Rolled:
1D100 => 86

Your dogs were good… very good at the game of war.

They bare their teeth when asked, follow your commands even though the loud screams of the Captain's marching songs, and the hustle and bustle of camp.

They were perfect enough for battle, as long as they stuck together.

Reward: Dogs stats learned. Stats set at 80.

Jon:
Teeth (Damage per Attack):80
Pack (Teamwork between dogs):80
Intelligence (Ability to Dodge Attacks):80

Dan:
Teeth (Damage per Attack):80
Pack (Teamwork between dogs):80
Intelligence (Ability to Dodge Attacks):80

Mal:
Teeth (Damage per Attack):80
Pack (Teamwork between dogs):80
Intelligence (Ability to Dodge Attacks):80

Wolves Roll:
1D100 => 5

You saw the butchered corpses of the wolves you had gathered earlier in the day. "You killed them?" You asked.

"Aye." The Captain said.

"Why?" You asked.

The captain gave you a glare. "Whatever killed their mother is taking their scent. If we take them with us, we'll all be fucked." Your confused look made the old man sighs in weariness. "They were left alive as bait. And we might be lucky enough for it to lose the scent."

"What is hunting us sir?"

"Wyverns." The Captain replied. "But thankfully, not the dangerous kinds. And maybe, we can outrun it."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Road Side roll:
1D100 => 2

"Wyverns!" Kai shouted, as the company ran to a formation.

The forest erupted and the roar pierced the air.

Wyvern Composition Roll:
1D3 => 1

There were two Wyvren's , but the beasts were injured, very heavily, the green blood were exiting large wounds from their bodies.

But they were still massive, the size of two horses.

They were babies, but that did not mean they could not kill you all.

"FORMATION!" The Captain bellowed.

You took up the formation next to Fritz, at the left end of the line.

Your dogs barked like mad, their mouths foaming with saliva.

Shields locked, spears and swords were at the ready, andLeon blew the Horn.

The Grey Wolves were ready for battle.

Battle Begins!

Two Wyverns are 300 meters away and closing.

The Grey Wolves are in Shieldwall formation, with the Liners and Zweihanders in front and archers, the sargent, Captain, and You are in the back line, directly behind the line.

What do you do? (Due to not leading or commanding the company, you cannot directly order people around and all orders given will automatically be followed.):

[]Hold onto The Dogs: The Captain hasn't asked you to release them yet.

[]Take Aim with your Crossbow: You need to steady your aim.

[]Hold onto Fritz: Fritz looks terrified, a reassuring hand may steady him.

[]Listen to the Captains speech: Damn the man can speak.

AN: I warned you that this was insanity difficulty.
