Shell - First Layer


The innermost layer of the Shell, housing the greatest and fastest computing systems in the Congruity. Projects being resolved in this layer tend to be highly advanced, theoretical and experimental. Practical work is rare, as thoughtforms residing within this layer tend to be somewhat detached from society, which can provide odd results.

Current project : Entropy Studies


A question that has been pondered by thousands of civilizations. Can entropy be reversed, or is a heat death inevitable?

Even with our expansive knowledge of warp physics, dark matter dynamics and high energy quantum physics, we do not know the answer, or even where to look for it? The field of Entropy Studies does not seek to find a solution to Entropy. It merely tries to gather information just to figure out what questions should be asked about entropy, so that we may be able to find the answers that tell us what questions we should ask.

Mainly, it involves high detail simulation of simplified hypothetical universes, within which our thoughtforms then try to solve entropy. The most promising universe has just entered it's third recursion.

This research project seeks to figure out what exactly the hyperlanes are, why the exist and if they can change, and how?

While psychohistory has been applied correctly on limited scales (and in fact, is essential to resolve timelag issues within the consensus) a universal theory has never been formulated. Shell-Second Layer

The intermediate layer of the Shell, housing a considerable number of Congruity thoughtforms. Located between the inner and outer layer, the Second layer finds itself performing the function a bridge between the two, translating the highly theoretical results of the First layer into practical results.

Project Completed : Ascension Induction Protocols

Though we have long understood how to digitize the signals and reactions that can be found within the Elassi brain, the ascension process is far more complex than that. Life as a metalform or a thoughtform is an entirely new way of living, with entirely new limitations, strengths and dangers. The ability to directly improve one's brain seems wondrous too many (and in fact, is among the most important discoveries made in Elassi history) but without proper care, it is easy for someone to tear their own mind apart even while making on the slightest changes.

In past, we resolved this with restrictions, lengthy lectures and cleaning up after those who failed and destroyed themselves. A faster, more secure option is too simply inject the required knowledge directly into the mind state of the newly ascended. Doing so without destabilizing said mind state was a challenge, but one which we have overcome.

Though we do not understand the specifics of the jumpdrive, we possess sufficient data to begin the construction of prototype vessels. This research project aims to create an entire class of prototype fast jump couriers, which can be used to support our fleet and as testing vehicles.

Though we possess the knowledge to construct gateways, they do posses certain enormous flaws. Primary among them is their enormous size, their inability to filter incoming and outcoming traffic and their grand resource costs. This project aims to resolve those issues, scaling down gateways and isolating them on our own secure network.

-[][Second]Deep Space Survey

Traditionally, exploration has followed the hyperlane network, but the vast majority of the universe does not appear to be connected to the hyperlanes. A survey of deep space near our systems could reveal potentially interesting results, even if reaching those stars may take decades or even centuries.

While we use nanotech in factories and laboratories, most nanotechnology is far too fragile to be utilized outside these closely controlled environments. Adaptive and resilient nanotech can be developed, and could have enormous practical benefits.

Shell-Third Layer


The outermost layer of the Shell, the current boundary between it and the universe. Housing the greatest numbers of thoughtforms, it's research duties are mainly involved in figuring out how deploy various technologies to the Congruity at large.

It has taken many years, but the third and largest of the 3 layers of Shell has finally been completed. With the new installation now operational, research and resources can move towards other topics.

The cultural codexes of nearby civilizations is already extensive, but presents only the presence. If we gather historical data, it's possible to make a limited model of their society and figure out why they think certain thoughts.

The second layer has recently perfected ascension induction technology, which will render transfer into thoughtforms a much safer procedure by directly implanting the correct knowledge inside the mindstate of every newly ascended person. Implementing it could have serious benefits.

The Elassi Congruity is not particularly involved in interstellar economies. Or technology is highly advanced and therefore enormously desired, but such technology can cause devastation in the wrong hands. Implementing protocols that allow us to prevent reverse engineering and remotely control any of our technology could have benefits, though it may cause severe recrimations if it's discovered.

Planetary mining operations are efficient, but not efficient enough. With extremely high energy applications, we can mine and extract mineral much faster, though collateral damage upon the planets being extracted from is sadly unavoidable.

Practical nanotech sounds like steps toward rugged, Supreme Commander industry to me, I'm all for it.

Try to find useful sites in deep space, figure out how to get to them and then exploit the hell out of any that aren't strictly useful as they are.
