[X] Call Mystic Pizza and ask them what to do. Surely, they'll have some idea of how to get out of this.

...also this quest is triggering my desire to talk in-depth about the Pizza industry and how everybody except Domino's Malaysia is doing it wrong :V

Situations like the one above are also why we insist for cash on delivery :V

Day Two IV or It Lives
Sorry about that, life happened, I tore my trapezius and then finals happened about a week later, and I just didn't know where to go with this. Fortunately, I now do, so I'm bringing this back as my 2000th post on SV.

[x] Call Mystic Pizza and ask them what to do. Surely, they'll have some idea of how to get out of this.

You call Mystic Pizza as you stand back from the corpse. It takes what feels like an eternity, but you manage to navigate the phone tree, and eventually someone picks up.

"You've reached Mystic Pizza, what's the nature of your pizza-related emergency?" Cass says, without any sign of interest in her voice.

"Hey, Cass. It's Natasha. I just accidentally killed a guy after he wouldn't pay up, and the police are coming. What should I do?"

"Think you can get out of there before they arrive?"

"I'm on the thirtieth floor, so no."

"Then just wait there. You're wearing the jacket right?"

"Yeah."

"Great then you probably won't get shot." Cass says.

"That's not very helpful."

"We pay them to not shoot our people."

"What if they shoot?"

"I happen."

After that, she gives you advice to not move the corpse, and you wait there for the Police. You're sitting, four or five feet from the corpse, slumped up against a wall that costs more than anything you could possibly ever afford twice over when the police arrive maybe five minutes later.

They are the usual beat cops, in their body armor, balaclavas, and aviators, and two detectives. The older, bald detective in the tan sack coat ends up talking to the rent boy, while the beat cops star recording the scene. The younger detective, a woman in a power suit ineffectually hiding a holster for a surprisingly large pistol for her size, ends up informing you that you have to come down to the station to give a statement.

By your phone's clock, it's been two hours since you killed the guy. You've been stewing in the interrogation room at the station for what feels like an eternity when the door opens.

>What do you tell them? (Open Answer)

Day Two V - End
[X] Factual narration of event.

It's the younger, female detective who comes in, carrying a wrapped up burrito and a voice recorder. After she sits down across from you, she unwraps the burrito, and starts the recorder.

Before she can speak, there's another knock at the door, and an Asian man in a uniform walks in. "Detective Ruiz, you're working for the BI now. This is an international incident." He says, while looking pointedly at you.

Ruiz speaks. "What do you mean an international incident. I mean yeah, the vic was from the FS, but that's nothing special."

"The 'vic' was 'Doctor' Hank Hare, a televangelist. He broadcasts from a church outside Atlanta, and has a lot of influence with the FS government, and who could control Flynt. And the only people who are witnesses to his death are a delivery boy, and the male prostitute he hired. Also, there's like fifty grams of coke missing from the room according to the Rent Boy."

"Oh." Ruiz says, "We're fucked."

You raise your hand. "I'm actually a girl."

The man and Ruiz both shoot you an angry look.

"Can I just give my statement already?" You reply. "I want to go to the shop, get my dinner and go home. It's like 2am."

"Fine, give your goddamned statement." The man says, as he pulls out a different recorder. "Go."

"So, I was delivering a pizza to this expensive hotel room, which isn't that weird. I mean I've done this for two days, and I've delivered to porn stars, dealers and schools, so it wasn't that odd. Just swanky." You say. "So, I deliver it, and the dead guy started giving me shit for being late when we don't have a thirty minute guarantee. I sucked it up, and I handed the rent boy the pizza while he paid. He faked paying, so I hung around and beat on the door until he came out to pay up."

"And then what happened?" Said the man.

"He came out angry, and tried to punch me." You reply. "I did a judo throw I picked up at school, and got him in a basic hold. And then he just died right under me, and I just saw it, like his soul or whatever was just gone. It was self defense."

"What do you mean by that?" The man said, "Are you a magician?"

"I guess." You said, "Doctor Rivken said that I was yesterday, and I can kinda see stuff. Like a how one guy working for USF is just a racoon in disguise." You don't really get a response to that, just some stunned silence and quiet cursing from behind the glass.

After that, they decide there's not really much reason to charge you, so they eventually end up just remanding you into Miriam's custody.
--
On your way out of the station, you see the detectives and the man in the uniform break out a bottle of scotch. It's just after sunrise. They're going to have a hell of a day.

Miriam meets you in the lobby of the police station, having apparently rushed there after the police called her. "So kiddo, guess who's taking time off?" She asks, as she hands you a cup of coffee.

"I am?"

"Got it in one." Miriam says. "Leena is annoyed, I'm really pissed, and Civic Center is furious that I have a mage working at Mystic Pizza, but I already took the liberty of registering you today."

"How?"

"Leena forged your signature, and we just filled out your paperwork for you." Miriam replied. "Here's your ID card by the way."

You accept the card. "Thank you." You reply awkwardly, not really knowing how to respond.

"Now, I'm going to take you home, and you're going to have a lovely day off, and you won't start anything or I'll kill you." Miriam replies. "Unless you want me to just drop you off somewhere to save the trolley fare."

>What do you want to do now that you have a day off?
>You can go anywhere, or do anything in San Francisco. Wanna get some clothes? You can do that. Wanna try and make some money on a side hustle? You can do that. Seriously, just like think of anything you'd want to do, and you can probably do it.

[X] Question why this is such a big deal. How does a botched Pizza delivery turn into a diplomatic incident
- [X] Text Constanze for an unbiased serious answer on HOW this is bad. She did warn you about Leena and Miriam, maybe there was a reason.
- [X] Search for Second job, since there might be a chance you might be canned from your current one.

[X] Shop for books or flashdrives, clearly you are REALLY out of your depth and need to do some learning.

Man, half the fun of this is just seeing how dysfunctional I can make Natasha, and how weird the setting can get before you all check out.

[X] Go to Constanze's place to see if she has any work for us.

After all, she did offer to employ us, and we could use a second job. Even if it is as a cam girl.

-[X] Search for some work on the day of your suspension. Bills and all
-[X] Maybe if you can also find time to visit Mary and see how she's settling in.
-[:V] "Do you know what pornography is?"

General consensus seems to be exploring the city and finding some random job. Well, we can see how different the world is maybe?

Actually, does Natasha still hang out with any of her old war buddies at all?

Just Mary. Everyone else from her old unit either went elsewhere, is dead, or both. Her classmates from the program are scattered around though.

Well, we'd be a poor war buddy if we didn't pop around and get drunk reminisce on old times.

:V

Vote's been edited.

And Mary has a brother, yes? He didn't pop up in the timeline as part of the child soldier gang so I assume he didn't serve alongside Natasha and the others. So he's probably helping Mary acclimate to normal life.

Other useful details I - Mary and Nat

Mary has a son. If you do the math, she would have been pregnant when the two of you were pretty much sold to a charity that helps child soldiers acclimatize to civilian life. You're also roommates, and she's sleeping with your other roommate. It's probably not just her still being in survival mode and trying to protect the three of you.

Neither of you has any other remaining family left that you know of, thanks to SHF. Which isn't hard since between that, and the decades long war in the Midwest, probably about eighty million people died in the US from the start to the end of the war (and the plus/minus on that is pretty big since no one was really keeping track.)

I don't think this might've come across that well, but like take your average war in the Congo or Liberia and toss the Black Death in, and that's about the situation you two went through.

See, this is what happens when you're up at an ungodly hour, running on fumes and think it's a great idea to skim over that wall of text and then post like you know everything.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to run out into the night with a tin pot on my head and a spatula in my hand.
