Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
AGI Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's speed and evasion by 10%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times, with a maximum increase of 50%.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
Ailment
An abnormal condition that positively or negatively affects combat ability. Ailments are divided into "temporary" and "chronic" types, which partially indicates their severity but most importantly denotes how they can be treated. If a target belongs to a certain family, it may be immune to select ailments.
Temporary ailments can be treated immediately, but they will also fade with the passing of turns in battle. This duration can be dependent on a set number of turns or by hitting a set threshold of success during rolls.
Chronic ailments will linger throughout (and sometimes even after) battles until they are treated.
Attack Class
Much like how magic is divided into one of eight various elements, physical attacks have characteristics of their own based on how one attacks. There are four Attack Classes:
Slash: cutting or slicing with an sharp-edged weapon such as a sword
Smash: crushing or pulverizing with brute force by using things like one's own fists or a hammer
Thrust: stabbing or lunging forth with a pointed weapon such as a lance or rapier
Pierce: perforating or puncturing with projectiles fired from a gun or bow
Enemies are strong against and/or weak to Attack Classes in varying degrees, in addition to elements. Any weapon's proficiency in an Attack Class is measured by stars, up to a maximum of five.
Attribute Value
Each Memory Gem has a set Attribute Value determined by its type and the Volatile Data it holds. This serves as a way for CPUs to quickly determine which parameters are being improved by their current setup of installed Gems, but when a Data Link has a select combination of Attribute Values, a CPU will gain access to a specific Bifrost Magic skill.
B
Berserk
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's physical attack power by 50% but also halves evasion and physical defense power simultaneously. The target will also act on its own, ignoring the orders or suggestions of others in favor of relentlessly attacking in a frenzied rage.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in pacifying berserk targets can immediately remove this ailment.
Bifrost Magic
Available only through certain combinations of Attribute Values, these are exclusive magical skills in a class all their own due to their power and rarity. Unfortunately, as they can only be accessed through the use of Data Links, no Bifrost Magic can be saved as Non-Volatile Data, so only the most arcane of CPUs will be able to discover and use them.
Blind
A temporary ailment that halves the afflicted target's accuracy and evasion. Targets that lack anything resembling eyes cannot be blinded.
Treatment: There is a [16-20] chance that the blindness will wear off the first turn after it is inflicted. Each subsequent turn will increase the threshold of success by 1. Items or skills specializing in curing blindness can immediately remove this ailment.
Burn
A chronic ailment that halves the afflicted target's physical attack power and inflicts a set amount of damage (1/16 of the target's max HP) each turn. Inorganic-type and Machine-type targets cannot be burned.
Treatment: Cold water and ice can soothe the burn and prevent the set damage effect, but items or skills specializing in curing burns are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
Business Club
A culture club at Gamicademi High School, this club's purpose is to bring together economically-savvy students and learn the ins and outs of managing a profitable and successful business. One way they do this is by opening and operating their own shops and stalls both on and off-campus. The former is one of the only two ways products can be legally bought and sold at Gamicademi due to the strict regulations set by the Disciplinary Committee.
Current Known Members:
C
Charm
A temporary ailment that causes the afflicted target to betray its allies and aid its enemies instead. The target may attack its friends, or use restorative and stat-boosting skills on the enemy.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing charm can immediately remove this ailment.
Chill
Basic Ice-elemental magic. Freeze an object, whether it's dust in the air or a giant Dogoo.
Costs: 30 MP per icicle, 60-300 MP to directly freeze one object (larger objects require more ice to be made). Requires 8 MB to save.
[Frostbite chance: 1-2, +1 to success threshold per turn spent frozen; icicles guaranteed to pierce unarmored, unshielded targets]
Confuse
A temporary ailment that causes the afflicted target to attack friend or foe indiscriminately, including using physical or magical skills. The target also might just run away from battle. There is a [1-10] chance that the target will attack an ally on its own, and a [11-20] chance that the target will attack a foe on its own.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing confusion can immediately remove this ailment.
Crystal Prestige User
As far as I can tell, this must be the term this dimension uses to identify what you call "Magical Girls".
In Noire's case, she uses a gemstone known as a Sharicite Core, which was given to her by something called the Grand Sharicite.
D
Data Link
A dedicated connection between Memory Ports, these are created with the use of Shares. When two Ports share a Data Link, they will work in unison and be able to draw out more power from installed Memory Gems. The creation of Data Links becomes more expensive as the number of linked Ports grows, and the arrangment of Data Links can also alter a CPU's fighting style over time as she adapts to her new abilities. Undesired Data Links can be broken through a process called "Link Break", after which the Shares that were used to make the now-broken Data Link will be given back for the CPU to use again.
Data Links also allow Attribute Values to be stacked, eventually unlocking a CPU's access to Bifrost Magic.
Discharge
Basic Lightning-elemental magic. Channel an electric current into something else.
Cost: 180 MP per bolt. A constant charge costs 45 MP per turn. Requires 8 MB to save.
[Chance of canceling target's next action: 16-20; Nerve damage chance: 1-4]
Disciplinary Committee
This Gamicademi High School club was set up by a group of four individuals to regulate order to the student body and administer justice to rulebreakers. Since its creation, the club has quickly undergone a meteoric rise in power and influence to the point where they nearly rule the whole school with an iron fist. The four—and only—members of the Disciplinary Committee have such control over their peers that no one else knows their real names beyond a single initial; collectively, most students refer to them as "Gold Third".
Current Known Members:
Dispersed Share
Like shining light through a triangular prism to reveal the colors of the rainbow, Shares can be "split" through a dedicated process to create a new Dispersed Share that emphasizes a specific aspect or emotion.
There are seven known kinds of Dispersed Shares, each corresponding to an attribute and color matching that of a Memory Gem:
- Passion—Strength (red)
- Determination—Vitality (orange)
- Focus—Intelligence (blue)
- Serenity—Mentality (green)
- Cheer—Agility (yellow)
- Intuition—Technique (aqua)
- Belief—Luck (purple)
Compared to the number of standard Shares, Gems can be created with far fewer matching Dispersed Shares, allowing a savvy CPU to create Gems at a reduced cost. However, I must warn you that the process of combining Dispersed Shares back into normal Shares is rather costly, so please be smart about dispersing Shares! \['д'];/
Dizzy
A temporary ailment that prevents the afflicted target from moving or acting at all. Any damage taken by the target is automatically a critical hit.
Treatment: There is a [11-20] chance that the dizziness will wear off the first turn after it is inflicted. Each subsequent turn will increase the threshold of success by 2. Items or skills specializing in curing dizziness can immediately remove this ailment.
Dream Dust
Neutral magic. Shake off a sleep-inducing powder from your wings.
Cost: 30 MP per turn. Requires 16 MB to save.
[Sleep chance: 9-20]
E
Element
All magical skills belong to one of eight elements, which symbolize their nature. The list of elements is as follows:
- Neutral
- Fire
- Ice
- Lightning
- Wind
- Earth
- Light
- Darkness
Much like how enemies can be resistant and/or weak to Attack Classes, elemental resistances and weaknesses should be noted as often as possible.
Enervate
A chronic ailment that halves the afflicted target's magical attack power and drains a set amount of MP (1/16 of the afflicted target's max MP) each turn.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing enervation are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
EXE Drive
This is the term applied to extremely powerful techniques or "super-moves". An EXE Drive can only be used after its user has at least 100 Skill Points (SP), but at the cost of all accumulated SP. EXE Drives will achieve the Overclock effect if the user performs them when they have 200 SP, which temporarily unlocks additional power and effects for that EXE Drive. Like Skills, EXE Drives are unique to an individual.
F
Fencing Club
A sports club at Gamicademi High School. Club members practice swordsmanship, competing with each other and other schools in one-on-one duels with either foils, epées, or sabers.
Current Known Members:
Fireball
Basic Fire-elemental magic. Toss a condensed fiery orb.
Cost: 60 MP per fireball. Can be charged for 60 MP per turn, but larger fireballs carry a bigger risk of starting fires. Requires 8 MB to save.
[Burn chance: 1-2, +2 to successful threshold per turn spent charging]
Forget
A temporary ailment that halves the afflicted target's magical defense power and prevents the target from using any magical skills.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing forgetfulness can immediately remove this ailment.
Freeze
A temporary ailment that prevents something from moving and/or acting, depending on what is immobilized. It could be a limb, a piece of machinery, or an entire body.
Treatment: There is a natural [16-20] chance of the afflicted target melting or breaking through the ice each turn, and a [1-2] chance that the targeted area will suffer frostbite if it is biological in nature. Items, skills, or high temperatures can immediately remove this ailment.
Frostbite
A chronic ailment caused by extreme freezing that halves the afflicted target's physical attack power and inflicts a set amount of damage (1/16 of the target's max HP) each turn. Inorganic-type and Machine-type targets cannot suffer frostbite.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing frostbite are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
Terms that start with letters "G" through "M" go here! \[*`-'*]v
G
Gale
Basic Wind-elemental magic. Create a sharp, forceful burst of wind with a mighty flap of your wings.
Cost: 90 MP per wind-burst. Requires 8 MB to save.
[Kamaitachi chance: 1-3]
Grand Sharicite
A giant floating, supposedly sapient crystal that granted Noire the ability to transform and use magic through the use of the Sharicite Core.
No other information available.
H
Heal
A temporary ailment that regenerates 1/16 of the afflicted target's max HP each turn for up to eight turns.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing positive ailments can immediately remove this ailment.
Heat Sink Barrier
Also known as "HSB", this is a defensive Crystal Prestige User ability that is active as long as the CPU has Magical Power. This enhanced durability serves as an invisible magical barrier which wraps around the CPU's entire body and will unconsciously protect her from many attacks or environmental hazards. It is not without flaws though, and can be overcome through sheer, overwhelming brute force, or by focusing enough power into a small enough area to pierce through the barrier.
As the CPU is hit, the Heat Sink Barrier will consume MP to safely disperse the harmful force. If there is not much power behind the attack, a small amount of MP will be used; if it is more dangerous, more MP will be required. If the HSB fails to completely protect against an attack, both it and the CPU will take damage. Once the CPU has run out of MP, she will be forced to rely on the defenses her own bodysuit provides to ward off attacks until she regenerates MP to make the HSB active again.
CPUs can divert the normally uniform density of the Heat Sink Barrier into higher, denser concentrations over specific parts of their bodies to reduce the cost of MP and risk of HSB failure. This is a conscious effort on the part of the CPU, preventing her from focusing on casting magic, and exposes the barrier to the visible spectrum, while also leaving other parts of the barrier much thinner and more vulnerable.
A general rule of thumb is that more magically-inclined CPUs have weaker Heat Sink Barriers but more MP and/or a higher MP regeneration rate to compensate, and vice versa. This is not always the case, however.
I
INT Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's magical attack power by 10% and magical defense power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
INT Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's magical attack power by 10% and magical defense power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
K
Kamaitachi
Also known as "razor wind", this phenomenon occurs when a current of wind or sound is focused to a very thin point, as if the air itself is as sharp as a sword's cutting edge. This anomaly is normally only possible with the use of magic.
L
Link Break
This is a process in which a CPU may sever a Data Link connecting Memory Ports. Any Shares that were used to make the Link will be refunded.
LUK Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's evasion by 5% and thresholds of success during rolls by 1. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 25% and 5, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
LUK Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's evasion by 5% and thresholds of success during rolls by 1. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 25% and 5, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
M
Magic
This is a world of Magical Girls, so it is to be expected that magic is a part of this world as well.
At this time, it seems there are eight "elements" of magic: Fire, Ice, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark, and Neutral.
I shall list each magical skill within the guide as they become known to me.
Magical Bulk
Known as "MB" for short, this is the space within a Sharicite Core's Non-Volatile Data that a magical skill takes when it is hard-written or "saved" to it. Each magical skill has a set amount of MB based on power and utility.
Magical Power
Known as "MP" for short, this is the raw magical potential available to a CPU. Without it, a CPU cannot use magic or keep her Heat Sink Barrier active. By drawing in ambient energy, MP will slowly regenerate at a set rate per turn, the rate itself varying between CPUs.
Memory Gem
Memory Gems are small gemstones created from Shares. Memory Gems (Gems for short) and Shares are alike in the sense that they are both crystallized objects, but while Shares take shape from faith, gratitude and belief, Gems are instead centered around "data" in the same way game discs, cards, and cartridges are. Memory Gems come in seven different colors with each hue embodying a specific attribute:
- Strength (STR)—boosts physical attack power with a small bonus to accuracy
- Vitality (VIT)—boosts physical defense power and stamina; you'll stay standing longer in the face of injury and adversity
- Intelligence (INT)—boosts magical attack power and max MP with a small bonus to magical defense power
- Mentality (MEN)—boosts magical defense power and MP regen rate with a small bonus to magical attack power
- Agility (AGI)—boosts speed and evasion; get enough speed and you'll get to attack more than once per turn!
- Technique (TEC)—boosts accuracy with a small boost to physical attack power; get enough accuracy and you might find yourself making more critical hits!
- Luck (LUK)—boosts your chances of favorable outcomes during rolls with a small bonus to evasion
CPUs can send a specific number of Shares, known as a Memory Gem Plan, to the Grand Sharicite, and it will give them a Memory Gem as a sort of "reward". In addition, due to the plethora of CPUs in the region, dropped or hidden Gems are scattered all around the city as well
By "installing" Gems into their Sharicite Cores, CPUs can draw power from them to use new magical skills and improve their own abilities. This capability can be improved through the investment of Proficiency Points, but only up to a certain limit determined by each Gem.
Memory Gem Plan
The shorthand term being "Plan", a Memory Gem Plan is a recipe of sorts, and shows how many Shares are needed to create a specific Memory Gem. Much like Gems, Memory Gem Plans can be found in various places, or in the hands of greedy opponents.
Memory Port
Known otherwise as "Ports", Memory Ports are specialized sections within a Sharicite Core where a CPU can install a Memory Gem. They are created through the use of Shares, and multiple Ports can be made in one Sharicite Core. Memory Ports can work better in unison and draw out more power from Gems if they are connected by a Data Link. Shares can also be used to upgrade or "level up" a Port, which will allow it to handle more powerful Gems and for more Proficiency Points to be invested at a time.
MEN Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's magical defense power by 10% and magical attack power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
MEN Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's magical defense power by 10% and magical attack power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
Terms that start with letters "N" through "T" go here! \[*`-'*]v
N
Nerve Damage
A chronic ailment that halves the afflicted target's speed. There is a natural [1-4] chance of preventing the target from moving and/or acting per turn.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in healing nerve damage are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
Non-Volatile Data
Once a Memory Gem has enough Proficiency Points invested into it, some of its Volatile Data will be "hard-written" or copied directly into the Sharicite Core. This Non-Volatile Data can then be accessed at any time, regardless of whether or not its original Memory Gem is installed.
O
Occlude
Basic Dark-elemental magic. Ensnare even shadows in a blanket of darkness.
Cost: 160 MP per turn spent casting. Area of effect will increase each turn spent casting. Requires 8 MB.
[Terrify chance: 1-3]
P
Petrify
A chronic ailment that prevents the afflicted target from moving or acting at all. There is a [1-6] chance that any damage taken will instead defeat the target instantly. Inorganic monsters cannot be petrified.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in curing petrification are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
Poison
A chronic ailment that inflicts a set amount of damage (1/16 of the afflicted target's max HP) each turn through the corrosion of a target's biological systems or structural integrity.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in purging poison are the only way to effectively remove this ailment during combat.
Proficiency Points
As a CPU becomes more experienced through combat and performing other tasks, she will accrue Proficiency Points, or "PP". These can used to improve a Memory Gem's Volatile Data through a process called "investment", resulting in increased parameter boosts and the creation of Non-Volatile Data. The number of Proficiency Points that can be invested is dependent on several factors:
- The current level of a Memory Port
- The number of PP that has already been invested into a Memory Gem, as its "PP cap" is the absolute limit
- How much time has passed since the last investment (one day is required for a Memory Port to fully "process" an investment)
Purify
Basic Light-elemental magic. Surround a target with rays of purging light.
Cost: 160 MP to cast eight rays of light, 280 to cast sixteen, 320 to cast the maximum of 22 rays of light. Requires 8 MB to save.
[Blind chance: 1-2, +6 to successful threshold if target is hit in the eyes]
R
Relieve
Neutral magic. Heal minor injuries quickly with concentrated magical energy.
Cost: 60 MP per turn spent casting. Requires 16 MB to save.
Rock Crush
Basic Earth-elemental magic. Condense dust and dirt into hard, heavy stone.
Cost: 30-300 MP to create a stone (boulder-sized stones require more material and MP to make). Requires 8 MB to save.
[Dizzy chance: 1-4, +6 to successful threshold if target is hit in the head]
S
Seal
A temporary ailment that prevents the afflicted target from using any physical skills.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing seals can immediately remove this ailment.
Share
Shares are tiny, octahedral crystals that reflect a different color from every angle, and are visible only to CPUs and those that are aware of their existence. They are created from the faith and gratitude of the people, and are a invaluable source of power to those who know how to tap into their power. Through a certain process known as "dispersal", the energy of Shares can be split into more defined aspects or emotions, and creates special Dispersed Shares.
Sharicite Core
Seemingly ordinary gemstones, these unique jewels are the source of a CPU's magical power. Without one, she cannot transform or use magic. Through the creation and leveling up of Memory Ports, the installation of Memory Gems, and the investment of Proficiency Points, a Sharicite Core and its CPU will grow more powerful.
Skill
Also known as physical skills. Skills differ from Magic in that they are unique to the individual; barring monsters, no two individuals may have the exact same Skill. Some Skills allow their users to unleash multiple hits in quick succession, inflict increased damage, or provide support. Skills require Skill Points (SP) in order to be used.
Sleep
A temporary ailment that prevents the afflicted target from moving or acting at all. Any damage taken by the target is automatically a critical hit.
Treatment: There is a [15-20] chance that the target will wake up in response to a small noise each turn said noise is made. Louder noises will increase this chance, while stealth bonuses will reduce this chance. If the target is attacked, the chance of waking up is guaranteed. Items or skills specializing in awakening targets can also immediately remove this ailment.
STR Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's physical attack power by 10% and accuracy by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
STR Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's physical attack power by 10% and accuracy by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
Student Council (Gamicademi)
Nearly every school has a student council, and Gamicademi High School is no exception. Formed to teach students about democracy and leadership, the Student Council has risen and waned in authority as members come and go, but after Vert become Student Council President, its popularity has reached a peak it hasn't enjoyed in years, for better or worse. The only club that can currently match it in terms of dominance has been the Disciplinary Committee.
Current Known Members:
T
TEC Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's accuracy by 10% and physical attack power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
TEC Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's accuracy by 10% and physical attack power by 5%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 50% and 25%, respectively.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
Terror
A temporary ailment that halves the afflicted target's attack and defense power, both physical and magical. There is a natural [1-5] chance of sheer fear preventing the target from moving and/or acting per turn.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in pacifying terrified targets can immediately remove this ailment.
Trait
Everyone has their own personality, quirks, and idiosyncracies. For the sake of this guide, I will refer to these as Traits. Traits will alter how one proceeds through life, for good or bad. But a person does not stay the same forever, and so new Traits may be added, or existing Traits may change or vanish over time.
Terms that start with letters "U" through "Z" go here! \[*`-'*]v
V
Virus
A temporary ailment that infects Machine-type targets' systems, inflicting either Berserk, Blind, Confuse, Charm, Dizzy, Forget, Seal, or Sleep at random as the afflicted target's systems reboot over the course of one turn. CPU-type targets can also be affected, as the virus will instead prevent the target from using or regenerating MP, preventing the usage of any magical skills or other benefits (such as a CPU's Heat Sink Barrier or ability to fly). Non-CPU and non-Machine targets cannot be infected with this kind of virus.
Treatment: Machine-type targets will automatically have this ailment replaced one turn later by one of the eight other ailments previously listed. As for CPU-type targets, items or skills specializing in the purging of viruses can immediately remove this ailment.
VIT Down
A temporary ailment that decreases the afflicted target's physical defense power by 10%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum decrease of 50%.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat debuffs can immediately remove this ailment.
VIT Up
A temporary ailment that increases the afflicted target's physical defense power by 10%. This effect can be stacked up to four additional times with a maximum increase of 50%.
Treatment: Items or skills specializing in removing stat buffs can immediately remove this ailment.
Volatile Data
When a Memory Gem is installed into a Sharicite Core's Memory Port, it will share what is known as Volatile Data and grant altered abilities and new magical skills to the CPU who installs it. Proficiency Points can be invested to ultimately improve Volatile Data and copy magical skills over to the Sharicite Core as Non-Volatile Data, but the remaining Volatile Data cannot be saved over and will remain with the Memory Gem.
