Lessons of a Bygone Age (Dark Souls Civilization Builder Quest)

Watcher of Flame
[X] You stayed, guarding the flames and waiting for the others to arrive.

You retreated from the fire, feeling a sense of something flow into you as you did. You were changing, the soul you had absorbed invigorating you, your hunched back straightening, your gait becoming more certain. There was so much knowledge to ponder or peruse but if you left the fire unattended, what then? Would the other flames be claimed by whatever other beings happened to pass by?

No, as much as it irked you to not immediately start tugging at those tantalizing threads your newfound knowledge dangled before your mind's eye you felt as though you had a duty of sorts here. As the first to become more, it was yours to watch for others who might do the same, and judge them.

In truth... It was strange to think of yourself as so much when mere hours ago you would hardly have been distinguishable from any other, especially when the power that had changed you was more accident of chance than anything else, but still, you are more now, it would be foolishness to deny it.

[] You are small, smooth-skinned, and furless. In a long-forgotten eon your appearance would have been called 'human'.

[] You are partially humanoid, but there are other traits as well. One of the many variants that the citizens of previous ages might have called 'beastkin'.

[] You are hunched and vaguely humanoid, yet with almost-vestigial wings that sprout from your shoulderblades and a whip-like tail sprouting from your rear. Something like what might once have been called a 'drake'.

[] You are bone wrapped in ephemeral 'flesh', one of the last 'dead' to still walk the land through the long age of grey.

Note: Appearances and impressions are not fixed, these are merely the starting points for what you will become.

As you stood at the edge of the blaze, you watched. Close enough to feel the heat, yet far enough that you no longer needed to defend yourself against it. Such was living, was it not? Being [alive] meant that you could one day experience [death]. A troublesome state to be sure... You could no longer approach the Flame without shielding yourself from it somehow, your magic could do that of course, but such efforts were taxing to say the least, and so rather than expend that power, you waited at a safe distance.

You pondered on the powers you now wielded, and solidified your understanding of the basics of sorcery with careful exercises while you waited, but all too soon the time was up, and you saw a shadow on the horizon.

[] A sinuous body with a great misshapen head atop it, one of the eternal serpents come to investigate the changes that have been set in motion.

[] A small cluster of dead-eyed wyverns slowly clawing their way towards the flames on all fours like beasts, their wings too savaged to simply fly, yet struggling on regardless.

[] A snakelike thing, not inhuman, but not human either, crawling on its belly with one grasping hand outstretched, as though it could snatch the soul from here.

[] A pitiful hollow, not quite unlike yourself, stumbling towards the flame with a swaying gait...

It's just not Dark Souls if you aren't playing as something vaguely dead.

Weird. Is this a thing I should know, or is just some mass of dragon like things? Either way it's gross and awesome.

It could be a hivemind/shared souls deal akin to the Farron's Undead Legion.

Honestly it's a tough call between this and the beastkin choice.

Really no clue what to pick for this choice.

Not closing, just checking the tally~

Realization: I should have tagged the two vote categories.

Oh well... Too late now.

Slightly sad that being undead isn't getting more traction, but oh well~
