Hear These Words...
Open Your Eyes, Child.

Know that though you still slumber, you have begun to gather within yourself great power. Listen well, and I shall guide you.

It is always more amusing when those to be sacrificed, believe you to be weak.

A classroom forms, and at the far end in that empty room, a blackboard begins to inscribe words in gold...

Influence, as shown on your character sheet, is the off-screen work, the constant background manipulations, small miracles and outright bribery that allows a Godbound to change an aspect of a location or construct some great work through their constant attention. But there is a drawback; you must keep Influence committed to ensure the change, and also remain in the general area. Otherwise, when you leave and the Influence is refunded, human nature and the engines of the universe will once again reassert the natural order. In short, Influence is useful for when you need an ultimately temporary fix until you can gain enough Dominion to create a proper solution.

Dominion is the true act of stretching out God's hand and creating wonders from nothing. With Dominion, anything is possible if you have enough of it. A golden statue that protects a village from failed crops? Easy. Magical cannons to launch brave explorers to explore the moons? Doable. A continent-sized floating palace where one can live in infinite splendor and decadence? Expensive but attainable. With Dominion, as long as you have the points to spend, there is nothing that cannot be done and very few things can prevent you from doing those things.

In the case of both Influence and Dominion, both have the same costs depending on the scale of the changes that Louise wishes to enact.

Village-scale: Any location containing up to 1000 permanent residents, or a few square miles in size. Cost: 1 Influence/Dominion
City-scale: Any location with up to 100,000 permanent residents, or ten square miles in size. Cost: 2 Influence/Dominion
Province-scale: Any location with up to 1-million permanent residents, or 1000 square miles in size. Cost: 4 Influence/Dominion
Nation-scale: Any location with up to 100-million permanent residents, or the size of the target kingdom itself. Cost: 8 Influence/Dominion
Realm-scale: The entire planet. Cost: 16 Influence/Dominion

Furthermore, this base cost is multiplied based on the plausibility of the action that the Dominion is being spent on.

Probable actions, such as convincing a king to enact policies that benefit himself and his kingdom, to having your own statue in the Academy, only cost the base amount of points.

Improbably actions, such as discovering massive deposits of a valuable resource in an area known to be resource-poor, or blessing the entirety of Valliere territory with constant incredible farming yields, increases the base cost by x2.

Impossible actions, such as the continent-sized floating palace, creating entirely new resources with incredible advantages, or creating a Warhammer 40K-esque Standard Templace Construction Database to uplift Halkegania, increase the base cost by x4. They also require a suitable mighty deeds or even multiple deeds just to get everything finished and working.

You will always be able to enact your will upon the world. Now go forth, and make all that you see into yours to do with as you wish.

That is what it means to be the One Above All...

And with a snort, Louise Valliere woke up.

"...despite our previous interactions, I don't hate you Zerbst." Louise smiled wide as she folded her arms, "In fact, I've come to appreciate our little spats."

Kirche blinked, before she rallied, "I-is that so? Well, not that I'm complaining about your enjoyment of our little spars, but tell me Zero, why is it that you appreciate them?"

Louise stepped forward, the action too fast for Kirche to react as Louise pressed her face against Kirche's abdomen and the Germanian blinked at the muffled answer, glancing at Tabitha who simply shrugged. Kirche rolled her eyes before she spoke up again, "What was that Louise?"

"...jealous." Louise answered more clearly, before she lifted her head to stare into Kirche's eyes and-

'Lords Of All...' Kirche thought, 'Were her eyes always that pretty?' Only experience kept a blush from showing as Louise continued speaking.

"...attention you receive." Louise's hands suddenly gripped Kirche's breasts, causing the Germanian to bite her lip and avoid moaning, "And yes, Zerbst, that means I'm jealous of these oversized milk reservoirs of yours. We're the same bloody age and you've got bigger tits than me!" Louise huffed as she let go, "But what disappoints me is how easily they got to you."

"Got to me?" Kirche raised an eyebrow, "Who got to me Louise?" This sounded somewhat concerning as Louise snarled and waved a hand to seemingly indicate the school.

"You're not blind Zerbst! The other students! You and Tabitha are the only foreigners here, do you know that? When you call me Zero, I can ignore it, but only because you fail to realise what the other students are aiming for!" Louise sighed, "The other students are using this as a way to gain leverage over their rivals and House Valliere's position is a crown they all want to take. Regardless of my mother, if they can get a potential heiress to the Valliere territory to be seen as weak? That puts them in a position to rise above their current station."

Kirche felt her mood sober at this, "And if a foreigner buys into it..."

Louise's expression was pitying before she hugged Kirche, "I'm sorry you had to be dragged into this, but I forgive you." And as Kirche carefully returned the hug, still somewhat unsure and a little disturbed by how Louise was acting so...not like Louise, she looked at Tabitha who despite her neutral expression was equally confused.

Tabitha shrugged again, her expression conveying her thoughts, 'Nothing to do.'

Finally, after what felt like several minutes, Louise broke the hug, and rubbed at an eye, "I'm sorry, this probably wasn't how you expected your morning to go, eh Zerbst?"

Kirche nodded slowly, "You could say that..."

Louise sighed, "Well, just...be more careful about the conversations you get into about me, not everything here is just your standard schoolyard bullying."

"Now then, I intend to have some breakfast Zerbst, so goodbye." Louise declared, leaving the poleaxed Kirche standing there while Tabitha seemingly kept reading her book, until she snapped it closed as Louise turned the corner, jolting Kirche back to awareness.

"What...just happened?"

Tabitha shook her head as Kirche turned questioning eyes to her, "Louise is dangerous."

"Yes, Tabitha, I know that the school prodigy is dangerous, but that can't be what you meant." Kirche questioned as they started walking to the dining hall for breakfast as well, and for a moment Tabitha seemed confused, before she shrugged.

"All prodigies are dangerous."

Kirche rolled her eyes, "Speaking from experience?" She quipped as Tabitha snorted.

"Ass."

"Yes, I have a very nice one Tabitha, it's good of you to notice."

And so it went, just another normal morning in the Tristain Academy of Magic.

Louise found that Siesta was someone who was stronger than she looked, if the death-grip the maid was giving her hand was any indication. Even so, the maid didn't try to let go and run away as Louise brought her closer to where Guiche was now just starting to recover, Montmorency nearby applying some basic Water-magic healing as Louise huffed, "Well Gramont?"

Guiche groaned as Montmorency glared at Louise but he managed to speak, "This...proves nothing...Zero."

Louise sighed, "Idiot." She patted Siesta on the shoulder with her other hand, the maid still gripping tightly, "Siesta, please show Montmorency the item you tried to return to Gramont."

Siesta gulped and slowly let go of Louise's hand to pull a perfume bottle from her pocket, "It...He dropped this and when I tried to return it to him, he..." Louise placed a calming hand on Siesta as Montmorency's eyebrow rose questioningly, a request in her gaze as Louise obliged, taking the perfume bottle from Siesta and handing to Montmorency who studied it with a careful eye.

"This is one I gave you a few days ago. Guiche, if this maid said you lost my gift to you, why would spread a story about her trying to blackmail you with accusations of you being unfaithful to me...again." The last part came out as a low hiss as Guiche, now able to sit up and speak properly, rallied to try and deflect the blame off himself.

Louise pitied the fop, but frankly she just wanted this over with as she looked around...

9, Success

...and recognized a first year girl who was looking worriedly at Guiche and knew just what to do to twist the knife. After all, if the girl who Guiche had clearly been wooing decided to step in

"Of course he was being unfaithful." Louise declared with a sigh, "It's Gramont after all. I could tell just by looking at the scene that he had decided to fool around with a first-year girl behind your back and was actually serious enough about it to harm this innocent maid!" She swept her hand back at Siesta who jolted as the crowd rippled with hushed murmuring, Louise looking at Montmorency pityingly, "To be honest, I think everyone was expecting this at some point."

"Guiche..." Montmorency hissed, "I sincerely hope that you have a damn good explanation why, because if Louise Valliere is telling the truth-" She cut herself off, clearly trying to avoid being overcome with emotion as Louise stepped away, watching the girl as she focused on all manner of newfound instincts and pushed a single thought towards the girl, who quickly seemed to come to a decision and stepped forward, declaring, "That perfume is mine!"

1 Effort has been spent to invoke a powerful miracle: Conviction Of Error.

Focusing on her childhood training to keep her breathing steady despite the feeling of tiredness that washed over her, Louise turned to Siesta, "Come, we've done enough here."

And so they left as Guiche found himself caught between two angry young women.

Louise would deny to her dying day that the sound of a slap combined with the twin cries of "LIAR!" made her smile, no matter what Siesta would have to say about it.

***

Siesta's quarters were not far from the main areas that the maids worked in; the kitchens, student quarters and the classrooms along with various special function rooms such as the Alviss Ballroom and the Academy's private chapel were all reachable from the Servant Wing of the academy. And with Siesta to lead the way, the sight of a noble child following a maid to her personal quarters was probably going to result in a lot of embarrassing questions.

As it was, Louise was more interested in sitting on a hard stool and waiting for the maid in question to stop fretting long enough to finally calm herself and speak, "Thank you, Lady Valliere. You saved my life, no matter what the reason was, and in my village that would mean that I truly owe you a life debt."

Louise shrugged, such things were a common enough occurrence, but only further out in more remote villages, "Your home is a frontier village then?"

Siesta nodded, "A freehold my lady, Tarbes was established long ago with the Crown's permission."

A freehold? That was interesting, "I admit to have never heard of Tarbes, but I suppose that would be of no real surprise to you." The water cup she had been handed was a relief for Louise, it felt like she had been far more speaking than she had done last year, but considering the nature of two of her Gifts, Louise felt that she ought to get more used to it. After all, when you could make anyone believe...nearly everything you said, save for a few caveats that had come to her knowledge almost as soon as she gained Knowledge, then there was perhaps literally no-one who could gainsay her.

She could go up to her mother and spin a tale of a year's worth of academic abuse by the children of rival families before she managed to develop a universal dispel while ignoring any attempts to have her strike back and shame the Valliere name...and her mother would believe it wholeheartedly, as if whatever fanciful garbage Louise could readily and easily vomit from her lips was coming from Brimir Himself!

Louise smiled as she took another grateful sip, her mind considering the possibilities as she idly discussed details about the Freehold of Tarbes with Siesta, the kind of innocuous topics that any listener would be bored by, such as local exports (to think that these wooden cups were from there, the quality was actually quite good), to small gossip-level details about friends and family, even poking at local myths, which got an interesting reaction that brought Louise's focus to Siesta proper.

Siesta looked around before she leaned towards her, "Well, there is one legend that is real, it sits at the village boundaries, in a cave that was turned into an ancient shrine."

"Oh?" Louise smiled genuinely, leaning forward as well, "I can keep a secret."

Siesta smile faintly, "My grandfather...he came from a hole in the sky, long ago, about a century ago according to the village elders, when they were children themselves."

Louise blinked, "People are that long-lived in Tarbes? I've never heard of any commoner living past the age of 60 without magical aid." Expensive magical aid, because such mages, even the kindly ones, required a fortune in rare materials and reagents for the treatments.

"Grandfather...is old." Siesta replied carefully, "He said that he was old long before he came to Tarbes and settled down, and when he did that was when we had our own little legend, the Dragon's Raiment."

"The Dragon's Raiment?" Louise repeated slowly, curiosity bubbling up in her, "What exactly is that?"

Siesta shook her head, "I'm sorry, but it's...almost impossible to describe. All I can really say for certain is that it is something that can fly and that when you look at it, you realise you are in the presence of something Holy, something that should be worshipped as a god, and Grandfather is the head of the worship for the Dragon's Raiment."

"Damn," Louise sighed as she leaned backwards on the stool, "And here I thought I would hear a commoner legend about how it performed miracles, or that it slew mighty dragons upon arrival to earn the name."

Siesta giggled softly, "It did kill a dragon in fact. The elders and Grandfather both claim that he was fighting a dragon when he fell from the sky, and its bones are still present as a monument to his victory." Her expression turned wistful, "I'm looking forward to going back for Midwinter Rites, actually, if..." She shook her head, noticing Louise's curious stare, "I'm sorry my lady, it's a private matter and I've taken up enough of your time already."

"That's fine." Louise waved a hand, "After all..."

[]"...without a familiar, I can't stay at this Academy for much longer."

Well I have... no strong opinion on the vote or even the start of an idea of what to do with our Dominion. Sure we can, in theory, do anything, but we don't really have a goal right now do we?

@Gideon020 might I ask what it would cost in terms of dominion to layer a lie over the Academy that makes the whole "Louise is a prodigy" lie work on everyone and have physical evidence?

Similarly would we be able to do something to the academy using a mixture of all our domains, basically an effect that makes it so that those staying there (specifically the students but to an extent the teachers and servants) get pushed to their full potential within the mold of Louise's idea of the ideal noble (So conforming to her interpretation of Noblesse Oblige and Loyal to Tristain/the crown).

Louise might not have any specific objective but we do know that Reconquista is about to launch an invasion in the comming months. And we know it will start by attacking Tarbes, so investing on the town might be a good way to push the invading army back.

Probable cost, so 1 Dominion. Something like warping history and academic performance is cake to a nascent goddess.

Now enacting a change so that somehow Tristain becomes the talk of the known world, renowned for producing the finest mages in the world from that point on?

Improbable, so 2 Dominion.

So, call it 3 Dominion total to enact both changes.

What about the second one? The one that encourages the students to develop in a way that brings out their full potential, basically giving the Academy a divine effect of bringing out the best of it's students.

[X] Plan A Prodigious Lie
-[X] The Lie: Use 1 Domain to have a statue of Louise placed on the academy grounds, the statue commemorates her as the greatest student ever to grace the academy. It is the center of a great lie that establishes that when she arrived at the Academy she was a prodigy, that she had always been a prodigy and that any statement otherwise is just slander.
-[X] The Prodigy: Use 2 Domain to layer an effect upon the Academy, one that divinely enhances it's ability to bring out the best of it's students and smooth away their flaws. With this Tristain shall become the source of the finest mages in the world, bar none.

You can say that. But getting this out the way first.

[X]"...I've decided that you posess the qualities to become my personal maid."

I think we shouldnt spent any influence, or domain yet. As just like what the vote 1 said. We doesnt have a long stay here. Or if there is anyone want to vote spending it to summon a familiar ourself? Louise just said she can literally fooled anybody, and even if it isnt allowed the punishment is worth it.

As for other thing to spend it on we must chose high priority area. Valerie land, and Tarbes. These two is a must. And speaking of Tarbes, they made the plane into Religion eh? Is there any chance it could become a God? Or at least some kind of spirit? It would still be VERY fun to convert them.

Personally I want to at least lay some seeds at the academy, since two of our domains (Knowledge and Sorcery) are pretty much perfect for a school setting. Plus having some seeds planted there early can help us with converting the nobility to our religion.

Let's turn the plane into an avatar of our power and then into our familiar. Several birds killed with one divine stone.

Hmm. Wouldnt that be too ooc? Louise has her Pride as a noble. I think she would be prefering to raise her reputation by her own effort rather then choosing the easy way.
And also I think your second vote is kinda moot. If I werent wrong Tristain IS the best one in Halkegenia. I dont see any other magical school, and Germania itself send one of their own nobles to their rival country. If that isnt prestigious I dont know what is.

But this is her own effort. At this level, this is the equivalent to taking a permanent marker and doing cheap graffiti on a train, but that's Dominion she's going to have difficulty regaining.

Louise still has her pride, but this is a goddess in the making, one who is completely aware that lies and truth are now seamless to anyone who isn't her.

And you don't hear about other magic academies because the story was focused on Louise. And Kirche only went to Tristain because it was closest when she fled her arranged marriage. Tabitha just wanted to be as far away from Gallia as possible.

Gideon how much is it to summon our own familiar?

You're correct, by canon the Tristanian academy is the only one of it's kind and the Tristanian mages are the best of Halkeginia, competing with the Romalian ones.

Actually I am a little unclear about how difficult it is to gain domain, since looking back it seems we got some just for showing off to the kitchen staff with some knife throwing.

That was a freebie. There won't be any more gains like that, only from defeating Worthy Foes, acting in accordance to your Words and draining Celestial Shards.

'Shugs' problably just my own bias. I just doesnt like taking the easy way to reputation. Easy way to lie, steal, collecting information, infiltration, kill, sow discord. All game. Raising reputation? I just want something that show how others look at us to be filled with effort, and hardwork to say that in the future we recollect what happens, and say "we work hard to get to where we are now".

Depends on what you want to summon but since it would only happen in the Academy, that's a base cost of 1. Animal? x1. Young Dragon or Human? x2. Something as incredibly dangerous as a Vex Mind? x4 because of the impossibility of pulling it out of where it had established itself. And you'd need at least one Celestial Shard and a quest to find a scrap of Vex technology on a distant world just to pull it off.

Also, you want something that can easily be looked back at with pride? I would suggest thinking big, because Louise is going to be operating at levels that are equal to the likes of Greek and Norse heroes and quite likely higher.

I see your point, then how do you feel about changing it so that the statue primarily does a "Louise is the ideal Noble, you should strive to be like her." sort of effect?

Another question then. Would anything we summon a Gandalfr? And if its an animal would it be magical if we specified it.
