Gamer's Destiny - New Game Plus

I frowned. There was nothing else to it then. Swimming with literally supernatural skill, I swam over to the door, then dove down towards it.

She descended in the water, the light coming from above showing where she needed to go without a problem.

Once she was near the the door, however, the true problem became apparent.

Maybe it was because of the distortion caused by the water, maybe it was because of the distance, but the door to the next trial had no handle. It was a double door, completely smooth and without any way to grab it.

Kyle waited a bit for the Skillbooks to do their thing and take hold, then got his car going and resumed his trip home so he could drop off his car before trying to request a quest.

The three books vanished into sparkles one after the other, causing him a slight headache.

I step into the Casino Dungeon, leading the way; I keep a eye out to see if I can find any enemies; after all, I still want that Boon.
Sham followed after Reynard, excited to see what this dungeon was like. In his mind, he was thinking the casino from Persona 5, but in his heart, he just hoped there weren't more wererats.

The place was completely clean, perfectly sparkling and several people dressed in the classic attendant/servant uniform - black pants, black blazer, white shirt, bow tie - were milling around, answering to the people asking for something.

An immaculately dressed and smiling receptionist greeted them from behind the counter.

"Welcome. How can I help you?"

The three books vanished into sparkles one after the other, causing him a slight headache.

"oof..." Kyle grumbled beneath his breath.

He dismissed the Glamour and waited a bit for the headache to lessen up, then drove home.

Once there, he put the car in his garage and close it up, leaving him ready to get down to the next item on his agenda.

First, he used Pulse of Ki Lv 1, 'consuming' the book. Realizing he hadn't actually eaten anything since breakfast, he went to the kitchen and put together a quick bite. A bit of peanut butter, a little cheese, a bit of apple. He washed it down with a glass of milk, then took a brief moment to clean up so he wouldn't be leaving a dirty home sitting around to come home to.

A bit of food in his stomach, Kyle went to near the back of the house, then 'consumed' two more skillbooks. First, he used Pathfinding Lv 2, followed by Wayfinding Lv 2.

After the two books were through the system and done their thing, he walked out to his backyard, locking the door behind him.

He went to the middle of the backyard, then looked out and around as if he were merely observing the scenery.

"Leela." Kyle thought. "Give me a quest to acquire Unique Equipment. Or Custom Equipment. Or whatever equipment reward lets me choose my own equipment. Like when I was able to design my Silver Feather Boots after the undead rat quest."

That was annoying, but manageable. I was still rather concerned about pulling the cork, but I didn't seem to have any other choice. So, using my hydrokinesis, I began to slowly push out the cork, ready to stop and force it back in if something went wrong.

The train ride was, as always fast and smooth, stopping in front of the cottage without even a single bump.

From the chimney, a light column of smoke came, painting a line in the othetwise empty sky.

"I was going to fight the ants, but with reduced health " I shake my head no and get into a meditative positon outside of her house and start focusing on KI empowerment seeing if now that I have more experience I can train the skill to a higher level. focusing on improving the speed and power of KI flowing through me.

I pause thoughtfully. "Well, last time I was here, I ran afoul of the rule against flying without a permit. Pray tell, could you give me a rundown of the casino's rules, and the consequences for breaking them?"

The cork moved easily. Very, very easily.

In fact, she didn't even have to completely pull it out, it started to come out by itself after a moment, resisting all attempts to slow it down or to push it back.

In the meantime, from the wall, several hidden circular panels opened, letting several giant creatures - a mix between a fish and an eel - without eyes, but with massive jaws, looking a transparent blue and a clearly sniffing the water, out.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before he could really start, he felt a cane hitting him on the head.

"Don't you know that is rude to block the way?" Grandmother was coming outside of the cottage, a basket hanging from her elbow and another - a way bigger one - in her hands.

"Take this and help me. We're going to grab some mushrooms for tonight's soup." Her tone was no-nonsense enough that Donavin understood that she was serious. "And if you're good enough, maybe you'll even learn something new. Or old, depending on how you look at it."

Then she started walking towards the woods.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I pause thoughtfully. "Well, last time I was here, I ran afoul of the rule against flying without a permit. Pray tell, could you give me a rundown of the casino's rules, and the consequences for breaking them?"

She smiled.

"Of course. The rules are as follow:"

A window appeared in front of them.

Code:
Rules:
No cheating. Whoever is found cheating will forfeit their coins, thrown out and banned.
No attacking without provocation. Whoever is found will be thrown out and suspended.
No flight.
No use of skill.
No stealing. Whoever is found will forfeit their coins, thrown out and suspended.
Whatever the Boss says, goes.
Rules will change as needed.

"Who is the Boss?" Sham was grateful that Reynard had asked for a rundown of the rules before he (or perhaps Shingo) did something foolish, but the idea of a head of this dungeon intrigued him. Was it a human Gamer like them, or some strange species? Was the dungeon core alive like in some novels he read?

"Also I heard there were fights in some kind of arena that anyone could enter. I would like to enter the anything goes arena, the one with a 1-100 payout if I win." He reminded himself of the reason he had come here in the first place.

"You need an arena pass for that, and of course to actually head to the arena." I note.

"What does 'no use of skill' mean? Since I clearly haven't been chastised for the sustains I had active the last time I was here. And for that matter, how is that different from 'no cheating'?"

Pathfinding and Wayfinding have synergy with Navigation. Do you wish to fuse the three skills together?

"Uh...yeah. Do that." Kyle thought. He hadn't considered the idea that mundane skills could fuse. But if they were synergistic and could fuse together, he could only assume that the resulting skill would be a unifying upgrade over what the three individual skills provided.

If not, well, he could always go back and buy new copies of the lost skills.

The quest laid out, Kyle went back into his house. There, he once again donned both his mask and his hoodie.

Thinking a moment, he accessed his Disguise Lv 6 Skillbook to consume it.

After the book was used, Kyle activated Glamour to cloak himself and hide his exit from the house, making the back door appear as though it was undisturbed even as he left, closed, and locked the back door behind him again. Walking back to the middle of his back yard with his Glamour Cloak activated, Kyle activated Ki Empowerment Stance for a speed boost, then took to the sky utilizing the Fae Flight ability Reynard had provided him with before the Perversion fight.

Once at suitable altitude, Kyle flew towards the central region of the city. As he went, he both checked his mental radar and swapped through his various Mana and Ki senses to see if he could spot a hint of anything that might clue him in to where he was suppose to go; to see if the presence of Mana or Ki where it wasn't supposed to be might clue him in to the existence of a secret passageway.

In the meantime, from the wall, several hidden circular panels opened, letting several giant creatures - a mix between a fish and an eel - without eyes, but with massive jaws, looking a transparent blue and a clearly sniffing the water, out.
That was unfortunate, but not entirely unexpected. There was nothing I could really do immediately however, except perhaps one thing. The massive creatures seemed to be trying to find me by scent, but of course scent still needed something to be transmitted through. Thus, I used my hydrokinesis to grab the water directly around me and hold it in place. Hopefully, the surrounding water would still stream around it, but my scent would not be carried, instead trapped in the water under my control.

With that done, I observed the creatures, and tried to figure out two things: when the water would finish draining, and when I would be able to open the door. Then, I settled in to wait, ready to quickly propel myself away if the beasts detected me another way.

"Sure" I say with a shrug as I stand up and start following her to the woods. "So I guess you are aware that the world didn't end".

"No new skill in use. And of course someone can try to cheat without using skills."

"How do I get an arena pass? And where is the arena?" The questions were directed at both Gamer and receptionist.

"Again, follow the red line on the ground. An Arena Pass is a ticket that allow you to participate in the Arena Fights. It can be bought at the Arena."

It didn't really work a lot. The streets were far away and the traces of Ki or Mana were diluted and difficult to follow. Flying did help in letting him avoid obstacles, but also made difficult finding more clues.

He did get an interesting side effect, though.

She was correct in her deduction about the way those fishes found their prey.

The main problem was that the cork had finally popped out and blinked out of existence, leaving behind the previously sealed hole. And the water started streaming inside the hole, faster and faster, until it formed a raging whirlpool.

Her control over the water around her started to tremble and slip, the force that the water was under too strong for her to control, for now.

The fishes instantly zeroed on her once her control broken, starting to swim towards her.

Not that she didn't have trouble in remaining away from the sucking force of the whirlpool, after all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sure" I say with a shrug as I stand up and start following her to the woods. "So I guess you are aware that the world didn't end".

"Yeah. Kinda obvious." Grandmother shrugged, before pointing at a cluster of mushrooms on the ground near the base of a tree.

"And I know that you all have done a good work. Congratulations."

A moment of silence, before she started to walk once again, after Donavin had taken all the mushrooms. "Of course you know that the reward for a work well done is more work, right?" Her question had something of a rethoric lilt to it.

"Heh." Kyle mused to himself. He now had 'Cartography' as a Skill and 'Cartographer' as a Perk. Combined with all the built-in 'tools' that the perk provided, Kyle couldn't help but imagine the two synergizing in some way. At the very least, he expected that the skill would gain some kind of boost from the benefits of the perk.

It didn't really work a lot. The streets were far away and the traces of Ki or Mana were diluted and difficult to follow. Flying did help in letting him avoid obstacles, but also made difficult finding more clues.

"Hmm..."

Kyle found a building to land on and set down on the rooftop. If flying put him too far away from what he sought, he'd have to approach from somewhere at least a little closer to the ground.

"Parkour?" Kyle said to himself, then immediately answered his own question. "Parkour."

Noting the benefit he'd gotten of a boost to Cartography merely by flying above the city, Kyle decided he might as well try to create a training opportunity out of it. He retrieved the Level 2 Acrobatics and Athletics skill books and used them both.

Noting that he'd gotten a minor headache after using three skillbooks in short order, but two had seemed to be fine, Kyle waited a bit for the first two books to settle, then used the Discovery Lv 4 skillbook as well.

Once that book had gone through the system, Kyle began to 'run' across the rooftops in a fashion befitting a so-called 'superhero'. He turned to a region of the city where the rooftops were lower to the ground, then began running across said rooftops as he tried to search for the signs of mana or ki he was looking for.

Kyle used his own ki-enhanced speed and leaping power as much as he was able, but boosted his leaping when needed with help from the flight skill and used both that flight and the benefits of his boots to ensure he avoided damage from any drops that were too far for him to reasonably land without expecting damage.

As he ran across the rooftops, Kyle left markers on his mental map to indicate what rooftops he'd traveled across, then utilized a rudimentary grid pattern to minimize the need to retread territory he'd already covered.

"The Boss is the Boss." The receptionist answered, smile still firmly attached to her face. "As for the Arena, please follow the red line on the ground. Blue lead to the Slot Machines and yellow to the Card Tables."

"Ok thanks for the info!" Sham was gonna ask about an Arena pass price, but realised he might as well do so at the Arena. He glanced back at Reynard and Shingo.

"You two want to come to the Arena with me, or do you have other plans?" Regardless of their answers, he starts following the red line to the Arena.

"Yeah. Kinda obvious." Grandmother shrugged, before pointing at a cluster of mushrooms on the ground near the base of a tree.

That was concerning, but thankfully I did have another option. The flight I had been granted when fighting the perversions had not yet gone away, so using that combined with my some assistance from my hydrokinesis, I flew up, as far above the water as I could.

If I couldn't beat the current to get out, I would work with it, flying up and in, instead of directly upwards.

When he used the Acrobatics skillbook, he discovered that it gave him a skill called Gymnastics instead of Acrobatics. A window appeared a moment later.

Code:
Gymnastics (Level 2)(0%): Codified physical exercise that allow for someone to move in certain specific and appealing way. Also, highly acrobatics way.

Code:

It was exceedingly easy to do. He could feel his body move and move well, better than any other time ever.

His map kept expanding, a grin coming to his face in short order, his need to use the flight basically zero.

Code:

"You two want to come to the Arena with me, or do you have other plans?" Regardless of their answers, he starts following the red line to the Arena.

"Eh, I'll check the Arena, sure." Shingo Doji shrugged, noncommittally, clearly not completely interested.

I shrug slightly. "Don't see why not. I won quite a bit the last time, after all." And I've grown in power since. I follow.

Again, the red line makes them go to the hallway that connects the two wings of the casino, before turning towards the stairway on the wall on the side of the reception.

Descending it, they find themselves into a spacey room, a marked circular space in the middle and a counter to the side, with another receptionist waiting there, smiling.

"I know, I know the war isn't over that simple, we were not given such potential for one fight alone, What do you know of the coming work?" He asks as he walks with her.

Grandmother seems to hum to herself for a moment.

"Is this what you want to ask of me for your help?" Her voice is clearly unworried, while she points at another patch of mushrooms.

She was fast.

The fishes weren't that fast.

But they clearly has some sort of water controlling ability, as a the water above her hardened into almost a solid wall, blocking her from getting out.

That made her notice that a couple of fishes got sucked away by the whirlpool, however.
