Digging Up Problems (IC Thread)

Vex sprints down the hallway, railguns pointed dead ahead.

[I-If they're still here, tell the others I can keep it open or shut it down but I don't know how long I can keep the other guy out. Otherwise I'm going in after them.] Vex' long experience with the BattleNet has given her a lot of practice in speaking quickly and hiding her emotions, but even so a twinge of fear leaks into her message.

Nothing hinders Olivia as she leaps through the portal, arriving in a far larger room and taking in the situation. The place is swarming with bugs, their chitters and the taps of hundreds of insectoid feet making her shiver for just a moment. A sea of drooling mandibles clicks as she emerges, sizing up what they see as their next meal.

(216 crawlies, 2 ApT each.
Peerless Knight: Avalanche ApT at 216 x 3 = 648
71 actions spent on Sprint levels, 571 remain
Get rekt, bitches)

Then Olivia's magic kicks into high gear and she explodes forward without missing a beat, ramming into the first bug like a freight train.

(damage higher than their health, +ridiculous ramming speed = splat)

Her blade slices through the beast like a hot knife through butter and comes out leaving even the trail of blood behind; Olivia is long gone by the time the body even separates in two.

Only moments pass before others arrive through the portal. All they see a blur of blue and steel rampaging along the screeching horde, closely followed by a cloud of ichor interspersed with entrails, arms, and heads. A handful of stragglers escaped the onslaught for now, bereft of limbs or with cracked chitin where armoured boots and fists struck instead of sharp steel.

With her fresh grenade in hand, Shots comes through the portal to view the absolute carnage that Avalanche has left in her wake. With the remainder of the insects in various states of incapacitated, she quickly fires off a pair of shots at two nearby survivors.

Phantom Gale wasn't going to just leave her friends in the lurch....even if they probably didn't need any help. She still follows through the portal, whipping the wind into a pair of hurricanes and curving it to pick off any still living whatever these bugs were supposed to be.

Slashing Gale: +375 Base damage, +261 dice = 636 total damage
Slashing Gale: +375 Base damage, +75 dice = 450 total damage
636+450 = 1086 Unified Damage

Remaining Spiky Insects: 100 base resilience, no dice, -??? Critical Strike

Counting Shots and Phantom Gale enter a scene of dynamic fury. Avalanche moves in a blur, sparks flying where she steps and insectoid monsters shattering to pieces a sword's length from Avalanche's gripping hand. Counting Shots fires off two bullets almost without thinking about it, finishing off a wounded critter that had been tossed into the air by an aftershock and then shifting targets to down a quick-reacting monster that had pushed its kin back to lunge at her. Avalanche doubles back and turns another line of gribblies into giblets.

An action that handily throws a few more into the air for Gale to react to, she grabs them with her controlled winds and slams them into a strange fluttering creature of metal rods and crystal wings.

(Times ten multiplier in effect against airborne targets)

The portal fades behind them as Avalanche continues to speed through the room.

Scanning the room for not-quite-dead insects would be considerably harder if Avalanche wasn't going line by line and launching some airborne for Gale. As is, pulling the pin and hurling her grenade towards a pile of battered but suffering insects to save Avalanche a bit of time backtracking seems like a smart idea. Especially with the portal closing; No point in leaving anything alive to get back up and come at them from behind.
Explosive Surprise: 150 base damage, 1d150 dice
