We can actually help industrialized the south so they don't relay on slaves for their work
Institute strict rationing, start up donation drives drives to get very bit of gold, silver and jewelry possible then use the donated goods to buy food from anyone we can buy food from. This should lower the death toll.

Well we have the largest voting block. If uncle sam wants to benefit from what we have they are going to have to accept that and not cater to the filthy slavers.

Here is the thing: historicaly south resisted industrization. The plantation owners realized early on that if the south industrialized their influence would start to wane. To prevent that loss of power they would politically oppose any attempt to industrialize and laid the foundations of the modern US anti-intellectual movement by opposing any attempt to improve education in states they held sway in.
