~slime is all~

tru but still has the issue of like... us establishing a wide colonial organism with turbines and/or electrostatic materials. Are we just going to turn our host into a kelp forest? I'd be down for that tbh.
No. I was planning to make enough non-living modules that we could throw into the bay and then later collect. No idea where you got your idea, but it's shit.

Our Host shoots bone spikes at things. We can make non-living things.
We can make non-living things that are organic and part of us. We can't make complex tinker items that are somehow storing energy as edible, organic matter while also being non-living. Also, bone is a living thing.

I guess considering that the mecha has been accepted it's somewhat reasonable to say we can do distinct objects. It's also somewhat reasonable to say that the mecha is a biological organism, and thus living.

A kelp forest simply seems like the most reasonable way to transmute wave motions into energy. If humans could easily create salt-water resistant devices that act like kelp or seaweed, we probably would. If you want, we could always attach turbines to the kelp, too. Or grow, like, coral that makes channels or something... and line the floor of the bay with them... and then put the kelp on top of that and store the biomass in the rock below... idk.

Well, if we expand and strengthen the host's brain, enlarging parts for engineering, and ramp up Madisons hunger then we could probably make her smart enough to think of a reliable way to solve her hunger issues that acheives the same sort of result.

But Dwood's already vetoed direct biological methods of creating organisms to harvest food for us.

Frankly speaking, I'm surprised he allowed the pseudo med-packs of slime.

On a similar subject, though, Crawler's brain was described as beachball sized, so we could probably use this technique to turn Mafison into an Artificial Tinker, of sorts. Just an enlarged brain, with a lot of focus on the sort of mental skill used for understanding concepts and applying them to solve a solution. She wouldn't have a natural understanding of the laws of physics, but she'd get a natural aptitude for being able to learn and apply them.

Don't you mean thinker?

I think they mean thinker designed to fulfil the role of a tinker.
Thank you. We can make her smarter, or at least increase her aptitude for learning, but if we improve her ability in certain areas by more than others, then we may be able to push her likes to align with the sort of thinking that will allow her to become an inventor. While she'll never match up to a Tinker, she'll be able to more easily grasp ways to create better technology, all of which will be mass producible. More importantly, while Dwood vetoed us having the ability to just drop seeds or anything similar that would simply hunt food for us, if Madison gets smart enough, she might be able to create something to acheive a similar result, without any help from us.

Um don't think that's a good idea since that would drastically alter the feeling of the quest. We are already doing adaptations, tinker and invention will just bog the quest down and I doubt the QM will be cool with such a change.

Fair point. I just felt like I killed the conversation with my earlier post, since it seemed one of the arguers was getting worked up on occasion. Personally, I love the discussion on this thread, so I figured I'd try to restart conversation.

On that topic, would just making her smarter work?

I think that seems reasonable.

While it works in the story, it probably make writing a fair bit harder. Trying to write for people who are smart (really smart, not just inventors) can be difficult. You've gotta put yourself in the place of the character, and ask how they'd react, which is difficult to do when the way they react is always supposed to be in a more intelligent way than yourself. Making a character with superhuman intelligence is taxing. Making them the main character is a nightmare for most writers.

Chapter 6, P.2
A/N: At first I had this idea of where I wanted to go, then realized it was shit. This final part of chapter 6 on the other hand, is (imho), while shorter than planned, comparatively not shit.

Sorry if it seems disjointed. I want to keep the story moving and the quest evolving.

-----------

We were at the trainyard in short order. The conversation with Glory Girl just made me consider her more and more of a conceited bitch.

"Is this a good spot?" I asked, in the back area among the rail tracks and some storage sheds where they kept the nicer cars when the yard had been operating at full capacity.

"As good as any to thrash you." She said. The place abounded with a bunch of beat up cars.

"Going to apologize to me for being a bitch?" she said. "If you do, I might be nicer when I beat you up, especially since my sister seems to like you."

I was done with the pleasantries.

"I was thinking about whether or not I should apologize to you, and I've decided that you don't deserve one."

She was frowning.

I was smiling.

"In fact, you need to know that you, yeah, you yourself are a complete bitch."

"Shut up."

"What? Tired of hearing the truth about yourself? You don't know anything."

"Shut up!" She yelled, her frustration mounting. Clenching her fist.

I was getting so excited, she needed to be laid bare and i was the one to do. It. I licked my incredibly sharp teeth with and kept going.

"Yeah, that's right. You don't know anything about your sister. You take complete advantage of her. You don't know anything about the pain she's in right now."

"Shut up!" She screamed, shaking.

"I can see it in your eyes and when I talk to her. You. Don't. Love. Her."

And just like that, the cord snapped! She popped! A flash of motion, my body moving out of the way, but not fast enough, went flying, tumbling across the trainyard, bouncing along the ground.

Damn, she was faster than I thought she was. I laid on the ground, after a short moment, I felt good. Really good. That was awesome!

Some painful coughing later I got on my hands and knees, picking myself up off the ground.

"Listen to me, you little whore." I heard, all too clearly for the tumble I had just taken. She grabbed me by my shirt lifting me straight up, off the ground. I looked back at her in her eyes.

"You. Know."

The thought I had was almost instinctual, but I held my hand on her body. I could feel the field though, stopping my claws. A pretty selective filter. We were rising really fast, actually.

"Nothing. About. My"

She said, just as I felt the pressure in my hands build, ready to release in succession.

"Family."

POP!

The first one. Her eyes widened slightly in surprise at the noise. The second one went off, and she looked down. My claw sticking into her costume slightly. Then it fell out. No blood. Didn't even pierce her skin.

She snickered. Then laughed. Lifted me up above her head. Then threw me straight down.

I don't even remember the impact, honestly. Or the minutes afterwards. Apparently I hadn't died, which was hilarious now that I think about it.

On the other, hand, I literally couldn't move my limbs, and my body seemed a lot further away from my head than it should have been.

[x] Slime Girl

I had originally planned to vote bug girl, butI began this unusual train of thought. I need to follow it to its spectacular crash.

EDIT: OP just mentioned that explanatioms get extra weight:

The slime girl plan is a fairly effective way at allowing the host a freeform shape, capable of changing body type to match requirements (at least it will be, later on when we can add bone connection mode), as well as a good way around the square-cube law, since we can eat and grow as big as we want, then discard the excess mass as slime orbs, to be absorbed for reabsorbtion if we need it later, or simply form a really big puddle, with which we shall drown our opponents.

There are probably othrr things I can say, but I'll leave it at this for now.
