It is two hundred and fifty-one years after Aegon's Landing. One hundred and twenty years ago the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons came to an end. It ended as a victory for the supporters of Queen with Aegon the Usurper's supporters routed and humiliated. Even the Ironborn, who managed to use the civil war to carve out a small kingdom in the Riverlands, were eventually forced to surrender their ill-gotten gains with many of the Red Kraken's supporters fleeing to Essos. In addition, the Martells, who tried to use the Dance to advance their interests by invading the Stormlands, were forced to submit to the Targaryens to regain their land from the Yronwoods. Queen Rhaenyra had won, completely and utterly.

Unfortunately, many of her supporters would have cause to regret their choice of monarch. Rhaenyra and her sons would prove to be tyrants. They tried to strip power from the Lords Paramount through an overbearingCharter, imprisoned the dragonseed Brea Greywings and forced her to flee the Realm, used the Faith as a source of funds, andgenerally insulted and belittled the lords who had helped give them power.

Two dissenters, Oscar Tully and Alzbet Chamaaq were so incensed they decided to leave and the Realm and find work assellswords. Desperate to flee as far from Rhaenyra as they could they found work under the ambitious and energetic Princess Zhonto Toq. Eager for glory, she led a campaign that resulted in the unification of the Summer Islands for the first time in millennia resulting in the creation of the Summer Empire. The new Empress gave the amazonian Alzbet and her husband Cayle Fisher a sizable fief of islands, which became known as the Bastion, the home of theEmpire's best soldiers. The swashbuckling Tully was rewarded with the lands inSouthyros he had explored for the Throne, a vast land that became known as Zhon, in honor of the Empress.

As this was going on, Rhaenyra became incensed by the continued existence of theRed Kraken's followers in Essos, who had managed to form a formidable sellswordforce: the Iron Company. Sending a force of dragonriders and sellswords she expected to wipe them from face of Essos. They failed. The valiant archers of the Iron Company and Qohor fought them off and humiliatedRhaenyra. Seeking to avenge this humiliation, Rhaenyra tried to prop up the Triarchy as it faced a slave revolt and a Volantaeneinvasion, only to unite Essos in hatred of her family as Prince Joffrey burned the Old Blood of Volantis. In response the Essosi wouldassassinate all dragonriders in Essos and unite to defend themselves at Qohor's behest, electing Qohor's Prelate as the head of a united Freehold, one that would serve and honor all the states within it.

The stress took its toll on Rhaenyra and she died after a launching a futile attack on the new power. Crown Prince Jaceraeys hadalready died of the Winter Fever and his sole heir was a blind boy, who was too easily assassinated. Prince Lucerys tried to seize the Throne despite the decree of a GreatCouncil a few years ago on the succession, and while the Stormlands supported him, the North, the Riverlands, the Vale, and theWesterlands opposed him and cast him down. Many of his supporters sought tocontinue the war by other means by backing a puppet High-Septon Lucerys appointedafter killing the old one and in response the Riverlands, Valemen, and the Hightowers lead a military campaign around the Realm, purging all dissent. By the end, it was clear that a coalition of the Targaryens, Tullys, Starks, Arryns, and Lannisters ruled the Realm and under Good Queen Visenya, the realm began to do what it could to heal from the excesses of Rhaenyra's reign.

Meanwhile, the Freehold was not idle. A band of sellswords, a Qohorik force known as theBlack Blades, managed to drive the Dothraki from the ruins of Essaria and the Freehold poured in resources to rebuild Valyria's Youngest Daughter. Numerous battles would occur between the Freehold and the Dothraki and they would be at a stalemate until a Qohorik engineer discovered a Yi-Ti invention: gunpowder. The cannon and handgonnes he designed would prove effective when used inmass quantities against the Dothraki and in the small clashes that occurred between the various states of the Freehold. When Westrosi sellswords discovered it when serving under Pentos, they brought it back to Westeros, where it attracted varying degrees of interest from the various lords, especially as the ruling coalition, after decades of successful rule, seemed to be falling apart.

The Starks were the first to go, withdrawn into isolation by their obsession with the OldGods. But the real blow came when the Taint struck. For some unknown reason, a few Targaryens and dragons in every generation were being born deformed. Viewed by many as divine punishment, whispers began tospread that the main line of House Targaryen needed to be purged. This has recently come to a head with the deaths of the Untainted King Kendrick and his heir, along with the ascension the Tainted Prince Maelys. Hisintended bride, Rhaenys Targaryen, fled from him to Casterly Rock where she married the young and ambitious Lord Logan Lannister. He crowned Rhaenys as soon as they were married and has vowed to remove King Maelys from the Iron Throne in the name of the new Queen Rhaenys.

Westeros is not the only land with succession problems. In the Freehold the old Emperor is dead and various candidates vie for theThrone, bickering over the issue of whether the Free hold should be centralized to form a new Empire. In the midst of all this, theSummer Empire, focused for too long on internal affairs, is casting its eyes across the world once again and pondering the merits of exploration and intervening into thesequarrels.

The Game of Thrones is being played across the world and who knows who will live to see the end...

House Storm-Cloaked
The Veronings

---

Veron Greyjoy, called the Storm-Cloaked, the Stern, the Half-Man, and the Butcher of Harlaw, Lord Paramount of the Iron Isles and the Lord Hereditary of Pyke (134-203)

---
Taking his seat upon the Seastone Chair after the death of his brother, the Red Kraken, in 134AC, Veron Greyjoy would be the last Ironborn to call himself a Greyjoy to rule over the Iron Isles and in turn the first to call himself a Storm-Cloaked. Considered to be an ambitious and cruel man, the latter especially for unique amongst his peers, he would show no qualms with wiping out entire bloodlines down to the last wailing babe if it would serve to neutralise a perceived threat, Veron Greyjoy's rule would be a tumultuous one for the Iron Isles. Beginning with his early reforms, backed by dragonfire, which saw vast swathes of land seized and redistributed to loyal Lendmen, Masters, and Earls, all of whom were deeply indebted to their benefactor, and ending with the Butchery of Harlaw, his reign would be one that will both live on in infamy and serve as a shining example to his successors at the same time.

The former would have much to do with his own personal vices. Being that he was a Greyjoy, and one more alike his equally infamous brother than any man would dare confess out loud, it is well known that Veron Greyjoy's reign was one marked by war and various atrocities however where other Ironborn contented themselves with rape and murder, the Storm-Cloaked's vices rose far higher than such petty things. In the Riverlands, it would be Veron who would prove the architect of the deaths of countless Greenlanders through disease and starvation, of the kidnapping of hundreds of children to be raised as Ironborn, and whose name would be held in dark company for the longest. Abroad, his name would be associated with the Sack of Tyrosh and countless raids upon the Summer Isles and the Summer Sea, even as his decrees saw those raids decrease in number, which earned him few friends amongst the foreign rulers with whom his merchants sought to trade. Even at home, his name would be tinged with fell acts for during his reign, many an Ironborn would be executed at his command, many a family wiped out to prevent them from one day seeking vengeance, and several wars fought with his own kin as the Sons of Dalton sought on several occasions to return to the Iron Isles and reclaim their birthright.

At the same time, Veron Greyjoy's rise would bring an end to centuries of decay and, for at least a time, restore the Ironborn's fortunes. With the restrictions placed upon seasonal raids, which had intensified during Dalton Greyjoy's brief tenure as King and Paramount, the Ironborn were made to turn towards more peaceful pursuits for self-enrichment with trade being first and foremost amongst them. Lordsport would fast become a hub as the Ironborn subsequently spread out and, whilst struggling with undue prejudices levelled towards them over so called "crimes" involving rape, plunder, murder, and thievery, began to put their skill at sea to use in plying their wares everywhere from Lannisport to Qarth. Metalworking, one of the few crafts at which the Ironborn were truly talented, would thrive as blacksmiths and other artisans congregated in Lordsport and Nettlebank and took advantage of the Iron Isles' plentiful supply of iron, lead, and other metals to produce objects of fair quality even if they did lack the finesse seen in those products produced by foreign artisans. To a degree, Veron Greyjoy's reign would also breathe life into the Iron Isles' fledgling bureaucracy, which was itself more a collection of second-sons learned in matters of commerce and bookkeeping working for various benefactors than anything resembling the more modern concept of the bureaucracy, as the ejection of the Maesters and the creation of new Earls and Masters and Lendmen created a need for learned men able to assist in matters of rule.

After ruling for many decades, and outliving several of his sons, Balon and Alton Storm-Cloaked would perish side by side fighting against the Greyjoys of Laketown during the Second Invasion of the Sons of Dalton, and his grandson, Veron the Younger would perish of an illness believed to be tuberculosis, would eventually pass from this world into the next at the age of eighty seven though not before laying curses upon a dozen men and a dozen women as well as upon the gods of all his foes and upon Braavos and Tyrosh. His passing would be marked by five days of public mourning in the Iron Isles, during which time a hundred thralls would be sacrificed to serve him in the Drowned God's Hall, twelve ships would be burned to serve as his fleet, and enough ale would be drunk to turn the Trident brown.

---

Veron II Storm-Cloaked, called the Crouchback, and the Uncrowned King, Paramount of the Iron Isles and Lord Hereditary of Pyke (203-222)

---
Veron Crouchback, so named for he was often found crouching over a table, nose deep in some voluminous tome, would succeed his namesake the Storm-Cloaked shortly after his passing in 203AC. Named Paramount, by this point the Lord would dropped as the title became one akin to King in the eyes of the Ironborn, by the Shrike and crowned before a crowd of two hundred assembled noblemen and women, Veron Crouchback's ascension to the Seastone Chair would be a smooth one ensured by decades of work on Veron Storm-Cloaked's part meant to ensure stability upon his passing. Where his great-grandfather was known to be a cruel man whose name was reviled from one end of the world to the next, the Crouchback would prove to be a far more conciliatory beast with the new Paramount spending much of his reign attempting to improve the image of the Ironborn wherever men might pay him heed. During his reign the seasonal raids which had persisted during the Storm-Cloaked's reign would be outlawed altogether, and the punishment for breaking the decree raised high as the Caged Man's Wharf in Lordsport attests to, and many crimes and slights committed during his great-grandfather's reign forgiven and pardoned so as to bring the Iron Isles back together after decades under the Storm-Cloaked's iron fist.

Whether he would succeed in his efforts to improve the image of the Ironborn amongst the Greenlanders or not is debatable, though he himself would remarry to a Greenlander who would give him his three youngest children, it cannot truly be said if the Greenlanders ever truly chose to get over the bloody origins of the Ironborn, though his success in mending bridges in the Iron Isles is not. At the time of his death in 222AC, after walking into a door frame, the support the Earls and Lords gave to the Seastone Chair was at it's zenith and nary a man could be found in all the Isles who would speak ill of the Paramount and his House. Nevertheless, his reign would see the Isles begin to falter in wealth and prestige as the strain of maintaining the Iron Fleet saw it's number cut by a third and the strengthening of the Freehold and the Summer Isles brought about an end to all thoughts of foreign campaigns without the implicit backing of the Seven Kingdoms.

Vickon Storm-Cloaked, called the Zealot, Paramount of the Iron Isles and Lord Hereditary of Pyke (222-???)

---

If Veron the First was cold and ambitious and Veron the Second warm and contented, Vickon the Zealot is a man filled with divine fury. Born into an era in which the Church of the Drowned God pervaded every element of Ironborn society, from the Fishers who wander from village to village drowning newborns and leading prayers to the Drowned Men themselves who provide tutelage to young nobles and care for the various churches raised up by the Lords and Earls, Vickon unsurprisingly grew up to be a man filled with an unshakeable faith in his god. It would be during Vickon Storm-Cloaked's reign that the Conclave of Nagga would be called to make iron the doctrine of the Church, which varied from Shrike to Shrike up until that point, and during his reign that many a church and shrine to the Drowned God and his Aspects, who were themselves like saints to the Ironborn, would be raised. Such things would well and truly set him apart from his predecessors who had either neglected the Church, as was the case with Veron the Second, or merely used it as a tool to legitimise their rule as Veron the First had done.

It is little wonder then that a man so pious as Vickon has grown to become dissatisfied with the state of the Iron Isles for though the days in which the Ironborn reaved have long since passed them by, that unshakeable need for war and expansion has not. Thus the onset of war between King Maelys and Queen Rhaenys has been seen as a great opportunity for the Paramount for just as the Red Kraken, the Venerated Aspect of Reavers and Butchers, used the First Dance of the Dragons as a way to expand his holdings and improve the lot of the Ironborn, so too does Vickon the Zealot seek to do the same...

The Ravens of Pyke

From Left to Right; Euron Storm-Cloaked, the Master of Saltford, Veron Storm-Cloaked, the Earl of Lordsport, and Rodrik Storm-Cloaked, the Master of Codd Hall

---
"I daresay that thou shall soon find thyself abroad once more, dear brother, for war comes quickly to the Realm and there is not a soul possessed of the deft touch needed to forestall such grim tidings." Veron remarked to Rodrik as his fingers rapped upon the table and his eyes, a dark violet, fixed upon the goblet before him.

"Yes, I shall be sent hither and thither at the Crown's command ere too long, I should imagine." Rodrik agreed as he himself drank from his own goblet. "And fain as well for though I shall not think to claim great love for our King, monstrous thing that he is, I dare not think of a world in which a woman might usurp a man, usurp her husband, in flagrant defiance of those laws that which God hath laid down to govern his children."

"Damnation upon any woman who dares think to rise above her natural state." Came the echoing statement from Euron who, as the youngest, lurked the furthest away from his elder brothers. "To birth children and manage the household, to mend nets and count coppers, such as the lot of a woman. To rule, to wage war, such acts are an affront to God, hallowed be his name."

Veron nodded in agreement. "And so our father doth go to war, a ready champion for the rights of man, and we in our turn as well." He reached out and grasped the goblet. "Rodrik to the Royal Fleet, so that he might bring to our foes those honoured words of our liege, Euron to Pyke, ever hopeful that quills and words might prove as deadly a weapon as steel and powder, and I myself to Iron to lead God's Faithful against heathens and rebels alike."

"Lest we be left to peaceful pursuits whilst the Realm rages and roils whilst our backs are turned." Rodrik agreed as he raised his goblet.

"Lest we grow old and find that all thoughts of war and glory hath long since left us behind." Euron added, raising his goblet along with Rodrik.

"So let us tarry no longer then, dear brothers of mine." Veron declared, clanking his goblet against Rodrik and Euron's. "For a storm is coming and with it, our good fortune."

The economy of the Westerlands is by far the strongest on Westeros. With perfectly monitored gold stores and mining operations, the massive and modern port of Lannisport, the regal and bustling capitol of Casterly Rock, and the rich and arable soil of the Westerlands all come together to form the most bountiful polity of the continent. All of these boons are channeled through the ruling House Lannister's efficient administrative machine towards modern military innovation, giving them by far the most advanced and well trained forces on the continent. Trade on the east coast is smooth, and unharassed by raiding as the massive fleet of one hundred, bombard armed war galleys ensure the naval superiority of the Westerlands.

Military Strength:

An Arquebusier from the Westerlands, the finest in all of Westeros

Humbled by a revolt during the Dance, the defeated Lord Jason Lannister vowed that no power, within or without would ever be able to challenge Lannister power again. For the remainder of his life he obsessed with building a professional Lannister army that would answer only to Casterly Rock. This efforts was dismantled after his death due to the expense but the memory has lived on. Militarism is high in the Westerlands and every Lord of Casterly Rock has done his best to ensure his troops are the most disciplined and most advanced in Westeros, doing everything they can to have the smiths of the West produce the guns and cannon now popular in Essos. They have also sought to expand their power over the Westerlands. Through strategic marriages and threats of force the Lords of the Rock now have more authority over the West than they have at any time since Aegon's conquest.

The Summer Wedding commences, binding Logan and Rhaenys together in holy matrimony. The latter being crowned Queen of the Seven Kingdoms by the Septon of Casterly Rock following the ceremony. This prompted Lord Logan to order his uncle Daven, "the Black Lion", to marshal his forces for war with the Tainted King.

-The Alliance between House Lannister and House Rowan has managed to keep the latter independent, but the former requires their assistance and their bond will finally be put to the test.

- Lord Logan, always seeking improvement, looks to build two more Grand Bombards. Hopefully they will be built swiftly enough to see entry into the war. (1/?)

The Martells of the last century
The Ruling line of House Martell barely survived the rigors of the Dance, and the intriguing of the years that followed. The Regency days, followed by the Daynewar, took the Martells of Sunspear to the edge, and it was only by luck and faith that House Martell maintained its seat and position. Prince Garin Martell was the first of the Post-Yronwood Prince of Dorne, and was a firm ally (some would say puppet) of the Daynes of Starfall in their purge of the countryside, and was swift to give consent to a marriage of his sister to a Dayne. While the cadet branch of the Martells of Sunshield that followed is nominally independent, it doesn't take a genius to see that the colors of the arms of a White Star and Spear on a purple field are identical to the Daynes.

Prince Garin was much more at home abroad then at home, and while the foreign connections garnered by his trips to Yi Ti, Asshai by the Shadow, Mossovy and more were useful, at home Dorne was dominated by the Daynes, the Princess Dowager Lysandra Velaryon, and Garin's wife Nymeria. Prince Garin himself stayed only briefly and far between in Westeros -- where he was badly scarred while visiting Good Queen Visenya at Dragonstone -- before disappearing at sea with much of the Dornish fleet at the age of 49.

The reign of Prince Maron Martell was eventful only in its uneventfulness. Prince Maron managed to balance the competing camps of the Daynes, the few surviving schismatics, die-hard independents, Yronwood loyalists, Essosi migrants, and the growing number of Dornishmen who began to look to the East for succor. Maron's Dorne was a passive one, that saw the dissolution of much of the Dornish fleet, and a downsizing of feudal military requirements, though that was partially made up for by the establishment of arsenals. Maron survived the intrigue and chaos by doing nothing to antagonize anyone, and bowed to 'requests' by Faith, Crown, and Freehold alike. Prince Maron died of fever at the age of 46.

He was succeeded by Prince Daemon Martell, whose reign was marked by a growing cosmopolitanism in Dorne. Prince Daemon was the first among the Martells to disavow the Seven, taking up the worship of the old gods of the Rhoynar -- though others in his family worshiped the Red God, Weeping Lady, Maiden of Light, and others-- and welcomed immigrants from across the Freehold and the Seven Kingdoms. In a world marked by religious absolutism in the West and the staring contest between Goat and Dragon in the East, Dorne offered a sanctuary to those caught in the middle. Prince Daemon's personal life was marked by sorrow, as several of his children died before their time. Prince Daemon died of gout at the age of 58.

Prince Daemon's reign was followed by that of Prince Aron Martell, who died in a tourney accident only two years after his father, at the age of 19. He was succeeded by his sister, Arianna.

Princess Arianna Martell never expected to become the ruler of Dorne, and like her ancestor was more at home on a ship's deck then on a throne. Returning home from a voyage to the Freehold weeks after word reached her of her brother's death, Arianna was immediately met by word of the crisis brewing between the West and the Throne...

Princess of Dorne, I wish thee good tidings in these dark times that seem so plagued by the promise of conflict. As thy support shall undoubtedly be critical to ensuring the stability of the Realm and the continuation of the proper line of succession, I would ask if thou intends to support good King Maelys or if thy ships doth intend to sail for the renegade Rhaenys. I would further ask that, as thou art unwed, if thou would think to take as husband my youngest son, the Master of Saltford, young Euron, and so bind our two Houses, so alike in affection for the sea and the sail, together in marriage.

  • The Riverlands possess fertile soil for growing varieties of grain as well a limited production of grapes for winemaking. Furthermore, the rivers themselves provide an ideal means for transporting them throughout the Riverlands and beyond, especially since the canal allows smaller vessels to travel from one end of Westerso to the other. Unfortunately, given the land's central location, the Riverlands's economy is easily disrupted during times of war.

Northern History

Ever since Rickon (The Good) Stark outlawed the use of pants for the good of the realm in the Pants act of 167 AL. The Northmen instead adopted the use of the kilt. The kilt provided a multitude of advantages such as freedom of movements as well it being warm. Its upper half could provide a voluminous cloak against the weather, it dried out quickly and with much less discomfort than trousers and, if required it could, by the mere undoing of the belt, provide a very adequate overnight blanketing.

It was also largely waterproof.

The Kilt has been largely incorporated in Northen history and culture. Alongside the bagpipes and the worship of the Old Gods.

Lord Vickon,
House Martell will rise for the True and Rightful Monarch of the Seven Kingdoms, and, as ably as thine forebearers did, fight on behalf of the Targaryen crown. As for the prospects of a bond of matrimony with your child Euron, I will neither say yea nor nay. I am beset by many suitors, all able and valiant.

The Martells of Sunspear will fight for the rightful ruler of Westeros. That said, I would urge the Lord of the Marches to look to his own fellows. The power of the Reach is not what it once was, and the days when Tarly, Caron, Peake or some other marcher could dictate policy to the Lords of Dorne is long gone.

What of House Tyrell or the other Marshals? Will House Rowan allow a Tarly as their overlord? Will the ex-stewards welcome my House's ascent?
Talk is cheap. Show me actions towards this goal and i will pledge myself and my armies to your cause.

Talk is cheap, but the facts are bared plain before you. The Hightowers are my natural enemy, as Prince Daemon is a claimant to the throne against my wife, Queen Rhaenys, and must be broken. The Rowans are pledged to me in an alliance, because their position too fragile. If you offer them the same deal we did, I'm sure they'd come back into the fold of a unified Reach under House Tarly.

They will have the same protection anyone who has the right to claim themselves an overlord should offer. If your honeyed words cannot convince them to pledge themselves anew to me then nothing i can say will make any difference.

Dearest aunt,

It is very likely my uncle will he called away to deal with House Lannister, and I fear for Dragonstone's safety in these troubled times. Of course, having the Lady of Dragonstone abandon it in a time of crisis...well, that simply won't do. But it would ease my mind if you sent Cousin Daena to King's Landing. I am sure Aethan would appreciate it as well, he's having a bit of trouble settling in at the Red Keep.

Yes, that would be for the best. Send Daena to King's Landing, you remain on Dragonstone.
