[X][Nameless]She's a puzzle I want to figure out.
[X][March]I find her a bit much, to be honest.

Showing up to disagree because I can.

I actually played star rail earlier today. Good characterization on march. You captured her nature as an upbeat henchwoman perfectly. Even though she isn't cute, she's definitely worth keeping around.

[X][March]I find her a bit much, to be honest.
I'm voting for this now. Sure we could find March cute, and that would be cute, but if we find her slightly annoying, and she becomes the upbeat idiot Stella has to deal with, that's comedy. Every Kenpachi needs a Yachiru, and since we are aiming to become a Kenpachi(scar ridden, fight loving masochist with a sword who throws themselves in harms way alot) we might as well make march our Yachiru. Comedy duo for the win.

Honestly? March riding on our backs, pointing us towards fights and putting up shields when things try to attack from behind is a fun image.

>The [Situation] is making you feel Euphoric.
>[Nameless] is most definitely a new friend!
>You find [March] pretty cute.

The elevator has been rising for a while now, just enough time to get your head on straight. As straight as it can be, in the current circumstances.

The sword you chose on a gut feeling is intriguing to be sure, shrouded in mystery. Above all else though, you think she's a new friend. She won't be as lonely as she first was ever again, as long as you're around. You'll make sure of it.

Your attention shifts to your right, where the girl whom you're leaning against hums a small tune. March 7th… throughout all of the chaos of the last hour or so, she's been a constant presence. You don't mind that, though. She's been helpful, cheery, and all-around pleasant.

<Electrochemistry[Easy:Success] Easy: 8 vs Your Total: 10> And utterly adorable.

You suppose so, yes. You find her pretty cute.

Lastly… the situation. Everything you've experienced thus far. You feel… euphoric. It has been such a mess, but you wouldn't have it any other way. The adrenaline pumping, the improvisation, the feeling of an enemy falling before you. Hell, even the pain seems to be making it better, somehow.

Thoughts are, essentially, researchable perks. They can be gained through repetitive actions or certain choices. They take a certain amount of updates to research, and provide different stat bonuses/deficits while actively researching and after it is complete.
Only one thought can be currently internalizing at a time, and you can start researching a Thought as soon as it is gained, or during an End-of-Day debrief.

>Thought gained: High-Functioning Masochist
You've noticed something. You seem to be getting yourself into situations where you get hurt. Not by accident, or miscalculation. You seem to be sprinting towards pain like a long-lost friend. Why is that? Is there something you get out of it?

Research time: 3 updates.

While Researching:
+1 Electrochemistry: Lit flame.
-1 Drama: Can't lie to yourself.

Upon Internalization:
+2 Pain Threshold: Loving it.
-1 Half Light: Headfirst into danger.
Heals Morale by ½ of any Health damage taken.

[] Start researching.
[] Hold off, for now.

A small ding is heard as the elevator completes its ascent, and the door opens. Outside is a large open room, looking just as aggressively scientific as the rest of the space station so far. Researchers and security guards are rushing about this 'Master Control Zone', some attempting to organize more rescue parties, others simply panicking.

"Why do things always have to get so exciting…?" And of course, the woman right in front of you, with fiery red hair and an elaborate dress. "Anyway, at least you're back and safe."

"Some of us safer than others! We could've used some help down there, Himeko!"

"Sorry March, but I wouldn't have made much of a difference. My orbital cannon could deal with a fair few, but not without putting a hole through the space station - Herta would not be pleased." She turns to you and quickly evaluates your state. "I should be able to help out a bit now, however. There's an emergency aid station set up nearby that I can lead you to soon. Arlan, are you alright? Asta's been worried."

"I'm fine. Nothing a quick patch-up won't fix, thanks for asking. I'll report the situation to Lead Research Asta immediately. Bye." He quickly walks away from the group, his sense of duty stronger than his wish for small talk.

Himeko's attention turns back to the three of you. "We should head over there as well, to soothe Asta's worries, after we get you over to the aid station… oh. Firstly I suppose I should introduce myself fully. I'm Himeko, the navigator of the Astral Express. It's nice to meet you."

The… Astral Express? For some reason that name brings discord to your mind, a near replica of when you first woke up, even Nameless seems to have joined in this time, pulsing ominously. The voices speak up once more, but instead of their usual 'helpful' comments, it's more like they're… quoting something. Or someone.

<Endurance?> In the near future, you will encounter all kinds of perils and hardships…

<Electrochemistry?>…but you will also have many wonderful experiences.

<Esprit de Corps?> You'll meet companions who treat you like family…

<Inland Empire?> ...and embark on surreal adventures with them.

<Volition?> At the end of your journey all that perplexes you and troubles you will resolve.

<Visual Calculus?> This is your future that Elio has foreseen.

"...do you like it?" It's her. The spider. Kafka. Your mind spirals, deeper and deeper until…

"Ahem, and this is Stelle! She's… a little star-struck, I guess…?" Your mind jolts back to the present, right, introductions. "You should take it as a compliment! Despite everything we just went through she hasn't reacted like anything close to this!" March seems to be… 'covering' for you, despite her clear misconceptions.

"Sorry… Yes, I'm Stelle. It's lovely to meet you Himeko." Perhaps not the best first impression, but she seems to be taking it in stride.

"Not a problem, but I'm surprised March is already speaking for you so easily… she hasn't been any trouble for you along the way, has she?" A hint of amusement can be seen rather easily on her face.

"You should think carefully about how you reply to that Stelle…" March has a point, you are still using her as a crutch… but she wouldn't drop you anyway, no matter her 'threats'.

"I've never met a more lively girl in my life." Not that your known life is very long… but still, it's true.

"See! That's the joy of youth! I knew someone else would get it, see, Dan Heng?"

"...No need to bring me into this." Oh, you suppose you could've just used the Dan Heng technique of not answering. Ah well, she seems to have liked the non-compliment anyway.

"Haha, well, you two seem to have gotten pretty close already. Let's get Stelle some medical attention, alright?" You certainly won't complain. You have a feeling this invasion won't exactly be wrapped up cleanly.

<Shivers[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 11> The tendrils of Destruction still keep their grip steady…

While it isn't perfect, as a majority of the station's systems and resources are scattered or lost, after a couple hours the medics there have you feeling far better. (+13 Health)

Also, the 'armor' from March, shattered into snowflakes not long after you first laid down. You wonder if it's on a time limit or if it's concentration based… No matter, you have a Lead Researcher you still haven't spoken to. (Lost all Temporary Health)

As you make your way to meet this 'Asta', blaring klaxons and bright red alerts start blaring and shining across the entire Control Zone. A life security feed of a massive Voidranger, vaguely dragon-shaped, tearing into the station's barrier. The now identified Trailblazers rush past you. Rather, almost rush past you, as March quickly grabs your arm and drags you with.

"Sorry for the rough treatment, but we need to get out of here!"

<Half Light[Easy:Success] Easy: 8 vs Your Total: 10> Far away from the massive dragon thing, definitely preferable.

Following the Astral Express crew you learn many things very quickly, first of all, Himeko supposedly believes that the station should be fine, as it's Herta's creation. Secondly, Dan Heng believes that the Legion are far more prepared for this than the station, and you all, on top of their blessing of Destruction. Thirdly and most terrifyingly, is the huge Voidranger's name as 'Doomsday Beast', and its identity as a planet destroyer.

"-...That's why we have to leave and take Stelle with us, I believe she could be the one to turn the tides… Of course, I may be wrong."

…There is a new most terrifying fact for you. She seems to be putting a lot of faith into an amnesiac. Nameless seems to notice your trepidation because, "No need to fear, dear Wielder. With me by your side no mere 'Doomsday Beast' shall be able to fell you."

<Composure[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 13(Roll: 10 + Composure: 2 + Nameless' Reassurance: 1)> You take a deep breath and calm your heart. There's no guarantee you'll be fighting it, the plan is to do the opposite after all.

If you have to though, you'll feel a little more ready, at least. Still though, for now you should focus on trying to get to the Supply Zone, where the Express will be able to pick you up.

<Physical Instrument[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 12(Roll 8 + Physical Instrument: 4)> These riff-raff aren't anything special when you're healthy and they're spread out. Easy pickings.

Nameless shreds through any Voidranger you can get your hands on, all of your other sides covered by March, Dan Heng, and Himeko. Most notably, you find your attention drawn to the navigator. Her weapon, at least, as it is baffling. Some strange drone she also uses like a massive… pizza cutter? It will take quite a while to get used to that, you can tell.

<Esprit de Corps[Easy:Success] Easy: 8 vs Your Total: 9> Your teamwork is improving steadily, as well. You find yourself automatically following up Dan Heng's attacks, and quickly making space for March when the Legion get too close.

Along the way, you find yourself to be partially stopped at intervals by strange obstacles, which Himeko explains are security measures that were quickly activated.

<Logic[Trivial:Success] Trivial: 6 vs Your Total: 8> These 'security measures' seem more like children's puzzles… It works for the Antimatter Legion because they don't have much intellect, but you can't imagine it working for nearly any other possible intruder.

Ignoring the generally insulting difficulty of the security -maybe Geniuses underestimate normal people's intelligence?- the group makes smooth progress. Smooth enough that you make it to the Storage Zone in record time.

"Aww yeah, it's the platform!" March seems to have forgotten about the nearby planet destroyer in her excitement. "Now, where's the Express…? It has to be nearby, let me go take a peek with my sharp eyes!"

The platform is empty, and ominous. Not a person nor Voidranger in sight.

<Shivers[Medium: Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 11> But the air is alight with tension. No going back.

"Wait, March!" Someone calls out. You can't quite tell who, for all you know it was yourself.

<Half Light[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 10> You can feel your heart pumping rapidly, hard enough you can hear it, the blood rushing to your head.

The Doomsday Beast has arrived, an advent of Destruction. It gives a small window of time for March to jump back before it lands on the platform with as much force as a hurricane.

Your mind is scrambled, the voices are scrambled, your companions are scrambled. The only saving grace is that you can somehow feel Nameless' determination pouring into you.

So, brain firing on all cylinders, how are you going to do this?

<Visual Calculus[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 10(Roll: 7 + Visual Calculus: 3)> Your forgotten combat knowledge changes your view of the world, helping predict the Beast's movements… you could try to focus on this.

<Esprit de Corps[Easy:Success] Easy: 8 vs Your Total: 9(Roll: 6 + Esprit de Corps: 3)> Your team is here too, don't forget. Just a bit of trust and you'll get through this.

<Physical Instrument[Challenging:Success] Challenging: 12 vs Your Total: 14(Roll: 10 + Physical Instrument: 4)> Your adrenaline's pumping already… No need to think, here. Show your might.

<Reaction Speed[Medium:Success] Medium: 10 vs Your Total: 11(Roll: 8 + Reaction Speed: 3) It's slow… Large and imposing, sure. But stagnant, far more show of force than any quick thinking. Easy enough to run circles around.

"A mighty foe to vanquish already, hmm? What a first day with my new Wielder. Let's show this hooligan exactly who should be feared here."

You heard her, Stelle.

(Don't forget to vote for the thought activation as well!)
Your first time thinking! Congrats. A rather quick trek to the Doomsday Beast, but to be fair you were down and out for a while, so there wasn't much you could do to help out. The Aeonic Intervention is a guarantee this time because you should have been able to proc it back when the Trampler fired on you, but I forgot.

I was originally planning to have a bit more time before the first Thought showed up, but I mean, c'mon guys. You picked Euphoric as a write-in. That has to count towards multiple masochistic actions. Thanks to the help of your skills you finally remember what Kafka first said to you, also that Kafka exists. I was going to have you meet Asta before heading off to get healed but I really doubt Himeko would bring you over there with large pieces of shrapnel still in you. I also didn't really realize how quickly everything happens in the prologue in HSR. You get to the Master Control Zone, and after talking to, like, three people, the Doomsday Beast shows up. So I atleast gave you some time to heal up, can't be too mean just yet. Good luck fighting that thing!

The dice are kind today it seems, managed to succeed every roll on that update.
Kinda want to see what happens when we lean into a skill set that isn't our strongest, get a feel for how that flows for future reference. Also gotta get that Aeon call, the chaos must flow!

We've invested in it, might as well use it. Plus, the combo of low health + low morale is not a great one, better to alleviate one of those things at least.

Well, may as well use the sword's special ability. With that sort of power, it feels aligned with destruction itself.

[X] Fully open your senses.

We are going into a boss battle. I appreciate peoples desire to raise our lowest stat, but feel anything less than our middling stats just isn't going to cut it against this boss this early. In addition, our greatest chunk of damage came from an ambush we didn't see coming until the last moment and were force to tank. Higher Motorics and thus higher perception would help with that.

[X] Feed Nameless (Actively lowering Health in return for bonuses to all combat rolls)

Aeons? Who needs um. Best blade battle buddy for the win.

[X] Let your body do its thing.

Alas, more popular than motorics, preferable to mind.

The thonk doesn't do any particularly bad short-term thinks, and health-to-morale is actually pretty good. The second choice is about the stat we lean on while fighting the boss, I think? In that case, physique is fairly obvious choice.

IDK about Intervention, I kinda wanna blow up something actually important with our call to the heavens, instead of ...tutorial stage boss?

Oh and yeah, use the sword.

Hell yeah! The real answer is that it's really easy to throw your character into combat when you're not actually there in the flesh, but I'm sure our girl has a reason as well.

So, how's this work? The way I've seen it work in other quests is that an option gets selected if more than half of the total voters vote for it, but I don't want to assume.

Also, the other reason I'd prefer something besides mind, is I'm aiming for the Kenpachi experience. Very physical, great Motorics, some Empathy, not all that bright, loves a challenging fight. Besides, some of the more fun parts are where the obvious ability fails and your forced to get creative with your other abilities. Jack of all trades might work, but it tends to be less interesting narratively.
