Epoch: A Grand-Strategy Quest

I'm still open to that...but I think having a river where the river spirits love us is a boost we can't ignore. I'm sure we will traverse upwards later...Plus we might want to wait for the Indus River Valley civ (if Arthellion is letting the rest of the worl follow its historical course ) to rise and fall before competing for that space up there.

Hm, true. Then we can scavenge their shinies and take their advances for ourselves too.

Man the whole idea of gods is so surreal. So you worship a god. A powerful god, mighty and wise, directing the fate of the cosmos. But wait! They're powerful but not so powerful that they can thrive without our constant prayer and sacrifice.

It's a paradox. Any god worthy of worship has no need for zealous worshipers, and any god who demands zealous worship probably isn't worth worshiping. But then, humans have always been good at rationalizing. We're also not good at thinking clearly about things that make us uncomfortable.

Well I've gotten a bit off topic here, but hey. Maybe this discussion can be the foundation of Velses philosophical tradition. That would be cool.

Ya considering magic is real I doubt this will be a thing.
I'm sure there will be equivalents. Perhaps even an alt-history shift where magic preserves them.

A god might not need worship, but that doesn't mean you don't enjoy it. It's basically kissing up to the boss, or at least the manager. If you do it right, they make your life vastly easier. But you can fuck it up. Bad. And then your life is (literally) hell! :p:lol

History is going to be interesting for sure. I will say y'all can reasonably assume that the places where you aren't moving around will follow some of the historic path...just with some added flair.

I'm sure you will look forward to it when you guys get your first Great Philosopher Figure then. That' character's updates are going to be a doozy.

Ugh, but a god who doesn't need worship at all but demands it anyway is even worse. Then he's just a bad boss, granting favors to the brown nosers. We don't like those people in office jobs, this is so much worse.

Imagine gods who do what they do because they're good at it. It's who they are. And then get uncomfortable and irritated when people worship them and beg for favor. Actually get insulted by our petty attempts at self promotion. A god worthy of the title merely is.

.
This is assuming of course that the Omnipotent God created humanity with Free Will...

After all, aren't you all playing God right now. With these tiny little creatures made up of words on a screen?

Don't worry, we will get to those updates eventually. If you don't die.

I can categorically say that I am unworthy of worship and I would tell any attempted worshippers that the point of free will is that they don't have to listen to me. Find a better way. Learn, expolre, discovers. And if they decide free will means they should institute an evil authoritarian state fueled by human sacrafice and thought policing, well, that's a self correcting problem. Eventually.

Id anyone's familiar with Vertigos Sandman and Lucifer graphic novels, that's generally my view. Gods and godlike beings as people, powerful and eccentric, but with all their own hang ups. And ultimately, perhaps faith from the ground up instead of top down is a better path.

I've goten into this now, you've got me looking forward to our first great philosopher. I'm thinking Socrates, but even more irreverent.
