The premise is simple. You, Players, are an author who is working on their Magnum Opus. Their masterpiece. Their Mona Lisa. Their Sistine Chapel.

But all great works have to start somewhere, don't they?

[X] Write In

Reserving this spot in case I need it.

Expect updates at least once a week, every week, barring something extreme. If I feel particularly inspired, I'll update multiple times in a week.

I have no clue what to do, so I'll switch my vote once someone comes up with a better write-in.

Choose your genre:

[X] Seafaring
-[X] Slice of life, fantasy, comedy, exploration, ruins, archeology, civilizations lost in time, shipping teases

What's The Intro Scene?
[X] Protagonist wakes up next to his crush on an unrecognizable beach, after a wild night of partying with comrades on their exploration sailing ship.

I'm a little surprised science-fiction wasn't included among the options.

I am really tempted to write-in Fanfiction.

I'll be honest. In the interest of fairness, and all.

I put up the top five that would interest me if I was playing/I knew I could write without a hitch.

NOW, that's what the Write In option is for. If I only write within my comfort zone, I'll never grow, will I?

So, if you want to write it in, go for it. Nothing (within reason) is off limits.

Carry on.

[X] Epic
-[X] Galaxy spanning war between magic and science.

[X] Main character stumbles upon a hybrid magi/sci ship while exploring a valley.

Choose your genre:
[X] Desert Punk
- [X] Post-apocalyptic desert world, scavenger world/economy, what you are in the dark.

What's The Intro Scene?
[X] The protagonist is riding into a settlement on her trusty giant lizard mount, materials and items of all kinds sticking out from the bags on its sides, sighing with relief that she made it before the sandstorm truly began raging.

[x] Epic
[x] A mixture of politics and warfare, with several ideologies competing for power each designed to get sympathy from the reader. Some degree of realism and research, but most of the fighting and strategies is designed to make the characters seem unrealistically awesome.

I know I won't get it, but this would be my favourite.

Intro Scene:
[x] One protagonist amongst many in the story is an epic battle by himself against an entire army, and manages to kill hundreds of men before reinforcements arrive to bail him out leading the enemy to rout in fear.

It seems most people want their primary idea. That's understandable, but maybe we should have second choices to break the otherwise inevitable tie?

For me, second choice would be trooperist.

[X] Fantasy
-[X] Magic, Knights, Humans only, Drama, Intrigue

[X] The main character, a self taught non registered mage, flees from the guards.

I could come up with my own idea, but I just horde those jealously for my own writing. You know, that mythical time in the future when I'll have time to write.

Update between 30 minutes and 4 hours, depending on how votes go.

Seems to be a lead for Trooperist's Fantasy vote so far.

[X] Fantasy
-[X] Knights, Dragons, Maidens captured by Dragons, Spooky Magic, bad british accents, and ye olde english!
Opening
[X] A lowly squire watches his Knight fall in battle. He proceeds to pick up his sword and carve his own legacy.

[X] trooperist

Cause why not.
I kinda want horror but I don't read nor watch horror...
*sigh*

Arc Zero, Insert One: Introduction

An abandoned alleyway plays host to a small crow with glinting, ambitious eyes. He hops across from one side to the other, spying a quaint little female crow, grooming herself in a pool of fading light. As he closes in, the light streams in through the nearby gate, coating his feathers in an iridescent glint that he is sure to catch her eye. Just as she raises her head to peer curiously at him, the gate slams open, causing them to flee to opposite sides of the sky.

Angry at his failed conquest, the tiny crow peers down at the cloaked and hooded figure running away from the loud, armored ones. It seems as if the Cloaked Human will escape until three more Loud Humans appear at the other end of the alley. Maybe they'll all eat each other and he could finish wooing the pretty bird he saw.

This is short, you have to build the world that's being played in. I'll accept any Omakes or things of the sort as canon, if others agree on it. Have fun!

[X] Only ritualistic
[X] Registered mages forward their research to the government, to be sorted, filed, ranked, and watched for corruption. Unregistered mages tend to make very dangerous spells, like ones to liquefy internal organs, or turn waste into gold at rates beyond the accepted market standard.

[X] The protagonist was taught several very powerful rituals that, in the right hands, can end the bitter war against Demonkind. Unfortunately, with a government as corrupt as the Mageorium, such magic would inevitably lead to horrific war. The power to bind, banish, and even destroy souls, is something that the protagonist's Master believed mankind could not be trusted with.
[X] Forbidden. The protagonist is very knowledgeable about things Man Was Not Meant To Know. Sure, they know what a fireball spell does, mechanically, but in practice, they're fairly mediocre at doing things the normal way.

[X] The crow is used as the reagent of a rope-conjuring spell by one of the guards. Their quarry reveals they are able to break one of the most basic rules of Magic - teleportation is nothing but a fanciful theory.

Just to be clear- by 'only ritualistic' you allow for brief 'rituals' for battle purposes right? Our protagonist needs to be able to fight like an action hero if necessary.

EDIT: I'm willing to vote for Mecrazyfang for lack of time for the moment, but only on the privso that an afterlife exists. Otherwise it makes no sense that binding, banishing, and destroying souls is so valuable.

Eh. I'm willing to change 'demons' to something else, if necessary.

I have no objection to the existence of demons myself- I just want a logical reason why the power over souls is considered so vitally important, and either magical or battle abilities so our protagonist can fight like an action hero.

My thoughts on rituals might be different than yours. Some examples:

1) Sacrificial/Equivalent exchange: Destroy something of value to fuel a spell. More valuable, stronger or more complex spells allowed.

2) Proxy rituals: inscriptions on an item allow a spell to be used through it. Would wear away at the item with each use, requiring frequent replacements for stronger dealies.

3) Sketches: magic only manifests after having the correct pentagram or whatever drawn/engraved on something

4) Advanced preparation: spells require specific movements and chants for each before the spell activates. Maybe all but the last word/movement can be done in advance, so the last thing can be used in battle/when needed.

Depends on how you want magic to work. Would help to be specific.
