1 What do you call a story made from the broken stories of the heroes and villains that didn't get to be heroes or villains? What do you call a story made from the ruined stories of those who were once villains and heroes?
They say that the world was different, that people used to live in various cities, and that everyone was free to go wherever they wanted. That one part of the world was so different from the other, that being poor didn't mean the same thing.
Sometimes people wonder what that was like, to live without having to worry about someone dying and starting a zombie outbreak, or something crawling its way out of the ocean and into the sewers.
A world where Orks didn't attack the towers whenever their number grew and where people weren't separated between those who were born with powers and those who weren't.
What do you call the world that exists between the end of the world and the beginning of the new one?
The streets of Tower Three were constantly moving either the street moved to help people go wherever they had to go, or the people walked or drove to their destinations, either way, the streets were never empty, it didn't matter if it was night or day.
The five towers each one is so tall that they can be seen from space and go so far underground that people wonder if they somehow managed to reach the other side of the world.
The elders say that Chaos forced different worlds to crash into each other and that it was because of chaos that they became one giant planet instead of breaking apart as they should have.
The towers can be separated into three parts, the the bunker, the fortress, and the city. Everyone is given five chess pieces that separate into these things to remind us that even now Humanity has something to look forward to, as one day the cities and the fortresses will leave to settle another part of the world.
"And what else?"
"Well, that's all I wrote," Max answered his teacher while listening to the silence and feeling the eyes of the other students in the room. His teacher glared at him before closing her eyes and ignoring him again.
"Breeders that's what they called women before the ban on education was lifted and the vaults that kept the people's history were opened so that we could know where we came from and how we ended up this way."
"While some may claim that a divide between the people has occurred those that claim these things ignore the fact that anyone who has enough wealth will soon lose it."
Max ignored the teacher's lesson and turned to look out the window he could see the tear in reality constantly spinning, growing, shrinking, while staying completely still.
He felt his head hurt every time he looked at it, sometimes it looked as if things were flying out of it, that entire armies were marching towards the towers, but then he would blink and those things would be gone.
"Because we come from different worlds we are different, some of us have stronger bodies than others, some can use magic and some are simply more intelligent than others." his teacher's words brought him back to reality.
"What good is a powerful body if disease still affects you? What good is being smarter than everyone else, if a fool with a sword can cut your head off?"
"Can any of you tell me what good is your magic, if technology can match it and on occasion surpass it?" the teacher says to everyone, his teacher's words hanging in the air as if they were spears ready to pierce them and end their lives.
"The towers have sent unmanned drones into the world and they have found a few unsettling things." she says to them as the images of mummified bodies moving through the streets of a long-dead city appear behind her.
The image changes and there are elves, but they are different from the ones that live in the towers, these have an unnatural beauty to them, but their eyes are filled with madness. It's the kind of madness that promises a horrifying death and yet Max can't help but stare at them.
"It seems that others survived the catastrophe and now that the storms are beginning to calm, we will soon meet with them."
The room filled with murmurs as the students talked about what the teacher revealed to them.
"We will soon take back our world and if we are lucky we won't be alone. We will find allies and we will rebuild." she says to them before telling them to leave.
Max watches as the other students leave the room before finally getting up and walking out. He can see the endless floors of the tower both from above and below. He used to be afraid of falling or that someone would fall on top of him, that is until he finally understood that the floors were just transparent.
No one was allowed to have secrets in the tower, but that didn't stop people from having them.
No one could see inside anyone else's house, but everone could see who came and went from one place to another, so if someone was having an affair it wouldn't be long before everyone knew.
Murder, stealing, and even gang violence were still as common as they had ever been, but those responsible were easily found by the authorities.
The problem was those who tried to hide their mutations, those people could hide their deformed body parts underneath the clothes they wore. Sometimes those people would have extra arms and legs things that a simple surgery could remove but for whatever reason those people always tried to hide them.
He looked down and watched the ninjas train as they jumped from one building to another, he couldn't help but wonder what they traded to be allowed to keep their powers inside the tower. It must have been something powerful because nothing was restraining their powers despite how dangerous they were for everyone else.
He could still remember when the things around him were fictional, sometime he would smile when he remembered how safe the world was back then. There were times that he would just laugh like a madman when he remembered how he and a lot of others wished to live in the worlds that they now existed in.
"What am I going to do?" Max asked himself, it was almost time for him to choose what he would do for the rest of his life.
If he joined the guard he would forever stand watch staring at a wall at the sky, the floor the world. If he became a worker, then that was it, he would work wherever he was needed, maybe he would one day tell others where to go but that would be the best he could ever hope for.
He could join the exploration teams, he would go outside look for a safe place, and build houses for the people that would live in them.
Of course, he could not choose and he would be forced to find work for the rest of his life. No one was going to force him to choose, but no one was going to help him live for free either.
Researchers and magicians still had to choose what they were going to do just like the lower classes, but there was always money waiting for them no matter where they went. Unfortunately for him, he was a normal person without any special abilities meaning that he had to prove himself no matter where he went.
