Twenty years ago, an invasion began. The fight to save mankind was brief, and the consequences of failure have been long-lasting. ADVENT, a puppet organization in charge of the relations of humanity and the alien overlords, has an iron-grip upon most of mankind. XCOM is nothing more than a mere after-thought to the public. Having been betrayed by the very council who forged the organization, XCOM was left as a scapegoat in the eyes of the public.
The twisted words of ADVENT's Speaker have woven a fabricated truth into the mind of the public. That falsification being that the aliens originally came in peace and that XCOM provoked the war, causing alien retaliation. Now, ADVENT reigns over mankind.
As ADVENT's reign has continued on, they began to splice human DNA into that of their own forces. Sectoid's became taller, stronger, and more deadly. The need for Thin Men has been rendered null. Experimentation has been underway for years, splicing together the DNA of these species. Eventually, the Elders uplifted three of who they deemed to be mankind's finest into The Chosen, who each govern over their own section of the world.
However, even with their complete control over mankind, unrest yet remains. Mysterious disappearances of ADVENT Forces, various different resistance groups, and even traitors amongst themselves have been plaguing the aliens' rule. There have even been rumors that XCOM is still out there, biding their time.
Recent rumors are hinting at a new faction against ADVENT. Resistance troops are coming across ADVENT camps only to find bodies of the enemy strung up from the trees, having been skinned. Corpses with their spine and skull having been torn out. ADVENT patrols who seem to have been surrounded on all sides without any trace of who they were fighting. Something else is out there, hunting ADVENT.
The hunt, of and the fight against ADVENT wages on still, even now while twenty years have passed. Those twenty years have seen the supposed rise of heroes, and those years have also seen those very heroes fall. You do not claim to be a hero. You don't claim to be a savior. You're simply on a mission.
Or are you on the Hunt?
What the Hell are you?
[ ] Human: You're a human, on a mission to bring ADVENT to their knees.
[ ] Hunter: You are an intergalactic hunter, not from this world, and you are on the hunt.
Hello, and welcome to XCOM: The Hunt Begins. This is a crossover quest placed into the world of a modified XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. This particular quest has been long in the works, and I'm glad it's finally able to see the light of day. I hope that fans of XCOM and the other crossover elements can enjoy this quest for what it is and will be.
As you can tell, the choice of what the main character will be will have a dramatic impact on the thematic elements of the quest, and how it runs in general. For now, let's focus on character generation. We're simply going to determine what our main character is, before defining who they are in the next vote.
Be civilized in your discussions. This quest has some very mature themes, everything from violence to (potentially) romance. I expect everyone to act reasonably.
This is a narrative quest, and there are no numbers based mechanics. While it may come from a misunderstanding of how to utilize dice in a quest format, I've had bad experiences with them messing up how I would like to write a scene. The only time I'll use anything slightly RNG will be to break a vote.
Weighted votes will be implemented as to what is the most in character for our chosen protagonist. As a side note to this.
Write-In Policy: Through the introductory stages of the quest, I will not be accepting write-ins. This is to try to allow you to familiarize yourself with who you are playing as. Once I allow write-ins, if I feel they are not something the character would actually do, they will be veto'd.
I thoroughly enjoy the discussion aspect of questing. The interaction with a somewhat 'live' audience who is there to question everything that they can so they can guide the player character along the path of not being maimed horribly is a very welcome part of questing. Feel free to ask me questions, as I assure you there are things that I may not have thought of.
I will not reveal information to you that isn't discovered in character. I am neither working against you or with you. All paths are available because I allow them to be, and I won't actively go out of my way to make things difficult or put you and the PC into a scenario that you cannot win.
Omake Policy: While I do not expect omakes anytime in the near future if at all, they are certainly welcomed. In the event that they appear, I shall add them to the threadmark index and trademark them. I shall also decide if they are canon or not.
I'll be updating this whenever I need to, depending on what comes up.
[X] Hunter: You are an intergalactic hunter, not from this world, and you are on the hunt.
Unless I'm massively mistaken, this option means that we are playing as a Predator. As the saying goes, you should just be yourself. Unless you can be a Predator, in which case, always choose to be a Predator.

Predators are known to hunt various species. Whatever they deem to be 'worthy prey', which includes humans. In this case, ADVENT and the Ethereals have several different, very dangerous and intelligent species under their control. Chrysalids, Vipers, Sectoids even. All would be a worthy trophy. They could be hunting anything, really.
This does not discredit the possibility of xenomorphs being in this quest in some way, shape or form.

Already fearing the implications if Facehuggers infect a Muton or even a "mere" Sectoid..
Xenomorphs are bad enough without psionic powers.. can get them here.
I don't think the Xenomorphs are actually required when you take into account something else that ADVENT has in large quantities: Chrysalids.
I mean if you actually think about it, Compared to Chrysalids, Xenomorphs are arguably the less dangerous prey. Sure they don't have acid blood, but they are still venomous bastards, and are durable enough to need at least two or three bursts of automatic fire to take down with the game's conventional assault rifles, and on top of that, when they implant someone, that person is left shambling around as a mindless zombie before having a new Chrysalid burst out of them in a matter of minutes. Even the Xenomorphs take a few hours for a facehugger to implant someone, and after that the Chestburster still takes a while after it eats it's way out of someone before it's large enough to be a major threat. Chrysalids meanwhile do all of that in just a matter of minutes, possibly even seconds,* after which the new Chrysalid is already fully grown and ready to do the same to anyone in sight!
All in all, if you're hunting them in an area where there's other things for them to implant like animals or human civilians, then then can quite easily end up overwhelming an inexperienced Predator via numbers in a way that even the Xenomorphs could only dream of. They're definitely a worthy prey for any prospective Predator, and that's before we get into how Predator 2 clearly shows that they're not above going hunting in a dystopian cityscape like what ADVENT has turned much of the planet into...
* In game it's usually within 3-4 turns, which is probably anywhere from 45 seconds to two minutes in real time going off of the sort of things your soldiers can do in that time

Theres one massive element to the Xenomorphs you are completely ignoring and why it makes them really dangerous, especially potentially in this quest.. They take traits from their hosts.
One Predator getting infected results in a Predalien, which is a massive pain to take down.. But in XCOM. potentially for something even more in this quest. Think about what would happen if a Facehugger infects a Sectoid.. what are the odds the psionic powers get derived into a Xenomorph..
That's the nightmare scenario.. Xenmorph capable of controlling minds, inciting panic and potentially reviving its dead..
So, while Chryssalids are obvious a more immediate danger.. give a Xenomorph time, and they can eclipse them..
As it stands, with twelve votes we are currently tied. I'm only tallying the vote so you all may see where we are. I won't be closing the vote anytime soon.
