Wolf Spider (Worm) (Complete)

I told GGG, who was looking and helping plan the very important fight scene, "Nobody will even notice or care if it's decent, they'll be too busy mooning over the last two lines, but they *will* notice if it sucks." :V

The fight scene is setting up the fic plot (What can the Merchants new tinker do? How did the E88 find out about it so fast, and why do they care enough to mobilize most of their lineup at once?). But the last scene is setting up the next arc plot, so it is a bit more immediate.

Also it's adorable.

Shades of Shepard. "We'll bang, ok?"
I'm having troubles visualising Rachel though, anyone remember where there's a good description of this version of her? In this case, it's not so bad not knowing (it's more about who the person if is, not what they look like), but it's nice to have one.

Well, IIRC in canon Rachel is butch and muscular, with short blonde hair. Wears heavy jackets with hoods or fur ruffs. Not really finding any good pics of her- Most pictures I've seen tend to exaggerate her features to the point where she's taller and more ripped than Grue.

Yeah, that was what I found as well. Author's description would be preferable, especially if it's from this story.

Description(s) from the first chapter basically matches up (EDIT- Although the second does have her hair as brownish, which I didn't think was the case):
I couldn't actually make out a lot about him. He was not quite as tall as me, but at least not below average, with the sort of blocky frame I associated with pretty impressive athletes. At least, I think that's what he looked like, because he was wearing a dark brown jacket with a hood, and a fur collar around the hood that looked a little odd. As did their features behind the hood. Or lack thereof.

It looked like the side of an animal. No, a dog, I thought, as I had a few flies head his way. He was wearing a dog mask?
She was looking at me, her eyes dark and a little bit big for her face, which was square and blunt, with a strong jaw. Her lips were shut, not smiling or anything, and she had a nose that looked like it had seen its share of fights. The brows above her eyes were thick and dark, and red-brown hair cut very short, though with at least a little care.

My impression of her was right. She was big and thick, though not at all fat.

I will be the token voice against them being in a sexual relationship. I like the relationship they had in canon and, like the one Taylor had with Lisa, I think making it sexual cheapens it.

That being said, if Rachel was into girls in canon I think this is exactly how she would go about it. You write her very well.

Heresy.

Anyway, I'm enjoying this so far. Hope nothing terrible happens in the future.

Did the merchsnts make a temporary cape drug?

I'm of a contrary opinion. Sexual desire neither cheapens nor suddenly somehow makes 'better' a relationship.

It just is. Or isn't.

I'd only known her a week, and so I tried to give a mental shrug and even smiled back for a second, before stopping myself.
Generally feels a little unpolished, compared to your other stuff, but still pretty good.

Taylor is very aware here. Not sure if it's intentional.

Also, Taylor is allowed to like Rachel without having the hots for her, jeez. :V Or recognize Lisa as attractive without being attracted to her.

Not that I have anything against bi or bi-ish Taylor (though I do have things against Wildbow's alleged reason for not having lesbian Taylor?), but you shouldn't feel obligated to turn every relationship into a sexual one, y'know?
And then she spoke, casually, matter-of-fact even.

"Wanna fuck?"

What.
Oh.

Nevermind then. Never change, Rachel. Never change.

It is true that a lot of the fic was the lead up to those lines. I've been thinking about the pairing for a while, though of course there's an actual non-romance plot buried in here somewhere, too.

And it's not like I do so? I mean, in Skitter Studies, the Taylor-Emma relationship is entirely nonsexual.

Look, this is specifically bisexual AU Taylor. There was an approx. 0 percent chance Tay wasn't going to be gay for Rachel in this one. Especially with the lingering descriptions of Rachel's sweat glistening brow and rippling muscles that are all over this story.

Speaking of which it is interesting to see a girl being sexualized in a similar way to how Brian was during the few canon bits describing Taylor's crush on him.

As to WildBow's reason behind keeping Taylor straight, I think he has a point. At least about the inferred titillation thing. Also given how shite he is at writing romance I'm glad that he didn't try. If he had it probably would have gotten in the way of the canon Taylor-Rachel, Taylor-Lisa relationships, both of which I am very fond of.

Hey Taylor and Emma's relationship in Covenant is non-sexual too...

Poor Emma... :V

Taylor is honestly very physical in some ways as far as her crushes go. Which isn't surprising, really, but is something I was trying to get at, sorta? Like, her crushes (or the one crush we see in canon) aren't "He has a great personality and he's so funny... oh, and he's also cute." It's, "Oh my god he's hot."

Yes, but i was a bit worried about the Mods showing up...
Acknowledging that those underage have a sexuality is not against rule 6. Child pornography, yes, 15 year old going 'I'd hit that', as long as it's tasteful and blah, no.

(Rule 6 is the one I was least clear on and once had reason to ask exactly what it covers.)

Just my knee-jerk dislike of most shipping in general. Which is forcing something sexual into a relationship that it wouldn't work in.

This however is well written and I want to read more.

Yes ever fact. It means that Rachel's attitude is one that can and will always be blunt and to the point. Taylors helpfulness gave Rachel someone who looks at her level. Not above her like Undersiders, and not below her like her dogs. Just someone she connects with on a personal level.

And not because I messed up typing again.

Rachel does have such a direct way of dealing with things doesn't she.

Meanwhile Taylor is getting a rep for 'pragmatic hero' ... at least I'm hoping the PRT are classing her as 'pragmatic hero' rather than 'fake hero'.

I do not know exactly how Taylor will react to this. I'm hoping this isn't the 'and everything went wrong' moment though.
