Wicked, based on the Musical

It's based on the musical, not the novels, and it's going to be a musical even though they continue the stupid trend of not mentioning in the trailer for a musical that it's a musical. The musical is based on the first novel, but makes a lot of changes throughout to both make for a less depressing narrative (for example, Elphaba not dying in the end) and to fit into the running time without leaving a ton of rough edges.

There's been several animated bits on youtube... and yeah, in some ways I think a animated might be better

Wicked musical the movie might be a thing I'm interested if the music is good enough like the fan-animatics.
But it is unfortunate that it is life action.

Box Office: ‘Wicked’ Overtakes ‘Mamma Mia’ as Biggest Global Broadway Adaptation, ‘Sonic 3’ Sets Franchise Record With $74 Million International Debut

Universal's "Wicked" is officially the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation in global box office history, overtaking 2008's "Mamma Mia."
"Wicked" has generated $634 million worldwide after six weeks of release while "Mamma Mia" amassed $611 million (not adjusted for inflation) by the end of its box office run. "Wicked," starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, has earned $424 million domestically and, weeks ago, surpassed 1978's "Grease" ($188.62 million) as the biggest Broadway adaptation at the domestic box office. ... This record is also notable because it bucks the recent trend of unsuccessful stage-to-screen remakes, including 2023's "The Color Purple" and 2021's "West Side Story," "Dear Evan Hansen" and "In the Heights."
