Two things, one: I think Phalanx plotted Mareia's assassination, the poison came from Canterbury, the pieces led to learning of Phalanx's 'lady of the lake' charade, and that her agents have incited wars in the past (aquilia). And two: I'm pretty excited for the Equestria interlude after the war with Pegacles so we can have a nice and calm break with the nice faction. Plus, we should probably warn Celestia and Luna about the Yetis stockpiling orichalcum, and its anti-magic properties, because we know as fans of MLP that Equestria can be trusted out of everyone.

Equestria's trustworthiness varies by variant

For example there are some versions where the sisters when they were younger were much more expansionistic (I remember one where Celestia was a bit of a hothead with a massive ego and Luna was basically warrior princess who was eager for glory in combat), Some where they are speciests and look down on other races before they realized they were powerful in their own right and got to see them as more than "Not Ponies", and more

How friendly they are depends heavily on variant (and I SERIOUSLY doubt they are exactly the same as they were in the show save early luna. Celestia had a long time to learn and mature after all)

Celestia? Mature?
Are we talking about the same troll that happily introduces canon Discord into a party with the expectation of untargeted mayhem?
Think about it this way....

We may be dealing with celestia before she got a hang of things like tact, timing, situation appropriate pranks, valid targets,, reasonable scale, and how to not take a joke to far

Trollestia may be a variant here but if we get her in a "wild child" phase it could go very badly

Let's just hope that our diplomats make a good impression to the sisters, and perhaps get any maps or information on what other creatures/nations they met as well.

well, we still haven't rolled for Equestria's status (or at least we didn't see the roll result), but from the explorers' words it seems like, at the very least, the worst scenarios are not on the table.

Unless she was lying of course, which is ALWAYS a possibility. Or maybe she simply doesn't know about potential "darkness" in her country.

I think it would be wise not to assume the worst until we actually got confirmation. I mean, if we jump straight to "something's rotten in Denmark" we could make a poor choice in regards to them.

Even in the worst case scenario we'll still make a good impression on the Equestrians. Our first contact is us rescuing their explorers who might be regarded as celebrities since they are Equestria's first attempt at exploration.

As for the Yeti issue, I don't think we'll be able to colonize Storm country without overextending ourselves. We'll have our hands full rebuilding and integrating the nation we just invaded. I'd rather help the yaks colonize it in return for plunder (the yetis were all carrying small peices of Orichalcum so we know they must have more we can loot) and a better trade deal (if the yaks have more mountains they can mine Orichalcum from then they can afford to sell it to us cheaper). This would greatly improve relations especially if we present the idea as us aiding them against the yetis the way they aided us against Sombra. It would also mean that the yaks would shoulder the burden of developing yeti lands while we're spending our resources fixing Maretonia.

Just caught up on this quest after a long while of leaving it on the backburner due to other stuff, and I gotta say, fantastic job @Questor. The sense of consistency, steady progress in the slowly revealed world and new revelations of threats and opportunities, and slow revamp of available options over time has made reading this a joy. I'd call it one of the better quests on the site.

Also, you're way better at individual characterization than you give yourself credit for.

Not sure who was adding tropes to this story's page, but here's some more.

Bullying a Dragon - Brochard, Sombra, and Pegicles have all launched attacks upon Garrick's subjects and/or allies, prompting swift and brutal retaliation by his forces
The Chains of Commanding - Garrick hates losing the Empire's citizens during times of war, but to protect the Empire as a whole he never hesitates to deploy the army when it proves necessary
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain! - The Empire is finally able to declare war on House Storm due to Pegicles killing Marecinas, who had previously worked out a deal that the Empire would stay out of the fighting in Maretonia
Reality Ensues - House White Star's army largely depended on paid mercenaries. Libertalia's raids on their treasury causes them to desert since there was no money left to pay them with
War Memorial - A grand structure is erected that honors the sacrifices of all those who died in the Empire's defense, including their allies
We Have Become Complacent - Averted for the Griffon Empire under Garrick Golden-Feather. Technology is constantly researched for improvements, food and medical care is maintained diligently, Imperial Intelligence remains vigilant, and threats are promptly dealt with

Any guesses how long this war will take? We know the enemy is extremely mobile compared to most foes, especially regarding their capital city doubling as a mobile aerial fortress.

Hi, I've been taking care of the tropes page (you fuckers better appreciate me lol), these are good additions but I feel Bullying a Dragon doesn't fit too well. Brochard was at least on par with us in terms of military power, Sombra had a pretty decent chance of taking us on even when we had allies fighting with us, and as someone pointed out Pegicles was fighting his own countrymen. Overall it doesn't fit in with a trope about someone messing with someone else that they really shouldn't.

I've been adding a few things in there, too. Albeit much less than you, surely.
