Omake: A Call to Arms (Canon)
A Call to Arms

You are King Garrick Golden-Feather of Griffornia and you are worried. You stand in the nursery looking upon your sleeping infant son. So sweet and innocent with not a care in the world. He has no idea that war is once again upon the lands of the Griffins. You walk out heading to the council chambers. This time it is no raid by bandits or brigands. No rampage by the monsters that lurk in the mountains and forests of the realms. No crazed abominations of a unfathomable god. This time it is the bloated EGO of Cyril Brochard that will spill the blood of your people. That mad griffin is too prideful to see the ruin he shall bring to all. You have no illusion that you are some great King that can solve all the problems of the former Empire. But, at least you have tried to peacefully coexist with your neighbors with trade and limited protection.

That blasted egotist refuses to see any future for Griffin kind that doesn't have him in supreme control. He is so power hungry he has acquired the worst sort of scum to fight for him. Well we shall see just how that goes for him. Cyril for you shall not refer to that man as a King or by his once honored surname believes you to be unprepared to wage war due to your merchant background. What a fool he is because as the saying goes "novices study tactics, appertices study strategy, but masters study logistics" and no one knows logistics like a genius merchant. Your mind has always been your strongest weapon, and so you turn it to organizing and preparing your forces for war.

You have already begun the expansion of your Armies. The training will be left up to the sargents as is their duty. You shall optimize the feeding, housing and equipping of both these new recruits, as well as your current standing forces. You keep track of where all the raw materials are being mined and gathered. Ensuring that enough of it is sent to each processing center in sufficient amounts to reach optimal production. Without leaving materials just laying around waiting to be processed. Such actions to cut waste has already increased the amount of equipment created and the speed at which it is forged. Your army may not end up looking as flamboyant as some of the other forces in the former Empire, but they shall be just as, if not more deadly than any other force.

You reviewed the process used to raise new troops and found one major flaw. The recruits for the Royal army all come to the Capital to train. When you questioned Gustav he simply replied that is how it had always been done. He did mention he had some ideas on the matter though. It would seem that great mind do in fact think alike. You both work to organize the sargents to be sent to different areas of the kingdom so that they can train the local there instead of wasting time traveling that could be used for training. This new system of local training camps allows the army to be ready faster and for a more comprehensive training regiments to be utilized. You work with for paymasters and quartermasters to ensure enough funds are available and that some do not go "missing" into the pocket of some official.

You also spend some time with both Claus and Elva. With Claus there is much talk about the work being on the fungus farms. He tells you that while some of the workers and farmers find it strange most are happy that we will have more sources of food. There was talk amongst them about possible alcoholic beverages that might be possible, and you remember the suggestion from last year. It is something you decide to table until after the war. Alcohol is nice but it is a distraction at the moment. Your talk with Elva is short and to the point. You both decide that sending word to Duke Talonuelli about your forces coming to his aid is paramount to winning the war. You find the fastest messenger Griffon in the Capital. You order this messager to make a haste to the Wingbardy Duke. You watch as the message leaves and hope it reaches the Duke in time and that he can hold out long enough.

You next find Archimedes to discuss the projects he is working on. Being a fellow genius you are one of the few people that can keep up with his explanations even if you lack the required knowledge to fully grasp the notions. You start with the less unsavory of the two projects the fish farms. You get a overview of how things are progressing on this front. Apparently they have been able to find the best way to keep several of the fishes alive and growing. While there is still some that are having the kinks worked out for the most part all are expected to be producing substantial amounts of food by year's end. Next it is time to talk about the more important if somewhat unseemly project. The Fire Powder has the potential to change warfare. You can see it, but that is farther down the line after more refinement. All the mines are almost finished and Archimedes has taught plenty of his "students" the proper portions of ingredients needed to produce the powder. While you will have a stockpile ready by the time the war begins you have no method to use it in the war yet. That will have to wait till next year. You talk to Archimedes about some things Gustav mentions as needing and Archimedes says he has some ideas on how the powder can help. You thank Archimedes for his time and move on to your last advisor.

Lord Ravenburg is still in a very good mood. He confided in you that he was certain he had sent his best operatives to die when they went to Aquileian lands. He is almost surprised and extremely grateful that his training worked so well. Now that they are in place he tells you that they may be able to rouse the discontent to action if we can defeat Cyril's army in Wingbardy. This will take careful maneuvering and not an insubstantial amount of coin, but he is confident his operatives can get it done. With that all that remains is to address the people.

You walk to your wife. She truly is beautiful even if she can still break you in half. You are truly blessed to have married her it would be very difficult to deal with this war without her by your side. The two of you don your armor and crowns and head out to the balcony to address the gathered populace. You look out to your people because that is who they are. It might have taken five years, a warrior wife, and a newborn son to fully accept your place as the King but you will be the best King you can be. You nod to your wife and step forward "People of Griffonia! I come before you today to inform you about the actions of a lunatic. I speak not of a reborn Discord may he rot in whatever hell he resides in now, but of Cyril Brochard. This mad Griffon has chosen to break the peace that has reigned for over five years. He has chosen to spill the blood of our kin instead of being denied his selfish delusion of being Emperor. Even now his army of bandits, brigands, pirates, rapist, and murderers are ravaging the Lands of Wingbrady. These monsters are being given free reign to do as they please with a guarantee of pardon for their actions. So I ask you my people will we allow such transgression go unanswered!" Your people scream out "NO!" Will we sit back while our neighbors stands alone against such horrors!" Once more your people answer "NO!" "Should we let a lunatic dictate how the Empire should rise again!" And with greater fervor they respond "NO!" "I ask you my people will you follow me to save our kin, our neighbors, to stop this raving lunatic, and his monsters!" With a fever pitch the masses scream "YES!" "Then I declare war against the invader of Wingbrady and their tyrant leader! FOR GRIFFORNIA, FOR WINGBRADY, AND FOR ALL OF GRIFFON KIND, TO WAR!" The people are swept up in the moment with cries of "GRIFFORNIA!" and a few of "WINGBARDY!" as well as a lot of "GARRICK!" and "GOLDEN-FEATHER!"

You step back inside to allow your people to prepare on their own. With the army set to march at the end of the year there is still much work to be done. But, for now you have the backing of your people. You pray you can keep it and that the war can be ended without a total loss.

@Questor here is an Omake for you. It is Garrick doing what he can to get ready then a rally to get his people in the right mindset.

i was looking at the turn options when i realized something. Won't the fungus farming action have a greater effect on the Diamond Dogs then on griffins? it would child's play to have tapped out mineshafts and spare rooms in Dog settlements given over to mushroom farming.

on top of that Mushroom booze and oil can be used for lamps which will make those farms even more profitable.

Yes they are something the Diamond dogs profit from by a lot. The booze might have to wait until after the war though.

Awesome! +20 to a future roll of your choice!

Turn results will come tomorrow. Please let me know exactly what actions you'd like your Omake bonuses to apply to, or if you want to just hold onto them for use in the battle rolls.

Not a lot of substance, like I said but here you go. roughly 400 Words

Eyes up Guardians
Was it worth it? You ask yourself.

You are Ashe current, and by the state of things the last guild master of the Gilded Guardians.

You looked around at the dilapidated walls of guildhall and broken furniture strewn about. You looked at the hand full somber looking guild members drink their woes away.

It wasn't always this way.

When you close your eyes, you could imagine what this place was like, what it should be like. A hall full of smiles, stories, and revelry.

But then you open your eyes and return to reality.

Aquileia had offered generous amounts of gold, and a not so subtle threat, to side with them in the upcoming conflict but refused.

Many would question your choice, rejecting such an offer, they'll say you're insane and a fool.

Maybe, they're right.

You stood upon the railing calling everyone's attention.

"All of you may know that I rejected Aquileia's offer." You waited till they quieted down.

"The Gilded Guardians were once the greatest Guild in the world, but now look at what we've become."

"I ask you to remember the Battle of the Northern Ridge. When we stood mighty, when heroes lead the charge side by side the other nations!"

"But that battle took from us, more than we could give. My predecessor Titania and all the rest of the greatest generation were snuffed out in that battle."

"I grew up reading about them, engraving their names in my heart, just as I know you have as well!"

"Titania the Goddess of War."

"Fullbuster the Ice Prince."

"Dragneel the Raging Warrior."

"Falco the Northern Wind."

The Guild chanted the names of its heroes in remembrance. Those names still inspire pride and honor among the guild.

"It was they, the Gilded Guardians, Grey Warden, and Knights Lions that represented what the Beacon of the Northern Mountain was about."

"Honor, Glory, and Heroism."

"But those flankholes, Aquileia try to coerce us to siding with them, when it was, they who abandoned the battlefield? When it was, they who cause the demise of our heroes?"

Angry shouts fill the guild hall.

"That's why I refused! In fact, I plan to offer my blade to Wingbardy or Griffonia for any price! At least they have honor!"

"Whatever the case I plan to give Aquileia a black eye! So, who's with me!"

Cheers of approval rang out throughout the hall.

So, I may be insane and a fool, but I'm not the only one.

"Now eyes up Guardians."

Hope you enjoyed. As always feel free to point out mistakes so i can fix them.

Also any more Omake Ideas?

@Raptor580
As for a Fatherhood Omake, I don't think I can do it justice, sorry.

Right now I'm throwing around a Knights Lion, Grey Warden, and War(For) Sworn interlude, they have even less substance than this right now.
@Questor, will this omake count? I think it would be cool if the remains of those who once fought and were betrayed by Brochard's ancestor are still around.

Just realized my Omake isn't threadmarked.

I'm thinking of making an Omake about the return of the Gray Warden, the basis premise is a young griffon taking on the mantle of the lost order to fight back against Aquileia as a symbol of hope.

Any ideas what I should incorporate?

Perhaps the Griffon is the descendent of one of the last apprentices of the Grey Wardens, and has a romanticized vision of them.

Just found this quest and it looks interesting, missed the vote but the plan I would have voted for won. Also diplo learning King over enemy martial King thanks to our leveraging our strengths better. And with that recruiting drive we will be about equal number but higher quality and have Wingbary forces as well to help tilt the odds. Would be interesting if this is a multi turn campaign.

It should be a few years of war to break the siege then push them out of the Duchy. Depending if we join the rebels in the enemy kingdom immediately or stop and recover first. That is what will determine how long we fight.

once we kick the asshole's ass he's gonna get a mass revolt if the action succeeds but we absolutely CAN NOT invade until the rebels have the upper hand and we have an invitation or else we risk the nobles of that kingdom backing king asshat in response of an external invasion.
