What happened to As Astra per Aspera?

I have first found out about AAPA about a year or two ago. Since then, I have read story it has build two times and in both cases I have fallen in love with it.

It is probably the only Mass effect/Kantai collection crossover I have enjoyed.

But the last post was made in November 2016. Since then, it appears that the author, going by the name inquisition has abandoned the story.

If that is the case, I'm not angry, nor am I going to demand that he uploads a new part. He has stated before that he is doing something he loves IRL. But I still want to know if I'm waiting for something that will never come back.

The truth of the matter is we don't quite know. Inquisition has started other quests after AApA, and he does still update one of them. Officially, according to his profile signature, AApA is on indefinite hiatus.

Yeah, Its funny how time works. we all have various interests, and yet, those too transmogrify and change as time moves on. Certainly there are stories we would love drawn out to an absolute conclusion, or continued to that end; and yet while we as reader's or participants may not be done with the fascination of a story. The Author may lose cohesion and interest for whatever story being written, its not really their fault for loss of muse either, but rather it is a simple fact that we all change over time, and things that we once enjoyed doing one day, we suddenly find ourselves with no idea of how to progress a story or plot forward.

I myself have a Mass Effect story I'd like to see the author put more of his time into. Incompatible System is certainly a favorite of mine and I hope the author is working on pushing the next chapter out, but that's up to him in the end.

There are so many stories that remain unfinished for one reason or another, mostly attributed to the reasons I stated above. Yet along the way of a story's formation are many different aspects that one cannot really account for at the start, and in some respects, it is these things that are thrown in along the way that tend to cause writers some form of paralysis and eventual degradation of interest in pursuing the story to the logical end originally envisioned.

One thing you could do, is copy the story posts to a rtf file or something to archive that story for your own personal use, that way, you can remember without the shock of discovering that one day, said story disappears.

Was on a forum once, and the site closed down for funding temporarily, I moved on as I think most others did and never returned. Said site is back now, but different with some of the people.

Just thought I'd offer my thoughts here.

So I only just located this thread and I wanted to comment, even if it's been a couple months.

First - thank you very much, I'm very glad that you enjoyed my story and it makes me feel immeasurably pleased that someone got enjoyment out of my work. It's unquestionably the work I'm most proud of, for the simple reason that it got so many people engaged in the story, to the point where a couple of people collaborated with me on a *50 page omake* for its backstory, something that still blows my mind to this day. In many ways, AAPA was defined just as much (if not more) by player participation as by my own writing, and I love the results that came of it.

Second - By way of some simple explanation, AAPA was made in a very different time in my life, and in many ways acted as something of an outlet for a lonely college student with few RL friends and little to do other than write. It ended mostly because I managed to find my niche in achool, and with other things in my life distracting me it's become harder to just find the time to sit and write.

Third - Though I'd say my returning to "finish" the story is unlikely, it'd be too far to say it's impossible. I've lomg aonce moved on to other projects, though none have come close to the success of AAPA since, and as such my writing style, writing habits, and availability have changed - whereas I had a lot of time in my hands in college, I now work an office 9 to 5 and have relatively little time for myself. Returning to AAPA has crossed my mind many times, but I don't want to get any hopes up - I'm not sure I'd even be able to keep up with a reasonable update schedule. But hey, who knows - "never say never" is an expression for a reason!

Again - thank you so much for your wonderful comment, and I hope reading it gave you as much joy as writing it did for me. :)
