It is the year 3050, and the galaxy is at war.
To the north, the seemingly unbeatable descendants of the once-noble Star League Defence Force carve their way through both the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine; the genetically-engineered warriors are destroying everyone and everything on their quest for Earth. To the south, the Capellan Confederation eyes its neighbours with wary, greedy eyes; the once-lost technologies of the Star League now held in the hands of its greatest enemy both a threat and a temptation that it cannot ignore. To the east, the Federated Suns and its canny leader Hanse Davion look with worry to the steadily advancing Clans; the knowledge that their long-time enemy, the Draconis Combine, is suffering under their relentless assault doing little to salve their fears. To the west, the Free Worlds League grows fat and wealthy off of the desperation of their neighbours —the fractious state selling weaponry by the jumpship-load to all who face the Clans.
And in the centre of it, thinking of the money and glory that can be made, is Sufficient Velocity.
What is MekHQ, and the hell is an AtB?
MekHQ is a lovely, open-source program designed to let people manage their games of Battletech while also offering the ability to play 'Against the Bot' campaigns using MegaMek —another free and open source program. 'Against the Bot' campaigns (or AtB) is mostly just a set of scenario and opposing force generators that allow people to play entire games against an AI.
There are a vast number of tweakable rules and scenarios, but for this LP we'll be playing as a mercenary company in the year 3050 —the same year the Clans invade the Inner Sphere.
Here's a map, nerds!
How do we get involved?
Well, anyone who wants to be a Mechwarrior has to ask to join the Mechwarrior list. The list is first-come-first-served, so get in early if you want to be featured. I'll do my best to get whatever vehicle, aerospace craft, or mech you request, but I can't promise anything.
Now, because we need to fill out the roster before we can get started, the next eight people to join will be able to pick their mechs to represent SV using its vast (and secret) fortune to outfit its newly formed mercenary company. You can choose any variant of battlemech so long as it's available in 3050, non-unique, has no clan-tech, and fits into the roster described below.
For the sake of balance, I'm going to limit the starting force to, 6 Mediums, and 2 Lights. (Technically, you also get two assaults and two heavies, but I mentioned this game to people on discord, and they already picked stuff. ).
Speaking of mechs...
I'll usually be the one controlling the battlemechs as I'd prefer to do one battle per update and not have to pause halfway through to call for a vote. I'm not particularly good at MekHQ just yet, so any advice you have to offer RE: Battletech or MekHQ will be greatly appreciated. The same also goes if you have a particular loadout you'd like me to use for your mech as hey, you're the MechWarrior.
Remaining Mechs:
5 Mediums, and 1 Lights

The First Vote:
So, where should we start, people? The Clans have arrived and are busy ploughing their way through the forces of both the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine, the Capellans are secretly skirmishing with the Federated Suns, and pirates are plaguing the periphery. Where we start affects both the contracts we receive, and the availability of the meat and metal on the market, so think carefully!
Voting is open for:
[] Solaris VII - The Gaming World
[] Tharkad - Capital of the Lyran Commonwealth
[] Sian - Capital of the Capellan Confederation
[] Luthien - Capital of the Draconis Combine
[] New Avalon - Capital of the Federated Suns
[] Atreus - Capital of the Free Worlds League
[] Write-in [where?]
