It is the year 3050, and the galaxy is at war.

To the north, the seemingly unbeatable descendants of the once-noble Star League Defence Force carve their way through both the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine; the genetically-engineered warriors are destroying everyone and everything on their quest for Earth. To the south, the Capellan Confederation eyes its neighbours with wary, greedy eyes; the once-lost technologies of the Star League now held in the hands of its greatest enemy both a threat and a temptation that it cannot ignore. To the east, the Federated Suns and its canny leader Hanse Davion look with worry to the steadily advancing Clans; the knowledge that their long-time enemy, the Draconis Combine, is suffering under their relentless assault doing little to salve their fears. To the west, the Free Worlds League grows fat and wealthy off of the desperation of their neighbours —the fractious state selling weaponry by the jumpship-load to all who face the Clans.

And in the centre of it, thinking of the money and glory that can be made, is Sufficient Velocity.

What is MekHQ, and the hell is an AtB?
MekHQ is a lovely, open-source program designed to let people manage their games of Battletech while also offering the ability to play 'Against the Bot' campaigns using MegaMek —another free and open source program. 'Against the Bot' campaigns (or AtB) is mostly just a set of scenario and opposing force generators that allow people to play entire games against an AI.

There are a vast number of tweakable rules and scenarios, but for this LP we'll be playing as a mercenary company in the year 3050 —the same year the Clans invade the Inner Sphere.

Here's a map, nerds!

How do we get involved?
Well, anyone who wants to be a Mechwarrior has to ask to join the Mechwarrior list. The list is first-come-first-served, so get in early if you want to be featured. I'll do my best to get whatever vehicle, aerospace craft, or mech you request, but I can't promise anything.

Now, because we need to fill out the roster before we can get started, the next eight people to join will be able to pick their mechs to represent SV using its vast (and secret) fortune to outfit its newly formed mercenary company. You can choose any variant of battlemech so long as it's available in 3050, non-unique, has no clan-tech, and fits into the roster described below.

For the sake of balance, I'm going to limit the starting force to, 6 Mediums, and 2 Lights. (Technically, you also get two assaults and two heavies, but I mentioned this game to people on discord, and they already picked stuff. :V).

Speaking of mechs...

I'll usually be the one controlling the battlemechs as I'd prefer to do one battle per update and not have to pause halfway through to call for a vote. I'm not particularly good at MekHQ just yet, so any advice you have to offer RE: Battletech or MekHQ will be greatly appreciated. The same also goes if you have a particular loadout you'd like me to use for your mech as hey, you're the MechWarrior.

Remaining Mechs:
5 Mediums, and 1 Lights

=======================
The First Vote:
So, where should we start, people? The Clans have arrived and are busy ploughing their way through the forces of both the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine, the Capellans are secretly skirmishing with the Federated Suns, and pirates are plaguing the periphery. Where we start affects both the contracts we receive, and the availability of the meat and metal on the market, so think carefully!

Voting is open for:
[] Solaris VII - The Gaming World
[] Tharkad - Capital of the Lyran Commonwealth
[] Sian - Capital of the Capellan Confederation
[] Luthien - Capital of the Draconis Combine
[] New Avalon - Capital of the Federated Suns
[] Atreus - Capital of the Free Worlds League
[] Write-in [where?]

Interesting, hmmmm, I would like to join with a Phoenix Hawk PXH-3M.

Let's see how fast I die!

Glad to have you!

To everyone else: I'll post the profiles of the next 6 people after I get back from work tomorrow.

I want in - but can we use canon 3050 variants and Star League-era gear, or are we using 3025 stuff, since mercs might not have access to the latest stuff rolling off the Great Houses' production lines?

Bushwacker's too rare at this time (probably nonexistent even) so i guess I'll be happy with a stock Centurion. Write me up as you see fit.

Say, by non-unique does that also mean non-extinct units or are extinct 'Mechs OK?

I'm in! Can I have a light please, if any are still available.

EDIT: Don't really mind mech, but would prefer something like a locust or equally non-humanoid

So nothing the Star League used that the Successor States can build again after regaining tech in the years before the Clan Invasion?
Honestly, it's just easier that way, yeah.

Sure, I'll earmark a Locust for you.

Hm, would a Talos be considered Extinct? I know, it's obsolete, but I like how it looks. If it can be used, I'd like the SRM and AC/10 replaced with Lasers if possible.

Though a Swordsman, SWD-2 variant to be exact, would be acceptable if the Talos can't be used.

Edit: Oh, um, seems the Swordsman stopped being used when the Star League Civil War happened. Wonder if there is even any left.

It seems to me that being near the guys selling everything to everyone would be a fine opportunity to aquire extra stuff.

Since I'm not too familiar with the setting, could I get the heaviest mech that still counts as medium?

[X] New Avalon - Capital of the Federated Suns

I'll throw my hat in the ring. No heavies left? Aw. Rifleman is best... hm.

I'll do my best to get whatever vehicle, aerospace craft, or mech you request, but I can't promise anything.
When you say aerospace, d'you mean fighters, or VTOLs? (I assume VTOLs, but can't hurt to ask, ey?)

If we're allowed things other than 'Mechs (heresy, I know :V) I'mma request a Warrior H-7, because lol AC-2

You might want a Jenner instead of a Locust - bit slower, and not that much more armour, but just as non-humanoid as a Locust and a lot more firepower. Jump jets, too, which the Locust is sadly without.

I do believe I´ll have myself a Hunchback. Also
[X] Tharkad - Capital of the Lyran Commonwealth
Guess who´ll be desperate for anyone they can throw into the grinder right about now? The Lyrans. Gonna get brutal but the credits are good -as is the potential salvage.

I'll ride a Wolverine-7M, please.

[X] Tharkad - Capital of the Lyran Commonwealth
I agree with Radek - the Lyrans are going to be clawing for any forces they can get against the Clans, and while their funds are technically limited, at the moment mercs are going to be in a very strong negotiating position for cash and salvage, simply because the Lyrans need warm bodies so badly. They're a rich nation in a sudden Total War who need time to cycle up the industry. And while the Combine is in a similar position, they both have a lot less money and are much less nice to mercs.

If, and only if we're allowed to modify our rides in small ways, I'd like to ditch the Right Torso Medium Pulse Laser for CASE on the Left Torso, another Double Heat Sink shoved in the Right Arm, and an extra half-ton of armour. If we're not allowed to do that, I guess I'll live with riding the heat curve and carefully not thinking about the torso bomb.

Also, if possible, my pilot will always be carrying Inferno rounds for the SRM rack - goddamn Elementals will burn, and it's good for limiting Clanner mech offense, too.

@prometheus110 can we listed to the smart one here and give me a better mech pls?
I recommend either the Jenner-7F or the -7K. The F strips out the SRM4 and its ammo for three tons of extra armour - a lot more survivable (for a light mech), carrying as much armour as some Mediums, but some pilots find it lacking in firepower. On the other hand, the K has ever-so-slightly less armour coverage than the standard -7D by getting a superior armour mix but shaving off half a ton of it compared to the 7D's four tons (net result: 62 points of armour instead of 64), but makes up for it by making that ton of SRM ammo you're carrying not be a bomb just waiting for the first armour-penetrating hit to blow your entire mech apart. In either variant, always try and get behind the other guy, because the other guy is bigger and nastier, but you've got a pretty good sting yourself, and there's only so much armour that can go on the rear. Get in, pour it all on at their rear, get out - Jump Jets are very useful here. Personally, I much prefer the F, but it's up to you.
