You awoke to feel a blistering headache in the back of your head. Your mind was foggy, the memories of the past, distant and muted by what you could only assume was drugs that were injected into your system. The throbbing pain was quickly replaced by confusion and feeling the white blanket of ice and water beneath you.

You were wearing a sweatshirt, long-sleeved shirt, a beanie, and sweatpants.

And boots without any socks… Well, that was going to be a problem.

Snow. Your breath condensed into mist as you breathed in and out, forcing your way onto your feet and looking around the area.

The Pine trees that were covered in snow were the first clue that you were not in the region where your base was. Then there were the mountains that were towering above your vision, which confirmed it.

Well shit… you were in the wilderness, in god knows where, drugged, disoriented, and without any backup.

Normally in these situations, you would try and find yourself some shelter, but considering the drugs that you could feel in your system, and the unknown area, and dangers that lurked in it… You would have to move and link up with allies or gather some intel.

Gathering intel: 1D100 => 95

You looked around and saw a few berries, imported blackberries that were brought in to diversify the planet's ecosystem when the first settlers arrived, kept in large enclosures and nature preserves so that they would not spread to the rest of the planet and wreak havoc to the ecosystem if it caused any negative effects.

So you were pretty sure you were in a preserve of some kind, that was allowed to grow these plants…

That also meant that you were under surveillance. Rushing to a tree, you looked at it, before climbing the branches. If there was a camera, and a cheap civilian camera at that, it would have a screen where you could view who put you down.

The Camera:1D100 => 73

You saw the camera hiding inside the canopy of the pine. It was a camera for monitoring the wildlife of the preserve, or to make sure there were not any poachers that came in to hunt.

You didn't really see the point in breaking into a preserve to hunt, especially when there were other, more dangerous and plentiful prey to hunt from. Moa was plentiful in forested regions, and Gutra still posed a threat to many communities within the mountains.

You disconnected the camera and opened the screen to see the playback. There was a fog blurring up the camera's view, but you could see three figures. Two adults and yourself. The adults looked frustrated and cold as they set you down, and injected you with something.

But it seems that you were still conscious, as you swung wildly at them.

You knocked something out of one of their hands, and they must have not noticed, as they walked away.

You reconnected the camera and put it back where you found it, and jumped down the tree, landing in a very soft pile of snow at the bottom.

There were two options for what happened. Mendez was doing a training exercise and decided to spread everyone out in a nature preserve, the most likely situation because Mendez would torture you by not giving you any socks.

The other, less likely, but not impossible situation, was the insurrection thought you were dependent on the base, and kidnapped you, were transporting you to their hideout for ransom, but lost track of you because you were too wild.

Both were likely, though, you had to give it to Mendez for being sadistic if he did plan this.

But you would need to look at them… oh hello.

It was an M6D pistol, with a full magazine, and an extra round in the chamber.

Why it wasn't picked up by your kidnappers after you knocked it out of their hands was beyond you… but that didn't matter.

You needed to get moving. Pocketing a few berries for a snack, you needed to choose your direction.
