We Persevere

The date is October 23, 2020, and the world has ended.

No one knows the why, only that it did.

The first indications that something was wrong to the public were when the sirens, unused ever since they were first erected, initially coughed before, slowly, their voice and pitch increased.

Of course by then, it was too late to get into any of the neglected and forgotten shelters.

Millions perished in an instant as nuclear fireballs detonate, and by the end of the week billions lie dead whether due to the radioactive fallout or the unbridled chaos that followed soon after.

But many still lived. Whether by ingenuity, paranoid preparation, or by just sheer luck these people have somehow survived. These survivors have then emerged from whatever safe havens that they have managed to find, only to find that the world that they have once knew have become unfamiliar and hostile.

They were mostly composed of:

[ ] Engineers from a small workshop {Boost to Production and Efficiency}
[ ] Soldiers from a minor military outpost {Boost to Military}
[ ] Scientists from a small lab {Boost to Research}
[ ] Farmers from a small farm {Boost to Food Supply}
[ ] Workers from a small refinery {Boost to Resource Supply}
[ ] Merchants from a small rest stop {Boost to Trade and Diplomacy}

Seeing that the area that they are currently in was rendered uninhabitable for the immediate future, the survivors went on an Exodus. The journey was long and hard, and a not insignificant number have died. After finding that they have expended the majority of their remaining supplies the remaining survivors stopped their migration.

They have decided to settle in:
[ ] An Untouched Plain {This land has never been used nor touched. Perfect for starting with nothing.}
[ ] An Abandoned Farm community {The barns may be halfway to collapse and the farms filled with weeds, but at least the soil may be good.}
[ ] A Deserted Town {It looks like a bunch of homes that people left a long time ago. Maybe it was scheduled for demolition?}
[ ] A Prison, with tall grey concrete walls {The walls tower over you. It could be a great fortress, or a grave.}
[ ] A Ruins of a City {In the distance, outlines of buildings cut into the jagged sky.}
[ ] A Decommissioned Military Base {The plants cover the walls, and the barbed wire are almost rusted, but the military sure do build things to last.}
[ ] Write-in {Explanation and GM approval needed}

cool you finally decided to restart the post apoc game? I am in!

Now, I am unsure about Soldiers or Engineers. But I'd Recommend a defensible base. so the Prison?

I have been hammering a bunch of stuff on-off for the past year.
I am at my wit's end because the end result is always something that is overly complicated.
Which is why I will make things simple as possible and make some things up as I go.

Also, in regards to location, different things can happen.
Choose wisely.

Because Desert Rangers, that's why!

But more seriously, keep in mind that a decommissioned base will have little in the way of immediate salvage. it will have, at best, stored and mothballed equipment that will need refit time. and the same goes for the workshops.
A prison, on the other hand, offers us a decent bulwark against the outside plus it will have workshops that functioned till, well, till the inmates and guards died.

Plus for those of us playing wastelands 2 Damonta... Damonta...

As much as I love Wasteland 2, keep in mind on what a Prison would entail.

I understand what it implies, a potentially large body-count that would need cleaning to avoid the plague or an inmate population that will need be dealt with, maybe some wardens we could co-opt, turning them into our first line of defense.
EDIT: of course, I could be missing the very obvious details and that is without counting the potential curve-balls you could throw at us.

Speaking of which: how good each group is armed?

[X] Scientists
[X] An Untouched Plain

Starting from nothing except the clothes on their backs and the knowledge in their skulls the Labrats will bootstrap their way to dominance

Whatever they had in hand when the apocalypse started. With your selection, I guess a few wrenches.

[X]Engineers
[X]Prison.

If the guards and inmates died, it should have food, weapons and a library (the last one might be ruined though). It might also have land though god knows if it would be useful for production.

Actually, having engineers and a prison base synchs pretty damn well. Wait, @Uxion , what kind of prison? The massive monolithic 50's kind, or the newer, high tech kind?
